Chan Gailey Bills New HC (1 Viewer)

Main reason why he was hired???

Bills | Gailey to serve as offensive coordinator Tue Jan 19, 04:37 PM

The Associated Press reports Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey said he intends to also serve as the team's offensive coordinator next season.

They don't have to pay Gruden/shanahan/cower money to the head coach AND not pay for an offensive coordinator. With Ralphy it's all about the money.

I really feel for the Bills... they will suck again for the next 3 years until the fans pile up enough money to buy another Billboard telling Wilson he's lost his marbles.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!He wasn't very good with Ga. Tech, and IIRC he was awful with both Miami and the Cowboys.Just checked, the Chiefs were ranked (26/24) offensively when he was OC in '08-09. What makes the Bills think he can be any good?
being any good is irrelevant to Ralphhe works cheap -and he can keep AVP as the OC

If they were going to settle on this guy. Then they might as well of kept Fewell. The team played reasonably well for Fewell and he would probably be cheaper. Well its back to 7-9........

not sure what happened with Frazier. Marty doesn't want to coach anymore according to every report I've heard.
Everything I've heard so far just says that Buddy Nix decided that the offense was the problem, and as such, they HAD to hire a coach with experience on that side of the ball. Since Frazier is a DC, he was no longer under consideration. But I have 2 problems with that:1) Why even bring him in to interview in the first place if you're not willing to hire a DC?2) Why even go this route since you're going to hire an OC to run the offense anyway? If you want a good offense, you hire a good offensive coordinator. If you want a good defense, you hire a good defensive coordinator. If you want a good team and organization, you hire a good Head Coach. Which side of the ball he came from should have NOTHING to do with the hiring of a head coach, IMO.So that's a total indictment of Buddy Nix and singlehandedly soured me on him.
Buddy's plan was to hire Marty and BrianGailey is the Ralph low budget answer

I don't care much about Gailey getting the gig. What I'm interested in is hearing more from Buddy Nix. He's an entertaining feller.

Who else interviewed. i know Russ Grimm was suppose to interview for the job. leslie Frazier not make a trip? This is just the good old boy retread of an NFL guy back into the system. How many guys turned down the opportunity to interview for the job? I find it hard to believe he was their top choice for the job. I would take Mike Nolan or Brian Bileck before i would dust off Gailey to be my head coach.
Maybe Billick, Nolan, et al , turned them down?Obviously, a lot will be determined by the staff he hires ( coordinators, trainers, coaches, etc)..

he did some good things in KC, given the lack of offensive talent, O-line, porous defense that kept offensive possessions to a minimum. I'd be the Chiefs were at the bottom in terms of time of possession, so their offense never really got in sync, mostly spent time on the bench.

but this has

:tfp: written all over it.

also, he probably came at a cheap pay rate, lot less than what others mght've been asking.

7-9 is being very generous. Oh well, every division needs a doormat...

I thought Gailey was a pretty assistant coach when he was with the Steelers but that was many moons ago. You would have thought the Bills would have hired a young fiery coach to breathe some life into the team.
We all start to lose our looks as we age. Can't hold that against him.

Seems like a lot of football insiders think its a very solid hire. Gailey isn't a sexy pick and will need to have a strong draft and have the Bills playing more competitive next year if he wants to win over the fans.

Really? All I've been hearing is that it's a brutal hire. Seems to me that it's Buffalo's 18th choice for head coach. They should have signed Frazier after the Vikings finish their season as HC, then had Gailey come in to be OC. BUT I won't jump on this brutal hire until I see who else Gailey brings with him.

I have stopped watching PTI because the two hosts just get on my nerves but I did catch TK's comments in the show the other night and I thought he summed it up really well.

It was the type of hire you would expect form a company that knew they were closing soon. I have not looked at any posts in here but I can't see anyway that this is a positive. Only a diehard fan would defend this and the GM defending himself and saying 45 people wanted the job...sure 45 homeless folks but the names of people that would not even return the phone call from Buffalo is long and distinguished.

I disagree with the person on ESPN though that said Buffalo is becoming the Oakland East, that is way off base. Buffalo does not have a terrible owner in Ralph Wilson, it's just not a fun place to live and I think established coaches that already have a good amount of money to their name will pass that job early and often.

As a Dolphinsfan I was relieved when it was announced Gailey would be their HC and I doubt Sporano, Ryan, or BB are losing much sleep over that hire.

I've yet to find a single person who thinks this.
Tell me about this Buddy Nix character? He seems just as bad. The more I see and hear the clips of him, the funnier (if you're not a Bills fan). They kept playing clips of his comments on Imus and it was hysterical. The guy was full of #### with the things he was saying, then slams Oakland, which was funny. But a GM has to know how to handle himself better than that. He even finishes by telling the press not to print the Oakland comment as he shuffles away.As I said, I think he hired himself, a beer buddy.

he's hilarious. the team is going to suck regardless, so at least he'll provide some laughs along the way.Gailey is only slightly less boring than Jauron.

Bills | Whaley accepts assistant GM job Wed Feb 3, 06:18 PM Updating a previous report, Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers pro scouting coordinator Doug Whaley has accepted the offer to become the Buffalo Bills assistant general manager position.
Does anyone know anything about this guy? Any Pitt guys out there have any insight on him?Maybe he can help during the draft and bring in some talent?

from Wiki

Pittsburgh Steelers

Whaley worked for the steelers as a Pro Personel Coordinator. He worked there for 10 years before accepting the Buffalo Bills job. Whaley worked directly under Kevin Colbert the Director of Football Operations. He is most known for his great scouting ability of Defensive players. In his time with the Steelers Whaley and the Steelers drafted Lamarr Woodley,Troy Polamalu, and Lawrence Timmons.

Football career

Whaley played college football at Pittsburgh as a Safety and Linebacker.

E-mail gaffe

Whaley gained unwanted notoriety in 2007 when an inappropriate e-mail that he had sent to Steelers assistant coach Larry Zierlein was inadvertently forwarded by Zierlein to a large number of high-level NFL employees, including commissioner Roger Goodell. The e-mail reportedly contained a pornographic video. Zierlein apologized for the gaffe, and it is believed that neither he nor Whaley were disciplined by the team or the league.[1]

"I'll teach you the meaning of 'discipline'!" :brownchickenbrowncow:

Gailey won't make anyone forget Vince Lombardi, but the team seems to believe in him and they certainly play hard for him.

You can't say that about every coach.

Probably a lot more sleepless nights now than people though. And my guess is that Sporano is sitting there at night hugging his knees and rocking back and forth because he "doesn't know what to do" and is just waiting for the call telling him he's fired.
