Charity Music Draft - Theme 1 (1 Viewer)

Gogo simey!  :excited:
😲  I don't even know what I'm supposed to do. Do I just post the song?  I don't have to talk about the song do I?  I have to make a phone call at 10, so I may have to give my pick to someone, or post it at like 9:30.

You can do it anytime, before or during your slot.  I don't recall your ever getting the first pick!  Exciting!

I vaguely remember doing a draft here with assigned time slots. Don't remember if it was for music, sports or any of a couple dozen other subjects.

I think you can just post a song, but we're all pretty chatty here.  I have some reasons why I'm picking my songs.

No sniping, please.
I think I know what I will go with first, and I can think of two others, but need one more. All of those (except my first) could blow up if I'm sniped. I'll just make it up as we go along.

You only need one right now.  And we're all just making it up.  Right?

Right?

This is a good point.  If everyone ahead of you has already drafted, you don't have to wait until your time slot to draft.  In simey's case, since she's first, she can start the draft whenever she's ready.  However, the rest of the draft would proceed as scheduled with Yo Mama's timer not ending until 11:00.  Of course, he's free to draft as soon as simey does.

Ultimately it's whatever you want to make of it.  It may benefit you to attach a story to the song for judging purposes, but that's not necessary.

The judges are going to possibly read a story? I misunderstood this draft. I'm going to just keep it simple.
You can keep it as simple as you want.  I likely will too.  I was just theorizing that some may attach an anecdote or memory to give a better sense why the song relates to this particular theme.

The theme of the first draft has already been disclosed:  It's a beautiful Spring evening, you're driving home with the windows open after just finding out you received a promotion and a large raise. What song are you blasting in the car?

I just found out I got a raise and promotion and I'm cruising home, so I pop in this song, cause it feels so good...

Round 1

Feelin' Good Again - Robert Earl Keen

Mine isn't, but it's still a great idea.

Please put me on autoskip unless I say different.
That's the beauty of it all.  You don't need to go on autoskip.  Your timeslot will simply come and go and the next person will know when to draft.  Then you fill in your slot when you're able and nobody has to manage anything.

I guess what I'm saying is that the person drafting after me (johnnycakes in the odd rounds and OH in the even) doesn't have to wait for me to timeout.

I think everyone HAS to wait until their timeslot unless everyone else has picked before them freeing them up to draft earlier.

Although there are "stakes" now, I do hope that no one takes this too seriously - in the end it's the charities that really win after-all. Personally I'll treat it like all other drafts and take songs I like and in this case leave the judging to the judges.

That's what I'm trying to say here (apparently very poorly). If I don't post differently - like, "Hey, I'm in the thread and ready to make my pick when it's my turn" - then whoever is choosing behind me can go immediately instead of waiting for me to timeout.

I think this would only matter where everyone else scheduled to pick ahead of you has picked - otherwise johnny and OH would need to wait until their time-slot. Not trying to argue with you just trying to (hopefully) hash out the rules.

I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be. I'm just saying to the folks drafting behind me, don't wait for me to timeout before you pick. Or do, if that makes Cranks' life easier. I'm veering into squis territory here when I'm trying to make things easier so carry on, good people.

Your intentions are good but I think it'll just make things more complicated than they need to be.

This is gonna be fun/tough to judge.  I'm gonna listen to each song as it's posted and rate it 1-5.  I think that'll make it easier to rank the collections later on.

I will pick in about 5-10 minutes.  Reviewing the going-ons to make sure I did not miss any important updates.

If I just got a big promotion / raise, I’m going to want something to shamelessly sing along to at the top of my lungs with the windows down. In fact, I want it to be something the person in the car next to me sings along to with me. Yo Mama selects:

1.02 - Don’t Stop Believin’ - Journey

Cheesy, overplayed, but something I can happily belt out with no shame.
Yo Mama's just a smalltown girl, livin' in a lonely world..............hold on to that feelin', Ma

worldclass strut ri'chere. perpwalk to Happytown

ETA: the O'Jays played the casino i worked @ about a decade ago. their fame for coordinated, wildly-colored tuxedos inspired a tux-color pool among the poker players for each of their six shows. the greatest indicator that poker players are the best prop bettors in the world: they broke down the color blue into Royal, Electric & Powder categories.

I chose three songs for this in about ten seconds after Cranks first posted his idea. This pick has a backstory for me. The better version is jazzy, of course, but it bangs and celebrates in ways we all relate to because of it's association to the original Rocky. Bill Conti composed it for the movie and that version uses a Hollywood orchestra and barely goes over two minutes. It rose to #1 on the charts. Canadian jazz trumpeteer, Maynard Ferguson, took it to another level and his may be the more familair version. His trumpet kills, great guitar soloing, and the percussions demand air drumming. my poor steering wheel.

One of my life long best friends is an accomplished sax player. In 79-80 he led the high school "small band" that occupied the upper southeast corner of our gym's bleachers for high school basketball games. I was on a great team. I mostly rode the pine, but we just destroyed teams at home. We beat both Saugus and Hart, two storied SoCal programs, both by 50+ points. Oh, the fun and the memories.

Know how football teams bust through a banner when the take the field before a game? We did that for bball games. :)

My good buddy the sax man would start the song soloing... we'd bust through, the crowd goes wild, the layup drill would last the duration of the song. Goosebumps reminiscing. haha

Because of it's use in the movie, it's associated with hard hard work resulting in uncommon and unexpected success.

1.04 Maynard Ferguson - Gonna Fly Now

Hey, you’re in my neck of the woods. We used to play in the Hart and Saugus basketball tournaments every year in high school.  Used to hate those 8am games over Christmas break with the gym still 40 degrees.

When I saw the Stevie song, I was like sniped right in front of me... and while that one was in the top 3 for me, this is the one I wanted and I'm not taking a chance it's not there tomorrow, so I apologize for taking back to back song from the same artist.

1.07 Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) - Stevie Wonder

@Manster
the next 10 could be Stevies and not disrupt World Order one li'lbit

1.09 - Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid

Check the mirror, I'm lookin' fly
Round up the posse, jump in my ride
Radio rockin', a monster jam
Feel the rhythm, pump up the sound
I'm feelin' so good
Don't you know I'm just groovin' to the beat
This was top of my list for one approach I was going to take (hip hop songs about getting paid). Mo Money was on that list too.
