Chances of Being Paid for Last Year (1 Viewer)

Mr. Know-It-All

Won a league with a bunch of local guys who I only know through the internet. It is now January and haven't sniffed a payment. Have sent two different e-mails to the commish, both unanswered.

Do most leagues settle up sooner than January?

I am more ticked about the principle than I am the money - it is a low dollar league ($50 entry fee or something like that). Just cut my losses? In every league I have commished, I have paid out promptly at the end of the season, but two years ago I won and the payment came in early December; now this year it is January and no e-mails are being returned.

Do we have any welshers here at FBG that could provide insight?

Not a welsher, but having been at both ends of this equation, it is quite late to be paid. I wouldn't ask for payment, I'd instead send an e-mail out to the whole league, bringing up the 2010 season--asking if there will be a league if it is non-keeper, soliciting trade offers if is is keeper, and asking about a draft/auction date. Then once people get talking, bring up the payment issue. Whether the commish participates in baseball discussions is a tell on whether there is a chance at getting paid.

i'm still waiting for my 2nd-place money. two of 10 owners haven't settled up on transaction fees, yet our commish refuses to think about changing the 2010 rules to increase the league fee and elminate transaction fees.

i think if you are in a league where the average income is around $50K, you are probably dealing with some tough times for people.

i mean, my company is negotiating a new contract with our union. company wants a 10 percent paycut and a two-week furlough. fantasy sports would probably be the first thing to go if that happened.

baseball season is so long that a lot happens. a number of my co-owners in my league had to take a 10-percent pay cut last year during the season. so i can see why its taking time to get paid up.

that said we're talking $100 or less. its reached a breaking point.

A lot of good ideas being kicked around in my "Socalbroncofan" thread in the FFA.

Well, the commish is a good guy and sent me an e-amil today saying payment was on the way. Part of the problem is I am giving up ALL fantasy sports for the year (3 baseball leagues and 2 football leagues). Of all the leagues, this was the only keeper league. So I told the guy he could deduct my entry fee for this year from the winnings and use it to cover a new owner if he wanted to.

Small gesture on my part, but I didn't want to leave the league in a lurch....just needed to take a break for the year a reprioritize my free time.
