My wife is a kick-### RE agent.  I can put you in contact if you are serious.
I have had a few inquiries from companies in the area and also a recruiter asking just no bites as of yet.  How far out does she work, I.e. just NC?

Is Midwood smokehouse the preferred BBQ joint? I've been to the one in Ballantyne but didn't know there was any hype to it.  We like Jim & Nick's and City BBQ, but mostly because they are really close.

Macs Speed Shop gets a lot of hype but personally, I don't think it's all that.
I've been to both locations, and IMO Plaza Midwood >>>>> Ballantyne location.

My personal favorite is Moe's Orignal BBQ in Matthews.

she is licensed in NC and SC.  She has worked all over Charlotte but we live just over the border in SC and so south Charlotte/SC are the areas she knows best.

Hey man, tried to PM but your inbox must be full.  See below:

Hey man, hope all is well. Odd question - do you know if your wife can run a MLS search or other type search to see what properties for sale may offer alternative purchase options like rent-to-own type agreements?

Long story short, looking to move soon and have been looking at rentals because my downpayment money will be tied up for the next ~6-8 months and I'm not 100% sure on a location. I am not finding the perfect rental fit. Current plan is to rent for a year then buy. Their are lots of houses for purchase that fit our criteria, but not necessarily rentals.

Criteria:

4+ bedrooms

3+baths

Probably min 2,750 s.f.

Harrisburg/Concord are the two locations that work

We haven't really talked to a realtor since we've focused on renting, so I didn't know if this was a search that could be done or if there are other resources. Thanks GB.

Slap - would the water this time of year be too cold?  Also, is not everybody can do the activities physically I’m guessing it’s best for them to do something else or can they get in without having to pay as long as they don’t participate?
You only pay for the activities or there are multi-activity passes.  You can hang out and drink beer on the grounds and pay nothing (except parking), in fact some nights the place essentially turns into a giant beer garden.

This sounds even better!
RiverJam, which is what he's referencing, unfortunately doesn't start until later in April. But it's pretty cool. They have a live band on the island and people spread out on the lawn and drink beer.

Check out all the stuff they have there. They have zip lines, obstacle courses, rock climbing... all sorts of stuff for kids. Not just rafting.

Yes - will be 8 kids in the group, ages 10-18.  Looks cool, will check it out.

Any restaurant recommendations?   looking for something that obviously will accommodate a large group (13 total) - looking for anything unique and with good beer.
Check out Olde Meck, fairly kid friendly for a brewery/beer garden with a big open space.

Anything you looking for as far as restaurants?  Most of the good BBQ places were named, but there is other stuff.

As far as other activities, there is also the NASCAR Hall of Fame....I haven't actually been, but I've heard good things.

Look and see where Papi Queso will be when you are here. If they are at any Charlotte brewery, go there. Yes it is a food truck... but holy #### it's amazing.

Thanks guys for the suggestions - I’ll try to reply to questions but one was where are we staying - it appears to be the Ballatyne area.

I really only have two things I’m looking for in a restaurant:

1. Can accommodate our large group (13)

2. Something unique - no chains

JJ's Red Hots for something more on the casual side (but amazing)

Heist Brewery has decent beer, but really good food

Cabo Fish Taco is pretty great, and Haberdish has some awesome southern food, their fried chicken is fantastic

Abari is cool and open to to kids if you happen to be around on the weekend 12-5ish.

Ballantyne is a good area to stay, but you will want to head more north (LoSo, South End, Plaza Midwood, Uptown, NoDa) for food and entertainment.

edit - Old Meck is great if you like German beer, especially if it's nice out. There are probably 100 picnic tables outside to eat and drink at

Price's Chicken Coop is a Charlotte staple. It's cash only and take out though.

I like Pike's Soda Shop for shakes and desserts, but doesn't accommodate large crowds well.

For burgers try The Liberty.

If you're looking for upscale one of my favorites is The Fig Tree.

Where are you staying?

Unfortunately, Ballentyne is on a bit of a downswing as far as restaurants go. There's really only two I like.

Jade for Sushi and Blue Taj for Indian.

Honestly, unless you're golfing, there isn't a whole lot in Ballentyne (one guy's opinion).
That’s cool - with a group that large we will be moving slow and the week is about letting the kids have fun and spend time together.  That and beer.

When are you here?

I'll throw in a plug for my little town of Matthews. You can go to a Charlotte Independence soccer game. Hit Moe's BBQ or Mac's Speed Shop for BBQ or Jekyll and Hyde for lunch/dinner. Then have beer and wine at SeaboardTemple MojoCarolina Beer Temple, or Black Chicken all within walking distance.

Oversee Procurement, contracts, MRO, Sourcing, supply chain etc, etc, etc, for 4 chemical manufacturing plants and one other facility.

What on earth is LoSo supposed to be?

As others have said, there are plenty of different activities there.  You have to pay to park out there.  Check out their site:  https://usnwc.org/

You could also look into ImaginOn and Discovery Place, although I'm not sure what ages those are best for.

There's not.  Ballantyne is very corporate.  I'm about 5 miles south of there.

In the plaza with the martini glass shape building, there's a Black Finn (high end sports bar), a Mellow Mushroom, a Burger 21 (counter service burgers), and I have a kid who is a barista at Rush Espresso.

Across Johnston, there's a Bad Daddy (good burger joint) JJs Red Hots,  and (this is probably more for locals) the Harris Teeter has a bar that pours really good craft beer for cheap - I'm talking bourbon barrel aged Russian Imperial stouts for $5.

Not far from there is a shopping plaza called Blakeney. Here there is a Brix pizza and my wife's favorite, Thai 1st. There's also a Cold Stone here, and a nice playground if your kids are small and need to play.

On Ballantyne commons, there is a really good Vietnamese joint we just tried a couple of weeks ago called Be's Noodles & Banh MI.

Definitely get some BBQ while here. We discussed Midwood Smokehouse earlier: I took the family to the Ballantyne one last week. The brisket was really good but everything was a bit salty.  We prefer Jim and Nick's, which is just south of the border in SC.

I don't know what else there is to do and see in Ballantyne, especially with kids. In Pineville there's a ice skating rink I like to take my kids to, go-carts (I assume they are open but haven't been there in years), a sky zone, etc.

You know, something you might consider (weather depending, of course) is rent kayaks or tubes and float down the Catawba in Fort Mill.

If you are looking to do anything specific, I'm happy to help.  Like I said, this is my neck of the woods.

Here's one more: Google Halls Family Farm. It's just a little bit south.  If ripe, they have all you can pick strawberries. Little kids really enjoy picking and eating strawberries.

They have had some award winners, but the entirety of their offering is just ok for me. Heist is definitely one of the most polarizing breweries in town I think.

I'm an IPA fan so their beers are right up my alley.  Everyone has different taste so I say - "like what you drink and drink what you like"

I guess, if you can get it.  I've never been to a place that is so constantly out of most of their own beers
Their availability should be much better now their new equipment is online.  I'm starting to see distribution of their beers outside of the taproom.

Good to know.  I just live a couple blocks away so I'll walk over and give another shot...

They just opened a Moe’s BBQ real close to me on Providence Rd going into Waxhaw. Grabbed a pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty damn good.

Try the smoked wings. They are fantastic. Ribs are great too.

Have you tried Exchange Pizza behind Seaboard?  Only had one pie from there but their crust was awesome.
Yes, like you just once and thought it was really good.  Probably will have more opportunity when it warms up and we start hanging out outside.
