Chiefs at Chargers (1 Viewer)

I wonder how many Charger fans want to see the Chargers win, versus how many would like to see them lose to hasten a Norv and/or AJ firing.
IMO you can't truly be a fan and hope for a loss. This applies to all fans, not just Chargers fans.
Disagree if it helps your team in the long run I would root against
I'll never root for a loss.
excellent post.
So you are telling me Chargers fans have liked the fact that Turner has won just enough to stay as head coach, or if they had a 1 - 15 season they could have been rid of him 2 or 3 years ago and not wasted all the talent they have had.
Who said this?I am a Chargers fan. I thought A.J. Smith and Norv Turner should have both been fired after last season. Neither was fired. That is out of my control as a fan. Are you saying you think I should want the Chargers to lose every game until Smith and/or Turner are fired? Are you the fan of a particular team? Are you saying you would react the same way if your team was struggling?
I've never "wanted" the Texans to lose. But if it took finishing out their 2-14 season in that fashion to make the owner realize Casserly and Capers were running the team into the ground, I was willing to put up with a couple more losses at the end of the year rather than see some meaningless 3 game winning streak buy the front office another year.
That's different though. The Chargers have a shot at winning the division and the AFC is wide open this year. If they are 5-10 heading into Week 17, sure it helps in the long run to lose and move up a couple spots in the draft. But until the playoffs are no longer a possibility, it's silly to root for a loss.
They have no chance against the Pats, Baltimore, Texans, or Broncos
Right. Because they weren't beating Denver by 24 at halftime of that game, and Houston/New England didn't almost lose to the Jets, and Baltimore didn't get blown out by Houston. It's the NFL dude -- anybody has a shot against anybody. Nobody was picking the Giants to win the Super Bowl either of their Super Bowl seasons either. Just have to peak at the right time. This team has talent.

The Chargers loses three straight, two of which to teams that had 1 win at the time, the Saints and THE BROWNS. Then they beat a team that has not held a lead in regulation and who's only win comes against a team that has beaten the Chargers. Lots of talent there. Too bad Norv is almost as good at wasting talent as he is avoiding getting fired.

Imagine being a Colts fan. You have a rotten season...and draft Peyton Manning. After a great run, he's hurt and you suffer through another awful season. That nets you Andrew Luck.Tell me Colts' fans aren't glad they lost just enough to secure those picks. Imagine if a couple extra wins got them Ryan Leaf or just a top five pick in 2012. Teams like Kansas City never seem to draft good QB talent, as they relayed that stat tonight about the last KC drafted QB to lead them to a win was Todd Blackledge a quarter century ago. Meanwhile, Indy suffered through two bad seasons and ended up with one gem and a really great prospect. If you're a Colts fan, you're happy they lost those games-- and I bet a few of them were rooting for losses last season to secure Luck.Long story short(er): Yeah, sometimes it makes sense to absorb short-term losses for big long-term gains. And believe me: No Norv is a long term gain in San Diego.

Late into last season, when Peterson blew out his knee in a meaningless game against the Skins, do you think Vikings fan really cared about that game? I guess some did but I would be ok with the team sitting him in what is essentially an expedition game.

Once you know this year is lost, its time to start thinking about next year. Unless I guess you're a coach/gm that might not be there next year

I'm convinced some QBs just get thrown into bad systems. Aaron Rodgers was able to step right into the Offense after Brett Favre. Matt Flynn looked pretty good in it, too.

Houston, another great team that seems able to plug and play Quarterbacks. The Eagles have made various QBs look decent over the years.

Meanwhile, you've got revolving doors on Offense on teams like the Bears and the Bills. Surprise, surprise, maybe it isn't your Quarterback that sucks. Maybe your offensive scheme just blows.

Yeah, because look at all the success JP Losman and Trent Edwards have had everywhere else they've been. Or why nobody else wanted Ryan Fitzpatrick. I mean, yeah, **** Jauron's offenses were overly conservative and kind of sucked, but Losman and Edwards sucked just as bad.

Exactly all those ifs and almosts. The Giants also don't have a noodle armed quarterback, a defensive line that is dominate, and to top it off their head coach isn't a moron

We fired Marty after a 14-2 season. Dean cares about post season success. If we don't have success this post season he is gone. Easy as that.
he is 3 - 3 in the post season and only made it there 3 times in his 6 years
Ummmmmm, there is only one head coach that has won his division more than 3 times in the past 5 years. I'm of the opinion that Turner's time is up in SD, but you're logic isn't helping that argument in least.

You do realize the Chargers were 13-3 three years ago? With a +134 point differential? Nevermind, I see a pattern developing in your posts.

Wade Phillips once went 13-3 with the Dallas Cowboys. And he, like Norv, is a better coordinator than head coach.

Personally, I've always felt that was a complete cop out in this age of specialization. How much input do you honestly believe Norv has on the defense? Right now the Charger defense is better than the offense and I don't think Norv deserves any of the credit for that. He was brought in to develop Rivers and allow a successful offense to continue to be successful. He's pretty much been an offensive coordinator his entire time in SD.As for Phillips, I'd wager most Bills fans wish they still had a coordinator instead of the head coaches they've been using since his departure from BUF. They haven't been relevant since he left. For that matter in the last 15 years the Cowboys best two seasons were with Wade Phillips as head coach.
