Chicago Bears - NFC Championship Game Bound (1 Viewer)

May be it is just me but I didn't think the Bears 1st string offense looked all that good until the final drive of the 1st half and the Broncos defense is pretty bad.
Agree completely. Prior to the bears last drive the QB stats were: Cutler: 8/11 - 59 - 0/0 - 85.0 Orton: 12/16 - 96 - 0/0 - 89.58. Yes, the last drive looked good on paper but Goodman let an easy interception slip through his hands on the 2nd play of that drive. If Goodman hangs onto that ball Denver would have been 1st and 10 on the Chicago 11 yd line with 4:36 left in the 1st half and Cutlers stat line would have been at that point: 8/12 - 59 - 0/1 - 43.4 . Hardly the stuff of legends, especially against a 29th ranked defense. Cutler also got nice break with 00:37 left when he threw an incomplete pass and Dumerville takes a ridiculous roughing the passer penalty, so instead of being 2nd and 10 on the 30 they are 1st and 10 on the 15 yd line. Huge difference. This year Orton will eventually get Moreno and Marshall (yeah,I know) back, whereas Cutler was pretty much working with the best weapons he's going to have all year.In one of my dynasty leagues I have Cutler and Eli. Last year picking a starter was a no brainer, this year.........not so much.
  Regardless, Bear's fans will have no problem burying their heads in the sand.

The fact that he threw a ball that should have been a pick doesn't take away the fact that he led a drive with throws that Kyle Orton has never shown he can be trusted to make. Orton is the check down master even with open receivers down field. Cutler alters the entire outlook of the offense.

I never claimed Orton was better than Cutler... Just that expectations should be tempered by Bear's fans. Goodman hangs on to that INT, and everyone would be overreacting about how Cutler will be terrible, and the Bears gave up way too much. Preseason is funny like that. Warner has not thrown a single TD pass this preseason, are we to extrapolate that to regular season? Of course not.The Lions were 4-0 last preseason, and Matt Cassell struggled mightily.

Using "IF" logic always makes for a poor argument. People always love to make the IF argument, point out all the nice breaks the other guy got, but ignore the the breaks their guy got. Orton badly under threw Sheffler and it went to the CHI defender (I think Urlacher) but he dropped it. Luck is part of the game, Goodman not intercepting Cutler does not change that he lead an impressive 98 yard touchdown drive. What was interesting was that Cutler was able to perform in a tough spot. It's just plain silly that people are trying to spin this drive and this game as a negative thing. Try to spin it anyway you want but it is hard to ignore:
Code:
Completing 15 of 21 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown. leading the Bears on a 15-play, 98-yard drive that he capped with a 6-yard touchdown pass to running back Matt Forte.
is a good thing.

It is not like us fans don't know the Bear's offense and most fans have a pretty good idea of the QB Cutler is going to be. The expectations by Bears fans should be that Cutler will make some mistakes that Kyle Orton would not have even attempted. But he will also open up the deep ball, the 15-20 yard outs, deeper comebacks and various other routes pressing down the field that will open up the running game and the underneath passing game. The tackles should be a concern but Schaffer is a NFL starter on the bench so there is a safety net there. The defense played much better than everyone realizes last year without a lot of luck in the health department. An above average defense last year could improve if Harris is near healthy, Urlacher is healthy, and their secondary fields its best 4 for most of the year. And the special teams as always since Lovie will be a major strength. All of that gives the Bears a legit expectation of playoff contention and the possibility of advancing in the playoffs.

Sho nuff sounds like the idiot saying "I haven't seen Cutler look this uncomposed in a long time" or something like that after he avoided multiple sacks in the end zone. :lmao:
Thanks for the attempt. But where have I said anything even close to that?Maybe try not lying about what I said if you want to debate.Instead, you try and pick a fight based on a fabrication.Nothing new for you either.

The Bears may not even win thier division.Green Bay looks like the team to beat with that high octane offense and a defense which will be much better than the Bears' D.
Well... good thing the Bears know how to kick the Packers A**. :)Bears homer here.
They do?Last year they won after a blocked FG and got hammered the other game.
7-3 in the last 10 beetch1-0 in Superbowl appearances in the last 10 beetch :lmao:
About what I would expect from you.Care to venture a guess how much the rosters have changed since 5 years ago?

Sure:The Bears have added one of the best return men in a long time, a great rookie RB and TE last year, and a franchise QB this past off-season. Their defense has aged and slipped somewhat recently.Meanwhile, the Packers have changed to a 3-4 defense, switched to a QB who crumbles in the 4th quarter, and cut ties with a first ballot HOF QB.Close?

You were suggesting he was being "outplayed" by Kyle Orton, who was doing absolutely nothing. Or that you expected more from an offense that was only using part of its playbook and pinned inside the 10 half the time in a preseason game. In terms of stupidity, they are similar statements, which is what I was comparing. Not my fault you make stupid statements like this, nothing new for you either.

I don't have a dog in this race, but I think the Bears will finish third in the division. I can also say that there is no way that the Bears beat Seattle this September.
where's the game at?i like the home team in that one. although, i think the Bears are prolly a better team than the hawks, overall. so im not sure how theres no chance for them.
They are playing in Seattle. If they were to play in Chicago I could see the Bears winning.

Does Grid do this thread every year? It's fun if a homer does...I'm just askin'
He does, going back a ten years now to his time at the Huddle. He may still do it there for all I know.
:lmao: Shhh.... lol...I'm very optimistic about this season - the Bears FINALLY have a snowball's chance in a shootout, with a mobile quarterback no less. They really need to get Tillman and/or Bowman back and that D-line to step up the pressure. Without pressure from the front four, the Cover-2 defense is a pile of rubbish imho.Cutler, Forte and Olsen will be golden in fantasy football terms this season. Better to take a flyer on Cutler than take a flyer on Eddie Royal or Brandon Marshall imho.

You were also right about his lack of poise. Cutler has had some meltdowns this year.

Many thanks to Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels for the kid from Santa Claus, Indiana. It was Christmas in April throughout Chicago! Now that the Bears have a bonafide franchise QB, nobody will be stacking the line on Forte - and with no 'solid' WRs, it's no big problem - the Bears may have the best tandem of TEs in the league in Olsen/Clark.It's all good baby... the Bears are goin' to the NFC Championship Game this year! I just feel sorry for the team that they'll have to meet there.:popcorn:ciao ciaoThe Gridiron Assassin
