Yeah, but they Cubs weren't any good back then.Anybody get any tickets? I heard there were a few scatterd tickets still available, so I give it a look seeHOLY ####......$72.00($86.00 after city taxes) for a bleacher seat vs the Cardinals? I may be dating myself here, but I remember when you had to walk up to sit in the bleachers......and it was $4
I only go to their spring games anymore. Cheaper, love the weather in AZ in March, and tickets are easy to come by. Tickets sales this year are well down for them.I may go see them when they're in STL, but ticket prices there seem to have gone up quite a bit too.---------------------LOL @ Silva. ####### got a big head after pitching out of his mind the first half of the year. Glad they dumped his cancerous ###. Too early to just dump Carlos Pena too?Anybody get any tickets? Milton Bradley's hitting 3rd for Seattle.I know he is real young and I am not worried about it yet, but I wish Castro would fix his errant throws. He has everything else going for him, just needs to make the throw. I know it is going to be fixed, just would like it to be sooner than later. Also, Quade, quit hitting Marlon Bryd 3rd. I have a hard time coming up with a worse 3 hitter in baseball. Move that guy out of the middle of the order.

Walker hits 2nd for Pit. McCutchen has been hitting 3rd, Overbay 4th, Alvarez 5th, etc. Also, Walker will hit better than Byrd. He already matched Byrd's output as a rookie with 50 less games last season. In the one game McCutchen missed because of a sore neck. Announced attendance was 27K. There was, at most, 15K there today. It was like 1982 all over again.W

Randy Wells will go on the disabled list with a forearm strain.Just what the Cubs need. Wells tossed six innings of one-run ball in Monday's win over the Diamondbacks, so this certainly comes out of nowhere. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry stressed that the injury was to his forearm, not his elbow, but we're awaiting further about the severity. Casey Coleman is expected to fill one of the vacant rotation spots, but they still have to make a decision on the other.
Yikes.... Where's Carlos Silva when you need him?Andrew Cashner will go on the disabled list with a mild strain in the back of his rotator cuff.Cashner gave the Cubs a pretty good scare when he was forced to leave his first major league start Tuesday with right shoulder tightness. They'll obviously take every precaution here, though there's no current timetable for his return. The Cubs plan to call up Casey Coleman to take his spot in the starting rotation.
Cubs' SP has gone from a position of depth to scarcity in two weeks.Coleman has really unimpressive minor league K/IP numbers for people use that as a indicator of MLB success.Randy Wells will go on the disabled list with a forearm strain.Just what the Cubs need. And of course he whiffs on the 1st pitch of his second at bat and strikes out swinging.Including his first at bat today, Castro has swung the bat 35 times and hit the ball all 35 times. So, he has yet to miss a pitch when swinging. My initial impression of him continues to be affirmed, he is special with the bat in his hand.
Cubs hopefully will only need to fill 4-5 starts until the staff is healthy. Coleman isn't going until Sunday and the #5 isn't until Tuesday. Coleman just gets by but impresses the Cubs. He will need to keep the ball on the ground and over the plate to have any success.Cubs' SP has gone from a position of depth to scarcity in two weeks.Coleman has really unimpressive minor league K/IP numbers for people use that as a indicator of MLB success.Randy Wells will go on the disabled list with a forearm strain.Just what the Cubs need. These guys suck too. Not that the season was looking promising, but this might get ugly unless the top 3 guys pitch out of the butt.'Eephus said:James RussellJeff StevensThe Cubs couldn't find more generically named just-an-arm pitchers if they tried.
And the questions remains, who would have been better? The Rays paid Pena $10.25M last year. The Cubs are paying him $10M this year. What's the difference? Not overjoyed about Pena at 1st this year either. But what would you have wanted? LaRoche? I am guessing they had no chance at Gonzalez with the Padre knowledge of the Red Sox system and probably better prospects on top of it.I'm pretty bummed right now. Pena and Soriano could lead the NL in strikeouts by themselves. Awful signing.Give that $10 million to someone who will actually move a runner over instead of striking out or popping up in a key situation. I've just watched this guy play for several years in a row living in the Tampa area and he is a HUGE hole in any lineup. He has no plate discipline or count awareness. It's always an all or nothing at bat regardless of the game situation. This is yet another example why the Rays can field competitive teams year in and year out with low payrolls while the Cubs spend big and lose big every season. Idiots.

Pena is hitting .190 with 9 Ks in 21 at bats. Soriano hasn't been as bad. I've actually been fairly happy with his production. I saw the replies earlier, but figured I'd wait until the impending disaster that is Carlos Pena showed his capabilities to Cubs' fans. I would have worked Tyler Colvin out at 1st base. He needs to be getting daily at bats in the big leagues. The Rays were locked into a 3 year deal with him, and didn't make an offer for 2011. He was fairly productive in the first 2 years of that deal. They had to pay him in 2010. The Cubs didn't. $10 million dollars.Quade really needs to bat Soto or someone between Pena and Soriano every game. Watching the impending back to back strikeouts will get maddening. Also the confidence it might give pitchers knowing if they hit their spots they have easy outs for two straight run producing line up spots could snowball in many games.
The writing was on the wall with Pena. He's awful. Hopefully some of his pop ups end up in the seats when the wind starts blowing out.Offensively, no reason to defend him so far. But the Cubs would have an additional 4+ errors so far this season if Colvin was the everyday 1st base. I don't see the hype in Colvin. He is a 250 hitter who can hit 30 bombs with a OBP that will struggle to top 300. There is every reason to think that Pena would have better offensive output in the end and every reason to think Kosuke is just as strong of an option in right as Colvin. Add that to the defensive confidence he gives to Castro and Ramirez, the Cubs made the right move. They just can't hit Soriano after Pena. Soto needs to hit there to break up the obscene strikeout guys and give the Cubs another plus OBP guy higher in the order. As far as the future, Colvin will get a good enough number of at bats to develop into the #6 hitter that is his ceiling IMO.Not that the Rays are doing hot so far, but Pena was disgusting last year. I was shocked when the Cubs gave him 10 mil.

Nothing screams success like a 4 way tie for 1st place at 9-9. In fact, the Cubs haven't been more than a game away from 500 this season. Such impressive ability to cling to mediocrity has to be applauded.I think this is the year1ST PLACE
