Gun to your head, if you could only pick one, which would you choose. As nostalgic and sublime as Vinyl can be I think I'd have to go with Cd's. Just seems cleaner and more pristine to me.

And You?

If I could have vinyl coupled with an old school tube receiver and a set of bangin speakers gimme that.

This is the answer. You want a tube amp and great speakers and vinyl that's been cut with a AAA (all analog) rating. Once you get a digital step in there you might as well have a CD. It's the Mobile Fidelity scandal (they were advertising AAA and got caught using digital steps). I will say that rock music, if you want it loud, will sound great with the rig and type of CD I talk about below.

In truth, though, it's very hard to discern between a great solid state amp and greatly engineered CD with a DAC and good speakers against the set-up above. Just buy good masters and engineered CDs, throw a hundred or two-hundred dollar DAC in the mix with your amp, and your music will sound great.

You can search the Steve Hoffman forums to find the best reissues or original issues of recordings to find out which ones are best. Spend some time there and you'll get the lay of the land. The people argue (just like here), but if you can wade through it you'll find good stuff.

Do I still have access to streaming on mobile/internets? If so, definitely vinyl. I still purchase records as they're a great compliment to streaming services. Haven't purchased a CD in 20+ years

I was assuming we wouldn’t.

If that's the case, CDs are the easy choice. Vinyl is not portable, can't travel with it, workout, etc.
Yeah, otherwise, I don't really care. I don't have an issue with streaming for the rest of my life.

This you?

Haha hell yeah it was…in 2002

Vinyl for me. Sounds better, more fun.

CD's are in a weird place - not as good as vinyl, not as convenient as streaming.
