Cedrick Benson talks heating up with Texans? (1 Viewer)

CEDRICK BENSON According to TexansTalk message board that former Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson was in the Houston area and that he was telling people that he was closest in his talks with the Texans. Fantasy Tailgate source

If he's going to get his head on straight anywhere, Texas is where he probably has the best chance. I think he's on the Charles Rogers-Matt Jones-Lawrence Phillips career trajectory, though.

The problem is that this guy has never had his head on straight and Texas is where he got into his latest trouble?

Houston probably would be the best landing spot. The Texas State Penitentiary may let him out to play on weekends....

This could simply mean that the Texans are the only ones who have returned his calls.

That occurred to me too. I don't pretend to have any insightful read upon the Benson situation. I just think there's scant chance of him emerging anywhere as a fantasy contributor.

They already have 5 RB's on their roster, no way they sign Benson.
Why not? We had 4 when we drafted Steve Slaton......why not cloud the DEN, errrr, I mean HOU backfield even more by taking on Benson? That would make a bunch of worthless RBs on one team that might equate to one legit RB when the season is finished.Ahman? He'll surprise me if he plays in 8 games.Chrissy? Runs hard........gets hurt too muchDarius? Who knows what we have in himCTaylor? Who knows what we have.....always injuredAdding Benson to the mix? :2cents:

Maybe if he was clearly better than the rest of the bunch, it might be worth taking on a head case like Benson. However, he is no better than the crap they already have. Plus, i think they took Slaton because he has the potential to be better than the rest, Benson does not.

That's why I suggest his career is on such a poor path. At the same time, perhaps the reason he got into trouble down in Texas was some sort of misguided idea that he needed to make his time there with friends (the gang, the posse, whatever terminology he might use) really count because it was at a premium. He's clearly going to go back down there one way or another. Maybe by playing down there his life could normalize somehow. That's what I'm thinking.

All kidding aside, let's not forget that it wasn't just the two DUIs that put him where he is right now (i.e., nowhere). He sucked as a ball carrier, he doesn't catch passes very well, he sucked as a team mate, and he's coming off a broken leg with a metal plate still in his leg.

And the DUIs very well may mean a long term alcohol problem that may have contributed to some of the things mentioned above. Forget about the former high 1st round status. This is a high failure risk player to take on, apparently without the high reward potential to make him worth the trouble.

FWIW, Adam Scheffler said the Texans weren't interested in Benson a week or two ago when the rumors first started popping up.

We covered this in the Texans off-season thread over the last couple of weeks. I heard this rumor before it hit the message board and then once it hit the message board thee I posted it that thread on FBGa. While there appears to have been some contact between the two, Adam S. on NFLnetwork said that there is not real interest from the Texans in signing Benson.

Rogers doesn't really belong on that list. He just couldn't stay healthy.

Sure he does. He sucked when he came back from injuries. Drugs was the reason this guy busted, not the two clavical injuries.

Yeah it's a lot closer to his drinking buddies.

I'd send him to Alaska to be on the Deadliest Catch.

This could simply mean that the Texans are the only ones who didn't laugh at his calls.

You know the network cant allow this. Benson would see a fish, and immediately fall overboard. The liability is just too high

Here is the thread started by a poster. The site itself did not "report" the rumor, but it was the first public place where the rumor manifest itself. http://texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51343
