2010 Player Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The Shark Pool is, in our view, the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things fantasy football. In what's become an annual tradition, the Player Spotlight series is a key part of the preseason efforts. As many of you know, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we plan to publish more than 140 offensive spotlights covering the vast majority of expected skill position starters.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways. 1) At the end of the week, we will tally the projections into a consensus. 2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Chester Taylor, RB, Chicago Bears

Player Page Link: Chester Taylor Player Page

Each article will include:

[*]Detailed viewpoint from a Footballguys staff member

[*]Highlighted member commentary from the message board threads

[*]FBG Projections

[*]Consensus Member Projections

The Rules

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

[*]Focus commentary on the player (or players) in question, and your expectations for said player (or players)

[*]Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"

[*]Avoid redundancies or  ... this should be about incremental analysis or debate

While not a requirement, we strongly encourage you to provide your own projections for the player (players):

Projections should include:

[*]For QBs: Attempts, Completions, Passing Yards, Passing TDs, Ints, Rush Attempts, Rush Yards, Rush TDs

[*]For RBs: Rushes, Rushing Yards, Rush TDs, Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

[*]For WRs & TEs: Receptions, Receiving Yards, Receiving TDs

Now let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Chester got lost in the shuffle and he really shouldn't be :lmao: Martz bears no allegiance to Forte and Forte hasn't exactly looked irreplaceable of late. I don't know that you bank on Taylor winning the job, but I don't think you rule it out either as the next month progresses. The one thing I don't think we'll see is much of a committee, and if we do, given how infrequently Martz runs the ball, it would make neither Forte or Taylor worth having in your lineup.

What thinks you?

I'm not thrilled by either. Both are good in the passing game that will be key in the new offense. I still feel Forte will be given a better chance because of his age...but chester is worth a late pick.

Lots of people are drafting Taylor as though he's a value pick who could be a starter over Forte. No one wants to make that case, or in the alternative argue against it?

CHI didn't sign Chester for that much money and not be a factor in the offense. He has shown in the past that he can be the workhorse and is a good receiver. But so is Forte, so this is one situation that is very unclear. My bet is Chester and Forte split time almost evenly. The 2 big questions will be 1) can CHI effectively run block and 2) who gets the goalline love?

160 carries, 660 yards, 4 TD

25 rec, 190 yards, 1 TD

Well worth his ADP of RB44. The shark move is to pass on Matt Forte and gamble on Chester. Chester has shown that he can put up decent RB2 numbers, so at this ADP it's nothing but upside.

Chester Taylor had 1500 yards from scrimmage a couple years ago. He has fresh legs. He is solid in pass protection. He can catch the ball well. At one time, Martz had the runaway #1 back in fantasy football, and while they are obviously very different backs, the possibility of a return to 1500 yards from scrimmage is there, and double digit combined touchdowns is a realistic goal if he can take over the starting job. He's a decent flier in redraft, but at 30, he's not an exciting dynasty prospect.
