Cary Davis? (1 Viewer)

Hey this guy had a great HoF game last week and didn't get a touch this week vs. GB. Was he hurt? Looks like Gary Russell got all the click this time.

How do these two fit into the RB equation in Pittsburgh?

My thinking.......preseason, giving the RB's a chance that might not make the team, why not give on a chance one week and another rb a chance the next? Just makes sense to me, but I have been wrong before.

Davis is considered to almost be a lock at this point.

I believe he did some blocking last night, nothing more.

They what to see what others have to offer.

Lots of solid options in the Steeler backfield, but only so much room.

either russell or davis will end up being RB4 at best. the steelers have willie parker, najeh davenport and verron haynes in front of either one. i haven't even mentioned kevan barlow, yet, probably because i think he's going to be cut, but he may also be a factor.

They wanted to get a better look at Russell and also see if Davis can play FB. After a couple of the blocks he made at FB last night he's pretty much a lock to make this roster.

Haynes has nothing assured of at this point.

Davis will be likely practice squad. Cut by Indi and Miami. Not even close to a lock. In fact very much the opposite.

Russell will be RB#3. Too intriguing a talent to expose him on the practice squad. Could give Najeh a breather if FWP goes down.

Barlow and Haynes will be camp cuts.

FWP, Davenpoop, Russell, and Kreider will be the 4 RB's Pitt carries.

Agreed. Wouldn't surprise me to see the Steelers go with Parker, Krieder, Davenport, Russell and Davis. Assuming Russell can show he can pick up pass protection.

Can't see the Steelers carrying 5 RB's, none of whom can play special teams. Not with Tomlin's emphasis on that aspect of the game.Either Davis or Russell will go to the PS. Another team would snap up Russell with the showing he's had to date. Steelers know that.Davis is 26 and has been cut twice. Blocking skills aside, he's much more viable on the PS than Russell.

Have you seen Davis play? He looks to be a carbon copy of Verron Haynes, but better at FB. I think Pitt keeps FWP, Davenport, Davis, Russell at RB. Kreider for the blocking FB. Davis could get some time at FB also.

You sure about the special teams thing Thrill? I didn't see him covering kicks or punts to date. I'll admit I could have missed it.

If the guy plays FB, maybe he takes Kreider's spot, still don't see'em carrying 5.

I just don't see where both he and Russell fit in on the active roster.

He's had great pre-season's before. So while he's looked good, I'm still a doubter.

Davis had the tackle on the opening kickoff yesterday.

The thing is, in the camps leading up to the preseason Russell and Davis were kickin much ###.

Which just hasnt seemed to stop in the preseason game situations. The same cant be said for Haynes and Barlow.

Dang, you're right bro. Russell had a tackle too. I stand corrected. Thanks for the education.Maybe they will carry 5 if they both play special teams. If it comes down to a choice of Davis vs. Russell, I'd still go Russell without even blinking. Much pre-season left to base decisions off of.Haynes and Barlow are all but gone.

I think so too. Parker, Kreider, Davenport are locks. I think Russell makes the team because they'll be afraid of him getting snatched on the practice squad. Davis is probably practice squad. If they carry five on the active roster then Haynes has a shot. Haynes is coming off the knee surgery but plays special teams and is a nice 3rd down back.

Not only that, but if he can serve as Krieder's backup I doubt that they'll cut him.
