CHIEFS...Are they the worst organization? (1 Viewer)

Are they the worst at how they treat their players? They did not work well with Trent Green, They gave Priest Holmes problems with his contract way back and now they are openly saying he won't be their man, they were trying to jerk around with the Bowe signing, and not to mention the LJ situation. Also they screwed up the Dante Hall trade and don't have a sure starting QB. Can they screw up anything else?

(The Detroit Lions don't count!)

They've averaged over 9 wins per season for the last 5 years. You might accuse them of being mediocre, but certainly not bad.

- I thought they made out like a bandit in the Dante Hall trade, I think they were going to release him.- I wouldn't give LJ the $ either... it just won't make them a superbowl contender and the signing bonus will only hinder them building one. Also, too many good backups around the league that won't cost nearly as much next season.- With the success KC has had choosing young WR's I wouldn't give Bowe much until he earned it on the field either. Big contracts to rookie WR's never make sense to me.- Herm Edwards was a good hire and will lead a younger/better/improving Chiefs into the playoffs in '08. For all the fantasy production credited to Vermiel he never won a playoff game in KC. Edwards will win a playoff game before he leaves unless the fans/franchise blame him for the inevitable rebuilding project going on right now.... BUT...- you are also forgetting to slam Peterson for his handling of the Gonzales contract situation a few seasons ago. Gonzales is a great community guy, blocks better than any of the other top receiving TE's, was the face of the franchise and just entering his prime at the time. When you have a guy like that just give him his $ already.

If you lump in how they treat their coaches and other staff as well as the players, the Raiders have got to be in the thick of this argument.

For the most part this is good post. The part I would disagree with is what you said about not paying LJ. Why would paying LJ have to result in being a SB contender? If what you say is true in that they need to rebuild then why would losing their best player be a step in the right direction? You get better with good players and LJ is their best player right now along with Gonzo. The signing bonus will not hinder them. Not with the cap situation opening things up now for the next few years. As for relying on back ups? There's a reason they're called back ups. Turner may be the exception here but if you think he's willing to play for peanuts then I would argue that too. Back ups will not help them rebuild. That would only hinder the process.

Anyone catch the Hard Knocks show covering the Cheifs on HBO? It airs Wednesdays at 10am, but I'm sure you can catch it at other times.

FYI, the Cheifs do their training camp further away from home(500 miles) than any other team. GM seems like a pretty popular guy and the players "seemed" happy.

Here's a list of KC's good players....LJ(28)Kennison(34)Gonzales(31)Waters(30)Wiegmann(34)Welbourne(31)Allen(25)Hali(24)Johnson(25)Edwards(34)Law(33)Surtain(31)Page(23)Pollard(23)... and imo KC is at least two years from being a legit SB contender. The only players on that list that will still be playing at the level they are now or better in two years are...AllenHaliJohnsonPagePollard.... and that's a ton of key players to replace in two drafts and FA periods. Sure they can pay LJ a ton of $ and Herm will give him 800 more carries over the next two years but will that really get them closer to their goal? LJ will be 30 with 1200 carries over the past three seasons(assuming he lives through the workload) and at that point I'm not even sure he's the same back as he is now. There are a lot of RBBC's around the league right now and if you grab one of the guys you have the $ to replace a lot of those key positions.

It's not bad. I think it will have to grow on me. THe Ravens one was the best.

You forget to mention overpaying for a head coach who isn't that good.
This is such an understatement; I had to help:Who is the WORST coach in the league. And if you don't think so, just go check out that stellar game plan against the Colts last year.

I have to help now. This is a completely idiot post. The guy took them to the playoffs in his first year as the head coach and lost to the Super Bowl Champions. Yes the game plan was bad in the playoffs but he is no where near the WORST coach in the league. He also won 2 playoff games with the Jets and took them to the post season 3 out of his 5 years there.

If I agreed with you on this (Some ways I do and some I don't) I would still question the wisdom in suggesting that getting rid of a franchise back for a worthless RBBC as being some sort of building block. Not sure I think they're that far away that a total rebuild is inorder. D will be stronger. Via draft and FA some offensive players can be found to make them more effective. Not saying they actually do that but it could happen. :link: They have made their intentions clear in that they are going with a strong D and running game to build this team around. If true then LJ is an important piece, not a throw away.

Herminator has finished decimating the team. Give him time. As bad as he is, it takes him time to destroy a passing game and a running game. He's almost there.

there are 10 other AFC teams who would have loved to trade places with them last year.....including the 3-4 that could have won their last game and avanced into the playoffs instead of the Chiefs.....including the Broncos at home against SF....Cincy....Tenn....and I think somebody else.....

the Chiefs played pretty hard last year prior to getting blown out by the SB champs.....for Herm to even get that team to the playoffs I thought was pretty impressive especially after Green's injury......

IMO they seem to do the most with the least amount of talent as most any team in the league....I give Herm some credit for that.....

I agree it always seems they have some trouble with contract negotiations, but come Sunday they are usually pretty competitive......given their fairly consistent level of competing on Sundays, I think the answer to the question has to be no.....they are not the worst organization, because if they were at some point it would have to reflect on what happens on the field.....and on the field they are pretty competitive.....
