Cheating? (1 Viewer)

The commish of a keeper PPR league I'm in had to take over a team because of an owner problem. After a few weeks, he decides to initiate a trade between himself and the team he's running. He got Hakeem Nicks and gave up Brady and Cooley. Nicks, in his second year, is dominating the league. Brady is 33 years old, and this year is a marginal starter. Cooley is obviously just a guy.

Am I wrong for thinking that this is strait-up cheating?

NOt even close to cheating. What are you talking about? Brady and Cooley are both very solid players.

If he is trading with himself then something is very wrong. The players do not matter. You cannot be making trades with yourself.

Sorry I completely missed this part. You're right....this would be cheating. The trade itself doesn't seem unfair though.

Nobody should ever be allowed to have 2 teams in a league and if they do then trades cannot ever happen between the two teams. Period.........

Yup I agree. I misread the original post.

Yea it doesnt matter if its the fairest trade of all time. You cant have two teams in a league. I cant believe your league would even allow it

Yep, that would never fly in my league. He should only be able to make lineup decisions, and if he's playing himself, someone else should make the starting lineup. Trading with himself is out of the question.

Well it isn't end of the world if the commish takes over a team for some reason to keep the team and the league going. That said he should not be making trades with himself.

I'm the only one that seems to be up in arms. Anyway, I just offered S. Greene and Aaron Hernandez for Jamal Charles. Charles is on the unowned team. I figure he he's going to unload his marginal players for young studs, then I might as well try to get in on the action.

If he is running another team because an owner dropped out, that team should be suspended from trading with anyone until a new owner is found.

The commissioner trading with this team falls under "collusion", whether the trade is fair or not.

Agreed he can't trade with himself...actually though he should not be allowed to trade at all, otherwise he is at a disadvantage

The trade is fine in itself...the idea of trading with yourself is totally wrong though. Definitely throw a fit.

This is ludicrous. I would demand that the commish reverse the action. If he doesn't I'd get my money back and quit the league. Not only is the premise ridiculous, but the fact that it is a keeper league and he's going to get to keep Nicks for a great value next year makes this even worse. I'm annoyed that this happened and I'm not even in the league. Vote for a new commish.

I'd leave that league after this season. The commish 'taking over' the team in the first place is BS. If you need another owner, find one. Managing 2 teams in the same league is not acceptable. Then on top of that, he trades with himself? Your commish is a POS

Completely effed up. Demand that he reverse the trade and put in a no trade clause for the unowned team that will stay in effect until a new owner is found. If the commish does not agree to these stipulations, try to get the support of the league and demand that he relinquish his commish duties. If both options fail, do as another post said: demand a refund on your money and quite the league.

My best league is what I like to call a two fisted league where each of five owners runs two teams. The bright line rule is that our schedule never allows one team to play the other (and before we had schedule control, we had lineup rules for those weeks and for the playoffs) and importantly for this thread no trades between an owner's teams under any circumstances. Occasionally, waiver hi-jinks will occur, but waivers are special cases where in theory everybody has a say in what happens due to waiver rules.

I actually think it is a good idea to have a commissioner or another ethical owner in the league run an abandoned team unless a really good substitute owner can be found. League rules should specify that teams under control of one person can never trade and that, as suggested, lineup controls of some sort be put into effect for any match-ups. Sure, it's a disadvantage in theory. Yes, you still have to be careful about straw man trades. It's better than inserting some owner who might not work with the league chemistry in mid-season.

So who got the best of the trade the commissioner or the commissioner ? I say the commissioner but a case could be made for the commissioner. Allin all it is a pretty fair trade but the fact that the 2 owners are so closely related makes it collusion.

In the first year of my main league, two owners controlled 2 teams each so that we could have a league of 10. One of those guys had one team in the championship game, and during that week he waived Peyton Manning from his other team - since we were all noobs, no one else was really checking waivers, and suddenly Peyton was picked up by the would-be champ.

Of course the commish overturned that. Funnily, if that guy had been able to start Peyton he would have lost that championship game instead of winning.

If all of the other owners did this as well then the commisioner would be able to take control of all of the teams and make whatever trades he wants. He'd be sure to win the league.

Pretty sure all the owners are the commissioner and this league was just set up to take your money.
