Chargers at Browns (1 Viewer)

Sort of a weird time to use Ronnie Brown. Mathews got 9 yards total on his first two carries, so Brown got the call on third and one. Yes, he's the third-down back, but that usually means third and at least four.

Anyway, it worked, and now Mathews is back in on first down.

Rivers' first pass is complete to Malcom Floyd.

It's rainy, wet, and windy. The weather benefited the Chargers on that play, however, as it looked like the DB (Joe Haden? I didn't see) lost his footing.

Browns going on 4th after the Chargers failed in the same situation.

Weeden sneak converts.

His own OL ran up his back and almost knocked him down but then grabbed him as he was falling. TRich kept the legs moving the whole time so it wasn't too tough to keep his balance, then nothing in front of him but end zone.

Shoddy tackling by San Diego, wow there's something you never see!

What are the merits of using a challenge on a 6 yard play where successfully overturning means 2nd and 10? Doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

Once again, the contrast between Mathews and Brown is stark. It is mind boggling that the coaching staff continues to do this.

The challenge seems to have worked.
You are assuming they wouldn't have stopped the Chargers anyway.Doesn't this potentially limit the Browns now? They only have one challenge left, unless the second one is successful, in which case they will get a third. The risk is that they miss on the next one and need a third they won't have, or that they are right on two more challenges but would have needed a third. Just doesn't seem worth it when the Chargers were on their own 18 yard line.

Cleveland coaching staff is not impressing. Richardson is dominating. Why try to get fancy in this weather? Just pound the rock.

Oh brother. Now a loss of twenty on a botched trickeration play. Now a 34 yard punt? Come on, the punters are going to play a big role in a sloppy field game like this.

LOL, well I guess I can't complain if the horrible punts are happening to both clubs. The winds do tend to swirls at CBS.

Oh and Rivers has only completed ONE PASS to the left side of his feild.

Is this typical of Rivers?

Terrific game thread everyone, awesome to fly in here and get some real instant analysis. Please keep it coming.
I would give play by play but I don't have expressed written consent of the National Football League, lol.Um, T-Rich was out for that last series. Hardesty got one small carry and Silent-G dropped what would have been a sure-fire first down and possibly big gainer on a screen play where he had two blockers out in front.

Brown converts on a 3rd down reception.

Thank you for keeping the drive alive Ronnie. Now Mathews get in the freaking end zone.

Rivers almost picked again. Putting too much air under the ball on his deep throws. Cant blame the rain. He's been doing this for a year and a half now.

I don't know why the refs keep missing that the Browns defense has too many men on the field. They're double-covering every receiver (or at least every receiver that is thrown to) while rushing five guys. That's not mathematically possible without cheating.

They just showed that stat where the Chargers WRs are ranked 31st in the league in receptions but their RBs are ranked #1. I noticed he wasn't throwing to his left until that series, the crossing route to Browns for the first down but then he tried going on a really deep out pattern and it did look ugly. He's not having much success going to Joe Haden's side so I don't understand why he hasn't tested Sheldon Brown on the left with a few mid-range patterns.
