Channing Crowder talks about........ London (1 Viewer)

Dolphins LB Channing Crowder, who appears likely to start in the middle Sunday against the Giants with Zach Thomas ailing, says he didn't know until Tuesday that people in London speak English.

"I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries," he said. "I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I know London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name."

dear god........ :goodposting:
I want to believe that he's just an extremely funny guy because I was
That's pretty much my take. He is either a genius or...
. . . Norman Einstein?

saw this in the comments:Here are some facts about Channing. He scored a 30 on the wonderlic. He was a member of the National Honors Society in college. He had a validated 3.5 GPA at University of Florida, and I believe he graduated early.
Looks like he's messing with the reporter. He is likely smarter then most on this board.
While an average football player usually scores around 20 points, The Wonderlic, Inc claims a score of at least 10 points suggests a person is literate [4]. Furthermore, when the test was given to miscellaneous people of various professions, it was observed that the average participant scored a 24. Examples of scores from everyday professions included, * Chemist - 31 * Programmer - 29 * Newswriter - 26 * Sales - 24 * Bank teller - 22 * Clerical Worker - 21 * Security Guard - 17 * Warehouse - 15

Crowder attended classes at the University of Florida.
Which is a top 20 public school. You can find stupid athletes at any school.
The Florida Alum has spoken and he's proud of his collige edukation....
Well considering most making fun of Florida couldn't get in their you are correct.Mainly though it's rather ignorant to take a single example in any argument/issue and try and make a broad assumption on it. It's just simple statistics.

I guess in some cultures acting ignorant is cool then.

Do you have a UF course guide? I'm looking for a course on Oversensitivity Training. TIA.

Word on the street is that Channing Crowder actually took the Wonderlic for Frank Gore and Javon Walker as a favor to help boost their draft stock.

I hope people are beginning to understand he was hamming it up, and read with a straight and stoic eye, you'll miss out on the fact that he was just being a goof. He's got to be careful, because it does look bad. But, I seriously thought it was all pretty hilarious.

Dude -- you need to lighten up about this. Seriously.

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don't have maps. And I believe that our education, like, such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere, like such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future...for our children.

i think the funniest part is the black people don't exist in london thing.. at the least he should know he lennox lewis is, right? right? ah well...
except for the fact Lennox is Canadian.....and he doesn't live in London....
Good point. I think he was thinking of Frank Bruno.
Easy mistake since Lennox puts on that fake English accent... kinda like Madonna.
Sure, the sort of "fake" accent you'd pick up if you happened to have been born in London and lived there the first 12 years of your life.

Do you have any links to prove this? It's more likely his quote, given his personal history, is accurate and the guy really is ignorant. After all, this is the "University" of FloriDuh. Meyer would let any ignoramus or felon play as long as he could weasel his way to a national championship.

here's a quote from his Wikipedia page. super funny or super dumb?

Crowder was asked in August 2007 who might play him in a movie. His response: "There aren’t any actors out there, you know, fine enough. I don’t know. Got to be light-skinned. Got to be big. Got to be fine. Got to be like a sex symbol. But nobody’s got dreads, ain’t nobody sweet enough. Got to be animated. Like a Thundercat! Or a Transformer!"
He's now one of my favorite players. :goodposting:

More quotes from CC:
Of course, there are lots of black people in London. In fact, one of those black people from London is Marvin Allen, a wide receiver whom you'd think Crowder would know because Allen is on the Dolphins' practice squad. When reminded about Allen, Crowder said: "He's from London?" Crowder said. "I knew he was from over there because he talks funny. I was surprised (when they met) because - I don't want to say he didn't look the part because that's a stereotype - but he didn't look the part. I heard him talk, and I thought he had a recorder and was just mouthing."Channing Crowder is funny.

:goodposting: He reminds me of Portis in that he doesn't take the media seriously at all.

Channing Crowder was apparently joking when he offered his much-repeated quote about London last week. The linebacker was asked by a British reporter if he had any parting words for the British public. "I'm quite intelligent," Crowder said, laughing. "I got a 1280 on the SATs. I don't know if you take that over here. I'm a pretty smart guy. I was joking. I'm a joker on the team." And one of the greatest quotes ever loses some relevance …
