cheap speed (1 Viewer)

Depends on what you're looking for. If you want guys who may steal a lot of bases while providing negative value everywhere else - Tavares, Bourn, Pierre, Gomez, Josh Anderson, Gardner, Rajai Davis, if either Burris or Velez win the SF 2B battle (I think they're both going to lose), Castillo, Kaz, etc.

I prefer to look for guys late that can do more than just steal bases - I'm looking at Dickerson, Maybin, Fred Lewis, Felipe Lopez, Dukes, Pie, etc.

One ultra-cheap guy I like in AL only or deep mixed leagues is Ryan Freel. He was hurt last year but has been running in Spring Training for the Orioles. He only has OF eligibility now but should gain eligibility at MI early in the year.

The  in me hates to admit it but Juan Pierre may finally be a value pick this year. He'll get his steals wherever and whenever he plays.

Burriss may still win the 2B job for the Giants. He'll still bat at the bottom of a bad NL batting order but should steal 20 if he gets playing time.

Agree that Freel is way under the radar for once in a while. He usually has decent OBP as well.I'm banking on Pierre getting 30 steals which I think is possible. There's no way the Dodgers can trade him away, so whatever he's doing will have to be in LA.

Agree Pierre is stuck in LA but even as a OF4, he'll get some ABs and SBs. Last year at this time, he was competing with Kemp, Ethier and Jones. This year, Andruw has been upgraded to Manny, who'll produce more but will probably lose more time to injuries and defensive substitutions.

That's the way I reasoned it. For some reason people seem to think that Manny is 28.

None. Getting 30 SB for a black hole everywhere else is counter-productive. I'd much rather get several guys that can get 10-20 and be able to hit as well.

Kaz Matsui

Only Ian Kinsler and Rickie Weeks have better speed ratings at 2B. Kinsler is a 1st/2nd rounder, and Ricky will absolutely kill you by batting .<.240. Sure, Matsui will almost surely spend 2-4 weeks on the DL sometime during the season. I think we could see almost 30 SBs along with 80+ runs out of him this season. Past hemorrhoid problems that were corrected prior to last season should be completely behind him.

Elvis Andrus

Another infield candidate for 25+ SBs, although I would only draft him as a backup MI. I think he is going to have a hard time hitting over .260 and might not hold the starting role for the entire season. He is going to be a liability in every other roto category. He's 3/3 this spring in attempts and Texas will keep running him if he can keep it up.

How do you expect him to get MI eligibility? Especially early in the year. He's certainly not playing 2nd with Brian Roberts there, and has never played SS.

It depends on your league's eligibility rules. Traditional roto one appearance should be no problem in April. 5 starts/10 games is dicier but probably he'll have MI and possibly 3B eligibility by Memorial Day. Roberts will need a day off now and again, Mora is 36 and Cesar Izturis isn't that good. The O's are planning to head north with a 13 man staff. Freel's prospects improve immensely if Chris Gomez and Jolbert Cabrera don't make the team.

Figgins may fall further this year because he is coming off an injury but should still put up 30+ steals and not hurt you in other categories. I think he will still go higher than he should, but if he falls far enough, could be a good value pick.

Michael Bourn bounces back and puts up decent averages he will be a steal in the later rounds.

Cameron Maybin should offer good speed and will be overlooked in many leagues.

I don't really see any other speedsters falling into the later rounds who would be worthwhile investments.

Emilio Bonifacio

Supa Sleepa
If he's batting leadoff as rumored to be dude could be money.
Big if as to whether he can keep the job. He hasn't exactly been a OBP machine and is only 7 for 12 as a Major League base stealer.
Hence........cheap.
This just in:
Emilio Bonifacio left Wednesday's game in the fourth inning with an undisclosed injury.

It was probably a bruised left hand, as he was hit there while bunting at a ball in the third. If it's something more than that, then maybe we can look forward to Andy Gonzalez and Wes Helms playing third base for the Marlins. Source: MLBlogs.com Apr. 1 - 3:43 pm et
I'm assuming this isn't a really really really esoteric April Fool's joke

Manny Burriss won the 2nd base job. He'll be good for some speed as long as he keeps the job.
 30+ SB Potential
Batting 8th?
:hifive:Is 20+ SB's going to help you much when he's not scoring runs, not batting guys in, not hitting home runs, and hitting for a modest average?I screwed up and got caught chasing steals a bit last year, that mistake was likely the difference between me finishing 3rd and me winning. The extra few points gained in SB's were more than offset by the points lost in other cats.

Usually I don't emphasize SB, I'm more likely to punt them completely. They asked for cheap speed, and Burriss isn't likely to cost much and is speedy.
