Unfortunately, Ballentyne is on a bit of a downswing as far as restaurants go. There's really only two I like.
Jade for Sushi and
Blue Taj for Indian.
Honestly, unless you're golfing, there isn't a whole lot in Ballentyne (one guy's opinion).
There's not. Ballantyne is very corporate. I'm about 5 miles south of there.
In the plaza with the martini glass shape building, there's a Black Finn (high end sports bar), a Mellow Mushroom, a Burger 21 (counter service burgers), and I have a kid who is a barista at Rush Espresso.
Across Johnston, there's a Bad Daddy (good burger joint) JJs Red Hots, and (this is probably more for locals) the Harris Teeter has a bar that pours really good craft beer for cheap - I'm talking bourbon barrel aged Russian Imperial stouts for $5.
Not far from there is a shopping plaza called Blakeney. Here there is a Brix pizza and my wife's favorite, Thai 1st. There's also a Cold Stone here, and a nice playground if your kids are small and need to play.
On Ballantyne commons, there is a really good Vietnamese joint we just tried a couple of weeks ago called Be's Noodles & Banh MI.
Definitely get some BBQ while here. We discussed Midwood Smokehouse earlier: I took the family to the Ballantyne one last week. The brisket was really good but everything was a bit salty. We prefer Jim and Nick's, which is just south of the border in SC.
I don't know what else there is to do and see in Ballantyne, especially with kids. In Pineville there's a ice skating rink I like to take my kids to, go-carts (I assume they are open but haven't been there in years), a sky zone, etc.
You know, something you might consider (weather depending, of course) is rent kayaks or tubes and float down the Catawba in Fort Mill.
If you are looking to do anything specific, I'm happy to help. Like I said, this is my neck of the woods.
