Dolphins | Team to meet with Rogers

Tue, 5 Sep 2006 04:41:37 -0700

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Miami Dolphins apparently have a visit planned with free agent WR Charles Rogers (Lions). His agent, Kevin Poston, declined to talk specifically about his client's options. Dolphins head coach Nick Saban recruited him to Michigan State.

The Saban link is interesting.

Saban link is interesting, I agree

Pretty sure the Vikings have a visit setup too. It wasn't til I read your post that I figured it out. I thought the radio guy said they gave Boston a call about Rogers. I was wonderring why call David Boston about Rogers?

Saban recruited Rogers at MSU and Bobby Williams, his head coach at Michigan State, is now RB coach with Miami. Seems an obvious move.

Somehow I doubt Shaun Bodiford would get this much press if the Dolphins were after him. Of course, that would have required the Lions keeping Rogers over Bodiford.

That's all Rogers needs, is to live in the drug heaven of Miami. That will seal his fate. If Rogers is smart he will go to Minnesota, screw his head on straight, and realize it's a privilege to play in the NFL not a right..

Rogers likes his beer too. Minny might not be good for him.

You can't hide it from him, but reducing the temptation is advised in the case of Chas Rogers.

The Dolphins actually have room on the roster for Rogers. Their current WR #5 is Cliff Russell - a five year journeyman with no significant playing experience. With Booker turning 31 next season and carrying a high cap number, the #2 WR job in Miami is definitely wide open next season. Rogers could do worse than landing in Miami with Culpepper, Chambers, Ronnie, McMike, etc. Not to mention the whole Michigan State coaching staff that made him a superstar in the first place.

Makes too much sense not to happen, imo.

Maybe he was trying to get one overhyped, washed-up has-been's opinion of another? :(

Right on. No way an NFL player could get into any sort of off-the-field trouble in Minnesota. :lmao: PSThough, yes I agree Miami holds a *tad* more temptation.

I think it's clear to most everyone on this board I'm a Colts fan. For the record, I'm a ND fan for college, so I have no homerism with Charles Rogers. I had him on one of my 5 dynasty leagues, but not anymore.Edited to say, unless you are making a reference to homerism because I live in Minnesota. If so, I'm just in Minnesota because of my job, and I certainly don't have any love for the Vikings. However, I do like the Twinkies.

Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for former Detroit Lions receiver Charles Rogers, said on WSVN-TV the Dolphins have shown interest in his client. Rogers, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft, was cut by the Lions after three injury-plagued seasons. Saban recruited Rogers to Michigan State before Saban left for LSU. "We'll make some decisions later on as to who we decide to work out," Saban said. "Things just haven't worked out for him (in Detroit). That doesn't mean there is not some other circumstance that he wouldn't fit into. He has a lot of ability. Since he is a player that we know, we would love to see the guy do well."

I read this as a Homer Simpson reference. But I'm dumb as a post.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: homer as in Homer Simpson.

Where do you guys see him playing if he did get picked up by Miami or Minnesota? Would he start this season?
Not a chance in hell he would start for either, but his chances are better in MN.
That's not being very open minded. He could be the #3 in Miami if he gets things worked out. I'm thinking of dropping a scrub for him....just in case.
This guy is a loser. He hasn't been able to make anything of his NFL chances under two coaches at Detroit, and a WR oriented OC. Stick a fork in him.

Sorry if this is old news....

Buccaneers | Team works out C. Rogers

Thu, 7 Sep 2006 05:49:21 -0700

Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers worked out free agent WR Charles Rogers (Lions) Wednesday, Sept. 6.

BUT

Buccaneers | No contract offer for C. Rogers

Fri, 8 Sep 2006 05:54:50 -0700

The St. Petersburg Times reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not made a contract offer to free agent WR Charles Rogers (Lions). "I'm not going to get into all that," head coach Jon Gruden said. "He was the No. 2 pick overall (2003). He's on the free agent wire right now, and we thought it was important for us to meet him and see how he's doing physically; just get a feel for him from our own standpoint. We had pretty good grades on him, obviously, coming out. We just took a look into his situation as we have a number of players."

Given that the NFL hasn't yet expanded to Salt Lake City, and none of the NFL cities are known for being drug free, I don't see where this is really a factor.
