Chad Henne - Jacksonville (1 Viewer)

Chad Henne - QB - Jaguars

Jaguars signed QB Chad Henne to a two-year contract.

The odds are strong that Henne will start at some point next season. GM Gene Smith is invested heavily in Blaine Gabbert, but the 2011 first-rounder is going to have to make major strides in pocket presence and accuracy to hold off Henne for the season. Although Henne has been plagued by a hesitancy to take chances down the field and red-zone inefficiency, new coach Mike Mularkey may have more luck bringing out his physical gifts than the Dolphins did.

Why even bother with moves like this? I don't get it.
Did you see Gabbert's frightened turtle impressions last season?
I think Henne is better than Gabbert by a decent stretch. Not that Henne's good, just less sucky. Of course Gabbert could improve maybe.
I think Henne could improve too. But Jacksonville doesnt have the parts to help these QBs out. So it's gonna be a struggle. Maybe Jacksonville takes Blackmon or M.Floyd early on.

Do you recommend they enter the season with just two QBs on their roster, one of them named LeFevour?
No. But why Henne? He didn't do much with Marshall to throw to. How much can he possibly do now? If they want to bring in some competition for Gabbert, theyre not raising the bar very high. Why not go for a guy like Flynn instead?

Because getting into a bidding war for Flynn means a whole lot more money and makes him their starter. They haven't given up on Gabbert, the #10 overall pick, after just one year.Henne was actually considered one of the better FA QBs out there this year.

Usually with young QBs you see a glimmer of talent here and there..with Gabbert I saw nothing to show he can play in this league.

i understand you and mjr and am also really skeptical he'll ever be worth a damn, but the Jags still appear to believe Gabbert can be the guy. So, it's too early to bring in a clear replacement. Instead they've brought in a guy who can suffice for awhile if they are wrong and Gabbert continues to suck, until they can figure out a better permanent solution.

Laurent Robinson is a nice upgrade IMO, and Mike Thomas could be decent as the #2/#3 WR. M. Lewis isn't the worst TE either. They definitely need a true gamechanger, but the cupboard might not be entirely bare.

Two things. Henne was injured and Marshall is a COMPLETE head case and was yapping at him, Moore and he the OC.

Ok, but how long are they going to wait? Until MJD is 30? And what if Gabb doesn't pan ouit? Where are they going to be then?

Good question. I would normally assume Gabbert has one more year to show major improvement, but I've stated more than once on this board that they have one of the 2-3 worst GMs in the biz, so who knows the real answer.

I guess we'll see if he can do it, but I don't think Robinson is going to make the all the difference. Wonder where they're going to do at WR from here, if anything.

Would be nice to know what work Gabbert is putting in this offseason to address his pocket timidity. Count me as one of the koolaid drinkers last spring who picked Gabbert at #12 overall, 2 spots in front of Cam Newton.

I kinda feel bad now. I had been wanting Del Rio to be ousted several years ago due to the ineptitude of this team. I am discovering the real villain behind the curtain is Gene Smith. He is just flat out H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!

They will continue to suck until that nut case is gone. And Shahid Khan doesn't appear to know what he is doing either since he kept Gene Smith. He obviously didn't do his homework on the team before buying it. He just saw it as a tax right off as most business men do.

Oh well.

Not so sure about Robinson. He had a nice year in 2011, but I could easily see him wilting as the #1 in Jacksonville. Having Austin, Bryant and Witten and a running game in Murray/Jones, allowed him to get a lot of single coverage/worse DB on him.I mentioned this in the Meachem thread, but does anyone have any anectdotal evidence of guys who did well as the WR2/3 on teams and signed a big contract to be a WR1 and succeeded? Lloyd comes to mind a bit, but he didn't sign a big deal, he just finally clicked. I remember Alvin Harper and Peerless Price, but can't think of too many.

He is right now working with a QB tutor to improve stuff. Than he will be in camp early this year and has better coaching with Olsen and Mularkey to help the cause. Plue they will add more weapons. I still see a WR in the 2nd or Blackmon if he falls to their pick. Right now a terrible Gabbert will lead them to 1-15. A Henne will lead them to 4-12. Henne might see some time next year if they start out 0-4 but Gabbert will be in when they are 1-9 again with no playoff chance. They really need to find out if Gabbert is QB of the future because Henne is not and just a quality backup. Because if Gabbert is no, there QB of the future is not on the roster and will be drafted.

Henne's better than what they had. With Robinson's signing, the Jags might develop a respectable passing game. You know they still have that Jones-Drew guy, too. But they still need another good wideout.

If it was only that simple. If all that is required to be successful in the NFL is to put in some extra time.. The game is just to fast for Gabbert. He reminds me of Rob Johnson in the pocket. Is Henne the long term solution? Maybe and maybe not. Not every NFL team can have a Brees or Rodgers. There are not 32 guys that can play the position well on the entire planet. A good nfl coach will play the guy that gives him the best chance of winning game in and game out. Otherwise he will be developing the young QB for the next head coach. Gabbert is the starter on paper and it's his job to lose. But once he loses it, don't expect to see him in the lineup again unless Henne gets injured

I heard they are throwing wrenches at him to make him less timid (If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a Defensive lineman).

Too funny. He needs to get comfortable getting hit and knowing he will get up. Big guy like that should be less afraid to hang in there.

He's not afraid to get hit. He's worried that they're going to mess up his beautiful, beautiful hair.

Maybe not (per KFFL)
Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Gene Smith said the team would be willing to trade down in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft if no one they covet is available. Smith believes teams that are interested in Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill would be interested in the pick if he were available.
