Cedric Benson (1 Viewer)

Any thoughts on Cedric Benson yet I contacted the owner of A Peterson (CHI) and he wanted Kevin Curtis.

Is this too much? Is it time to start to panic on Benson yet? Do we think he'll be the "MAN" all year for Chicago or is he doomed to lose his job at some point (and how soon?).

How did he look knowing it was a tought SD Def and what is Lovie's likelyhood of making a change?

Benson's production, like the vast majority of RB's, is tied to the performance of the offensive line. The Chicago line was dominated last Sunday, and as a result, he looked bad. Peterson isn't much of a RB, excellent on special teams, but he will never be a feature RB in any system.

Have Benson in a dynasty league. made sure I grabbed Peterson as my last pick in this year's draft. Not sure what I'd be willing to give up to get him, but I know I feel a lot more comfortable with him on my roster. I don't think I'd give up Curtis, but that all depends on your roster and starting requirements. All that said, this should probably be in the AC forum.

wow... out of all the bad Game 1's this is the least troublesome.

1- He looked rusty - game 1 (grain of salt)

2- SD's D was up against the Bears who were pretty much stopping LT

3- Peterson is NOT Thomas Jones... the best you'd get is an underperforming RBBC.

you wont need peterson. benson should be fine as a #2 Rb to go with your high #1 RB. maybe hes you 3rd RB? benson might actually be someone i might target...

Fair trade, depending on your roster and league scoring. Start-3, PPR, and Curtis is your current WR3/4, not fair. Start 2 and he's your WR4 and purely a bye week filler, probably fair.

Way too early to panic.

Just a thought on Benson...He's not a great runningback, never will be. But I do believe he can have a Rudi Johnson type career.

That is all.

I drafted him as my RB#2, late round 2, just want to make sure I have him to cover that spot and get decent production out of him over the course of the whole season.

Another thing to consider is the fact that the Bears got rid of Thomas Jones, leaving them with Benson as their only reasonable RB option. If they remove Benson from the starting RB job, they're effectively admitting that they made a blunder. Management shouldn't let pride drive their decisions, but they commonly do it.

IMO, I doubt that Chicago would ever, barring an injury to Benson, just hand over the reigns to Peterson and anoint him the starter. What I would expect, if Peterson continues to outplay Benson, is Peterson to take a progressive healthier cut of the work at RB, while still splitting time and Benson still being the starter, meaning the first RB in the game.

benson isn't someone I was looking to get, but I think it's hilarious that he's already getting the virtual boot after one game vs the chargers -- that was a quick experiment.

I'll say he loses his job to injury before they pull him.

It was the Chargers. Last I checked, they are a pretty good team with a pretty good defense. And it was one week. If I didn't already own him, I would check on what it would take to acquire him.

I think LHUCKS is right: could be Rudi Johnson. I'll take that.

:hey: no I would not trade curtis for a backup the other guy doesn't even need. Especially after one week....

Benson has a nice matchup this week and for the next 4 weeks. If he has some nice games in that span, then the value of AP2 drops. I'd wait it out otherwise you're buying high on AP2.

I wouldnt want to rely on Cedric Benson as my 2nd RB. He may have more talent than Adrian Peterson but from what I've seen AP has a much better attitude, runs much harder, is liked by his teammates, and wants it more. I think that those 4 combined are enough for AP to ouperform CB in the same offense.

I don't have CB. I drafted AP for the inevitable day when CB gets dinged up and doesnt have the heart to play through it. I think AP would be a fair RB2 and I would be fine starting him on my starting RBs bye weeks.

Benson owner here. I thought he looked good most of the time I saw him last year. As far as the super bowl business with him not going back into the game sure seems to be over blown. If you are hurt and not 100% what are you supposed to do. Last week Benson like many other better proven RB's had problems against tough defenses.

With all that said I'm a little concerned. Now that he has had his manhood questioned through the national media, if he does not come out and play with heart and determination, I will be VERY concerned.

Don't panic...

SD has a great defense...

Benson will be fine...

Can't wait to see all the Benson threads bumped come the end of the year when he puts up 1500 total yards and 12 TDs

Does the rookie Wolfe fit in here at all?

I read something on the Bears site this week where they were saying they want to get Hester and Wolfe more involved. Not sure if more involved for Wolfe means a few plays a game, or some consistent reps.

Any Bears fans with thoughts or knowledge?

I agree that Ced Ben never will be great, but a Rudi-type career (averaging 1200/12 each year) would indeed be great, IMO.

:football: are you saying Rudi hasn't had a great career? If Benson can end up being a Rudi Johnson type back, they will be turning cartwheels over their great investment.

Way Way to early to panic. It's a long season Benson was a bit rusty and SD defense played an awesome game. Be patient I think he will be a solid RB2. This week against KC the Bears should be solid and C. Benson will produce solid RB2 points for you.

I watched the game (having LT & Benson) and Benson just looked somewhat tentative. I realize the Chargers have a great D and an all world Nose Tackle. It was just what i saw that worried me a bit. I want to believe that he can be a strong runner but he seemed like he'd rather avoid contact at times which is bothersome.

You're selling Rudi short. The last 3 seasons he's rushed for 1400, 1400, 1300 yards and 12 Td's each season. I know what you're saying, Benson could be a consistent straight ahead type rusher who doesn't do anything flashy compared to some of the other guys at that position and quietly does his job but Benson has a long way to go.I want to see him stay healthy and show us he can take the pounding of a 16 game season.

This match-up sets up for Benson to have a great game. If he struggles like he did against the Chargers, then I'd hit the panic button. If he does well, then it will be frustrating because you still won't know how to evaluate him and the Bears O-Line until they perform well against a good run defense.

Basically a no-win scenario...

Over 100. I needed a TD but I can't complain when my #2 RB gets 100 yards especially when my #1 guy has a 5th grader in football knowledge as a coach (LJ).
