Chad Jackson Cut (1 Viewer)

The Raiders will try out free agent WR Chad Jackson.Jackson officially cleared waivers on Monday and is an unrestricted free agent. He is the type of size/speed reclamation project that Al Davis loves. Source: ESPN.com Related: Raiders
Let me guess, Mort? lol that wouldn't surprise me. Mort's a moron. And that doesn't say anything about the Raiders trying him out, just speculates that Al Davis loves a guy like Chad Jackson...
Guessed wrong:(KFFL) Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports the Oakland Raiders will meet with free-agent WR Chad Jackson (Patriots) Tuesday, Sept. 2.
didn't they JUST sign Lelie?? how many freaking WRs do they want on their roster??
Some might argue that they have very few true NFL WR's on their roster.

so what does the Patriot depth chart at WR look like?

Gaffney had 36 rec 449 yards and 5 TDs last year. If he picks up even half of Stallworth's numbers (46 rec 697 yards and 3 TDs) he'd be a decent guy to have. Say, 60 rec, 6 TDs and 700 yards. Not bad for a role player.

I've heard nothing good about this Jackson kid since he entered the league. Lord knows we have room for him on the roster, but I wouldn't be expecting any help.

What do the Raiders have to lose by signing Jackson to a baseline contract? If he wants more than that, then let him go somewhere else. But trotting out the likes of Watkins, Schillens (although I like his potential, eventually), Higgins, and now Lelie (yuuuuck!) as supplements to a not-so great duo of Walker and Curry, this group will not light up the airways if you know what I mean. I think Jackson does have very good natural ability, and maybe by getting cut he decides to turn it up a notch. Worth a shot to find out if it doesn't cost too much.

Like I said we have room, but not sure what the difference is between Lelie nd Jackson, other than Lelie has actually played.

I think Jackson could be Jerry Porter II. Good, or bad? Your call.

Off to Cincinnati:

Wide receiver Chad Jackson is departing Oakland tonight after visiting with the Raiders, his agent David Canter said. Canter said Jackson is off to Cincinnati for a Wednesday visit.

The former Florida star was released by New England on Sunday. Canter said Oakland had interest in signing Jackson at a later date. But Jackson wants to explore other opportunities in the meantime with hopes of being in a uniform for this weekend's games.

(Rotoworld) Free agent Chad Jackson visited with the Bengals late Tuesday.Analysis: Oakland let Jackson leave without a deal. The Bengals may be looking at him as a kick return option who offers more offensive upside than Glenn Holt.

Boston Globe - In a surprising move, the Patriots informed wide receiver Chad Jackson this morning that they are cutting him from the roster, according to a league source.

Just one more NE draftee bust.
Maybe I'm just reading this the wrong way, but NE drafts better than most.
New England isn't known for stellar high draft picks. They are know for taking other teams 2nd and 3rd stringers and turning them into pro-bowlers (Vrabel, Welker etc).

It's hard to evaluate the Pats drafts in recent years because htey had fewer needs and more depth than other teams. So they took players that filled specialized needs and many times were not looking for the same type of players as other teams. They also have done an excellent job trading picks for other picks and players, so IMO their overall draft strategy has been good to excellent.

#1's under BB/Pioli...Seymour, Graham, Warren, Wilfork, Mankins, Maroney, Watson, Merriweather and now Mayo. That's four studs (Seymour, Warren, Wilfork and Mankins), three solid players (Graham, Watson and Maroney) and two incompletes (Merriweather and Mayo). They've done very well for themselves in this area.

Did he sign anywhere yet?
No, but it seems that it may have to do with a players salary being guaranteed if they are on the Opening Day roster.Think we may see a flurry of moves after week 1, including Chad.
Which makes me scratch my head about Lelie... Jackson (IMO) could easily unseat Lelie & Higgins.

I don't give Jackson that much credit.Anytime a team cuts a high round pick, I think you have to wonder a little bit. Any team, Pats or otherwise, want their high picks to work out. When they cut bait so early, it seems to me that they have a good reason. Not that the Raiders have such great WRs, but really, the Pats have room for a young, athletic developmental kid. That they just cut bait on him makes me think they don't believe he is even worth another year as their 5th or 6th WR. Look at Quentin Moses. We dropped him early, and we certainly had room for a DE on the team. Still do. And probably every single team message board had a, "Hey, let's grab this guy, I would take him over__________". Cards fans were thanking us for "accidentally" cutting him. Last I saw, he was playing in the 4th quarter of Dolphin preseason games. The draft is over, and Chad Jackson's combine performance is a long time ago. Since that day, he has done nothing. At all.So while I might take him over Lelie, just based on youth and "upside", I don't think he is a lock to beat out anyone on anyone's current roster. If we sign him next week, great. Let's hope the light goes on. But I am not pining for him.

In order, he's tried out for the Raiders, Dolphins, Bengals, and just a couple days ago the Titans. Still on the open market.
Thanks, David. I was kind of hoping someone would give him a shot but maybe there is something else lurking that we are not aware of here.

Probably due to the fact that he's not that good. If he's not contributing on ST or is able to beat out the marginal talent of WR4s around the league, he's d-o-n-e. Seriously, dude is not catching on with teams (listed by Yudkin) that are in need of WRs and the WRs that are on some of those teams are not that good either. Considering his age and that the teams could have signed him for a minimal salary and zero compensation picks is not a ringing endorsement. It would not be a surprise to see him land in the indoor league soon.

FWIW The Titans had a bunch of WRs try out including Joe Horn, Reche Caldwell, and John Broussard.
