Yeah. I think they realize they're going to be struggling for a couple more years. Quade was a decent minor league coach back in the day, IIRC. Sandberg was obviously the fans' choice, but he's never been a big personality guy. It would be like having Baines coach the Sox. I'd love them to get Girardi some time down the road. He and his wife are both Chicago natives and I wouldn't be surprised to see him taking the chance to settle down here.Quade was a baffling choice. IIRC there was speculation they might even go for the Yankees manager...but they needed to wait until the playoffs were done. They seemingly felt they had to sign Quade in a hurry. It was a bit of a surprise. In fairness it's not like the Cubs are loaded with stars and young studs.
Can't believe they played that game. And from the sound of it, the Fox announcers couldn't believe it either. They sounded pretty pissed.'Encyclopedia Brown said:The game tonight is nationally televised on FOX.
Seven unearned runs. You have to work really hard to give up seven unearned runs.I can't watch anymore
outside of defense (plays 1B, easiest def pos. IMO) he might be one of the worst hitters i have ever seen. complete disregard for situation. my hatred has been growing since opening day. its maddening watching this guy strike out horribly w/ 2 guys on and no outs. pretty sure he swings w/ his eyes closed. Is it just a matter of suck or has he done something?
Yeah, like Soriano, it is all about the approach. Both are completely useless unless a pitcher makes a huge mistake. And no adjustments are ever made.outside of defense (plays 1B, easiest def pos. i will blow a huuuge wad all over fielderAt least Pena is signed to a one year deal. You guys can blow your wad on Pujols or Fielder next season.
Monopoly money?being the cubs fan and the eternal optimist, i want the cubs to somehow get ahold of wright from NY and sign Fielder. then maybe ill start going to games again.
Yes they did. Quade is brilliant. I can't believe they actually did this. How stupid can you be? I know the cubs weren't going to be good no matter what, but hiring Quade is not looking good.Did you guys really just pitch to Pujols not once but TWICE in extra innings?![]()
hey, lay off me. i was daydreaming.Monopoly money?being the cubs fan and the eternal optimist, i want the cubs to somehow get ahold of wright from NY and sign Fielder. then maybe ill start going to games again.
Not overjoyed about Pena at 1st this year either. But what would you have wanted? LaRoche? I am guessing they had no chance at Gonzalez with the Padre knowledge of the Red Sox system and probably better prospects on top of it.I'm pretty bummed right now. Pena and Soriano could lead the NL in strikeouts by themselves. Awful signing.
Give that $10 million to someone who will actually move a runner over instead of striking out or popping up in a key situation. I've just watched this guy play for several years in a row living in the Tampa area and he is a HUGE hole in any lineup. He has no plate discipline or count awareness. It's always an all or nothing at bat regardless of the game situation. This is yet another example why the Rays can field competitive teams year in and year out with low payrolls while the Cubs spend big and lose big every season. Idiots.
carlos pena is a joke.

I still think he was a decent enough signing given what was available. For those that think Colvin should have played 1st, I just don't see a great future for him. He is a Soriano clone with a much longer swing and far less speed. He has saved Barney and Castro a bunch of errors and probably have helped their confidence tremendously. It doesn't make it any less infuriating when he so often looks like he had no chance at the plate.Carlos Pena has a .900 OPS since the start of May.
Too bad for him. Probably had a great future ahead of him. Too bad the cubs will find a way to screw him up.I hate this damn team. So frustrating.Javier Baez- SS who most scouts think will be a 3B (will grow and lose range)- Fastest bat in the draft- Good defensive tools- Plus raw power- Explosive attitude
The Cubs lead the world in errors anyway. It's the lack of situational hitting that drives me nuts. Maybe there weren't other options? I don't know, but I'm sure they could have found someone to play first base that'd manage a ground ball to second with a RISP and less than two outs. Especially for $10 million. It's not my money, but I would have loved to see someone cheap over there this year, and then make a run at some good players in 2012.I guess it doesn't matter. This team is a joke. :losinghope:I still think he was a decent enough signing given what was available. For those that think Colvin should have played 1st, I just don't see a great future for him. You have a singles hitter batting 3rd. Starting right there, you're throwing the concept of situational hitting out the window. The team is pathetic. Early on, I was excited about a season of watching Castro and Marmol, but they've both been driving me nuts lately. I'm still tuning in, but I find myself watching the Sox game and only switching over to check on the Cubs when there's a break in the action. He wasn't/isn't wrongThis team is horrendous. You have a singles hitter batting 3rd. WHAT ARE YOU DOING????pretty sure you just jinxed the WDoug Davis baffles the Yankees. Was not expecting that.
I'm a bit surprised Castro hasn't gotten more love in the all-star balloting.
In a national league that has Reyes, Tulo, Rollins, and Hanley?gonna be tough to make an all star team for a long time unelss a couple get moved to the AL (reyes, hanley)I'm a bit surprised Castro hasn't gotten more love in the all-star balloting. In a national league that has Reyes, Tulo, Rollins, and Hanley?
Castro is having a much better season than Hanley. Offensively he is the 3rd best SS in the NL. Defensively, he could be the worst. Not that the All Star game cares about that stuff.I'm a bit surprised Castro hasn't gotten more love in the all-star balloting. In a national league that has Reyes, Tulo, Rollins, and Hanley?
That was a fun game to watch...That lefty kid made a great catch in the of today. At least I picked the right game to go to. Four home runs, three doubles, and a triple. Ramirez with his best game of the year in the field and at the plate.

They're actually running promos to get people into the bleachersMonday through Wednesday games, depending on the night they're giving away T-shirts, selling cheaper beer or hot dogs.Last year I decided to boycott the Cubs until Hendry is fired so I haven't been watching many games. I saw the highlights on ESPN tonight and was shocked to see so much open bleacher space on a warm, sunny, summer day. Has it been that bad??
