Chicago weather for Sunday. (1 Viewer)

The weather for Sunday's game is hard to get a feel for depending on the weather service you use. It looks like it could be pretty cold and windy. Anyone in the area have an opinion?

 
I live 40 miles north of Chicago and it is supposed to be in the mid to upper 20's with wind in the 15 mph range. Not too bad of conditions, though winds tend to swirl off the lake this time of year into Soldier Field.

Skilling is a good weatherman and reliable. If the winds get into the 20s and swirl off the lake it is a WHOLE new ballgame there. Then it may be time to look at different kickers.
 
How is Mason in the wind?

On one hand I have a great alternative but 6 xp's from Gostowski wouldn't exactly be a great day.

Skilling is a good weatherman and reliable. If the winds get into the 20s and swirl off the lake it is a WHOLE new ballgame there. Then it may be time to look at different kickers.

You seem to know alot about this. How would that situation affect Green Bay's passing game. I know Favre is a cold weather QB, but I would think high wind and possible snow would be bad. Correct?
 
rain changing to snow saturday, possibly carrying over to sunday. No matter what the weather forcast is, the field announcer will say chance of snow in his announcement, just to rile the crowd up.

Skilling is an alarmist and a flim-flam man. He wants everyone to think the weather is more important than it is. Sunday will be cold, about average for Chicago this time of year. However, it's going to be in the 40's for the next two days, there's plenty of snow to melt so the field could get icy.

The latest I see is little chance for snow on Sunday, but it will be cold and breezy. I think the offenses will be ok.
 
Is it me or has the weather forecast gotten worse since yesterday.

Yesterday, they said the chance of precipitation was only 10%. Today, it's up to 80%.

What are you locals hearing??

 
Heard that Saturday night was going to be foggy and drizzle and then it drops. Sunday it is supposed to be cold and blustery w flurries. In Chicago that will mean cold and windy. More than likely windchills well below freezing. Black and blue division game old school real man football weather. You hear that Lions and Vikings?

The updated forcast as of 7:00am this morning calls for some snow showers on Saturday and then turning much colder overnight. Sunday has a forecast for a 20% chance of some snow showers, but very windy and high's in the 20's. The -5 you saw may be the projected wind chill due to the high winds and cold temperatures.

In those conditions, how do you feel about Green Bay's passing attack?If the weather's that bad, I don't see any more than a 13-10 type ballgame. Like you said, old school, black and blue division, football. My gut tells me to stay away from either team's WRs in this game. What do you think??
 
Most of the passes they throw are under 10 yards, and Driver/Jones (even Jennings, really) don't necessarily need a fast track to get open. I think they CAN pass, though it makes sense to call another run-heavy game. Personally, I'd like to see the Packers run some no-huddle or throw in other wrinkles to give playoff opponents something to think about. The Bears will probably try something crazy. Of course they've been running the no-huddle, but I also would expect them to throw it more than GB this week. My main concern is for bad muscle pulls to happen in that weather. Don't want any of those.

I am playing Jennings. Favre plays extremely well in Chicago and they owe the Bears a beating plus they have to keep pace with the Cowboys. I recall that Halloween game a dozen years ago when the Bears were wearing those throwbacks and he just lit them up. It was raining sideways and it was about 35 out there with 30 MPH winds....
 
I have no choice but to go with Favre...I could start A. Gonzalez over Jennings....but probably won't.

I will be starting the Packers D for sure with these conditions...was going with TB...but looking at the fumbles, sacks, and INTs that the Bears offense gives up...and knowing Orton is the QB...Im rolling with the Pack.

Have gone with Crosby all year, but I think I am sitting him for Bryant (TB) against San Fran.

Im considering the same with Jennings and A. Gonz.But there is something pushing me to start Jennings....the guy Im playing against dropped him in week 2 for some chump...and I snatched him up.
 
Someone asked about Crosby specifically. I have not been impressed with him in bad conditions. Then again, Lambeau is a terrible place to kick, so that might be skewing my opinion. I always believe you have to bench kickers in crappy conditions though. It's just too hard to know how they'll perform. A windy Soldier Field? I'll find a different kicker.

Wow, are you serious? The exact same situation here. PLUS the guy is a Packer fan so it will really burn him up. But I am playing to win here and for some reason, my gut tells me that he is in for a very average game. Both A. Gonz and S. Smith are at home as well.
 
Updated Tom Skilling: Snowy, colder, blustery west winds 30 mph +. Additional snow accumulation possible along with falling temperatures and single digit wind chills. 26 for a high 5 for a low.

 
Snow, wind chill -2, 19 degrees with winds of 23 from the south. Crosby played in Colorado but looks bad for kickers.

 
Looks like I'll have some perfect Packer-Bear whether at Soldier on Sunday.

note for other Packer fans: Tickets seem to be plentiful as the Chicago faithful is predictably jumping ship.

 
with 1300 in winnings on the line, the baseball-like lump in my throat over thought of having to replace Favre with KITNA doesn't bode well..... If Brady and his weapons couldn't muster any explosiveness last week, I don't think Favre can either.

I'd stay away from Crosby, but I don't think I would shy away from Favre, Driver, Jennings, et al. so quickly. People tend to immediately shun an offense in bad weather, but sometimes that is also an opportunity. As stated earlier, the Packers passing attack (minus the occasional TD bomb to Jennings) relies on short patterns and slants. A DB slips or falls and it's off to the races. Even a slip or fall when Jennings goes deep could create an opportunity and we know Favre isn't opposed to tossing it up there.

 
Any updates? I need to decide on some things and a swirling wind will definitely make me think twice about playing Crosby.

Skillings long term forcast for Sunday appears to be right on. This is the strongest gustiest wind in Chicago area in a while. One of my Christmas decoration deers was blown over for the first time. It is 17 degrees outside so i would imagine it will be in the low 20's at gametime. Currently very light flurries. Its not a steady wind its a wind that is gusting in spurts and I think the long passing game will be pretty much eliminated with this unpredictable wind.

I have Donald Lee going today. With the logic that the long passing will be elimated, anybody think that Lee would be a good start? My other "option" is Owen Daniels.

Today: A 40 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 21. Breezy, with a west southwest wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

 
Don't want to be too scary, but I saw a tree snapped off up the street when I took the dog out. It's nice and sunny but very windy. I've never thrown a pass with Brett Favre's arm so I can't say how much this will affect things -- I've seen it worse conditions. It would definitely affect your golf game. It's 20F colder than yesterday and the snow is television snow -- you can see it falling through the air but it's not going to accumulate. It's ten-to-nine central.

Thank you for the local update, much appreciated. Just wondering what people are doing if they have one of these kickers going (Crosby/Gould), if you have the option of making a waiver move. I assume extra points and chip-shot FGs should be OK?, but anything further out might be problematic.

I would definitely pick up any dome kicker on a decent offense that is available.

I benched Crosby going with Vinatieri
 
I wouldn't say no to a nice 76-yard screen pass for a TD for us Favre owners.

It'll look just like ol' Dorsey Levens (also #25) streaking down the field back in the day.

I live 40 minutes West of Soldier Field and it is howling out, but I still think Favre and the Pack will rip the Bears today. After benching Gostkowski last week due to a weather freak out and losing because of that move, I'm not sure I'm a believer in weather related benchings anymore.

This will be one of the windiest games ever at soldier field unless it lets up. I've seen worse weather but not much windier than this.
