Chargers vs Patriots game thread (1 Viewer)

Pats are just flat out owning the Chargers on both sides of the ball.

This Chargers D was supposed to be pretty good, right?
No D is good in zone against Brady. They have mastered destroying it.

Denver, nyg, and Baltimore have shown that the only way to slow down the pats in the postseason is to hit Brady and press man with great tackling at the catch point.

But teams come out over and over again with a soft zone and three man rush because....well, I don't know why.
Yet inept coaches still make it easy on the Pats on their way to the SB by stubbornly playing zone. I mean, ####, everyone sees it. How do these idiots not?

I live in SoCal and there was a writeup in the Sports page this morning describing matchups and who had the edge.

When I got to the New England Offense vs. San Diego defense and it said "Edge - Chargers", I knew that the moron homer who wrote it would be getting crap tomorrow.

Is this an attempt to say the 9 straight byes is a mirage, and the pats aren’t good and purely a result of the bad AFC east?

Because it’s looking like 8 Straight Conference championships.... double the next longest streak.

We are watching the waning years of the undisputed greatest dynasty in NFL history.
Agree this is the greatest dynasty in NFL history.  My post above was meant to point out how inept the other teams in the division have been, not to take away anything the PATs have done. Brady and that bunch have been great. And they've been great finishers.

The question was why so many consecutive byes. Being the only consistently good team in the division helps get those bye.  I think a Pats team playing in the AFC North wouldn't have as many consecutive byes. My opinion.

Does Rivers’ volatile nature contribute to his teams’ terrible playoff results? I would say it does. The greatest clutch QBs are calm, cool, unflappable guys who help calm their teammates. The classic example is Joe Montana before the winning drive in SB 23: “Hey, there’s John Candy.”

Rivers is wound so tight, and his clutch results are terrible
He was like that in college, too. While he was great, he never beat Maryland. Fridge had just gotten there and I'm blanking on his 1st DC, but the Terps flustered him over and over again. He had good numbers in those games, but would always go sideways at the wrong time.

Anyway, I was hoping Rivers could get over this hump (plus, I wanted NE to lose). I at least wanted a good game, but maybe it's time to see what college hoops contests are on.

Well screaming at the O Line there and publicly humiliating a guy for a bad play ought to help a lot here

Burkhead would get the bulk of carries at this point.  Michel should get the rest of the afternoon off. Get ready for KC.

Looking forward to Gronk  getting a curtain call as Belichick calls him out of the huddle and to the sideline halfway through the 4th quarter. He deserves it (if it is his last home game) and B.B. is actually good at that kind of stuff

I think it's charming people thought the Chargers would win this, or even keep it close. We could see a 50 point win here today, if the Pats wanted to.

KC -3.  Just because of homefield.  KC needs to pressure Brady (duh!).  Looking forward to seeing how Mahomes handles this defense. Should be fun to watch.

It's gonna be such an awesome AFC title game.  That would make for a fun superbowl.

The pick of Michel is making more and more sense. With Brady not nearly as dominant anymore and Gronk at the end, the offense is likely going to go through Sony next year.
He doesn't look fast, but he's further downfield than it initially appears on many plays. He had a 7.9 ypc as a senior.

"Not impressive" is generous. That Miracle in Miami could likely cost them another SB appearance.

Chiefs will host Chargers or Patriots next week. If it's Patriots, that defense is 2nd in DVOA at home, 31st on the road.
