Chris Cooley flying under the radar (1 Viewer)

This guy is still available in about 15% of leagues which I find amazing.

He easily could be one of the top 3 Tight Ends this year. 1000 yards and 7 Td's is a very reasonable projection for him.

Reasons:

-he is 100% healthy and Fred Davis is back to the blocking TE role.

-he has developed a great rapport with Mcnabb ever since training camp.

-McNabb has always relied on TE's. Look no further than Celek last year

- Kyle Shanahan's offense has always made the TE a key focal point(Owen Daniels).

- The Redskins don't have a lot of good receiving options it is basically him and Moss

He was targeted 9 times in week one making 6 catches for 80 yards.

The guy is still being way undervalued at this point. In 2008 he had 83 catches and 843 yards.

I would say the only concern about him is that Fred Davis may vulture some TD's but even that is a unknown at this point.

This week he is a very good matchup vs Houston who have some LB issues and are vunerable vs Tight Ends.

I agree. I'm surprised people were so down on him. Yes Davis did well last season but Cooley is a top talent. Plus, he's easily the most dependable receiver the Redskins have and McNabb has never shied away from utilizing his TE. I was very happy to get Cooley late in my draft and was very encouraged by what I saw in Week 1.

Thank you for posting this.

I have been thinking the same thing and just traded Celek to get Cooley.

McNabb has Moss and Cooley as regular targets, that's it.

Here's part of what I had mentioned in the Cooley Player Spotlight and Faceoff articles from over the summer . . .

Cooley was riding a streak of four straight Top 10 fantasy seasons before getting hurt last year. But things have changed in our nation's capital. Donovan McNabb is now the quarterback . . . and he produced five seasons with a Top 10 tight end. Mike Shanahan is now the head coach . . . and as a head coach or an offensive coordinater, he's produced 13 seasons with a Top 10 fantasy tight end.
Blending the team, the QB, and the coach, the sitiation showed a lot of promise for Cooley to be in for another solid season. My initial concern for him was if he would enter the season healthy (at the time it was months before the season would start).

I actually had him on my roster as backup to JerMichael Finley.

I just dropped him to make a roster spot and I'm surprised to see no one has picked him up yet! Coulda easily traded for a backup WR...

I picked him up as my backup TE with Celek being my TE1. Needless to say I'm definitely rolling with Cooley this week.

Considering trying to move Witten for him IF the Week 1 trending continues.

I'm not happy with Dallas' OL, nor their ability to spread to two top-notch WRs. And it even appears that Roy Williams will get in on that action.

Mcnabb loves his TE's. Im actually rolling with Cooley as my flex and Celek as my TE. It worked Week 1...
Just curious, what other wr's are you starting Celek over in the flex spot?
well long story short, draft was held before sidney was ruled out for half the season. so i snagged rice like 6th-7th rd thinking i got a steal. so, my starting wr's are garcon bmarsh and nicks with sidney on my injured list. but to answer your question, i am starting those 2 guys over lloyd maroney nate wash chambers and ringer...

Agreed. It's looking like a two-man Moss & Cooley show in Washington, although in the red zone they're also giving some looks to Fred Davis Anthony Armstrong.

That's cool. I have capable receivers (Naanee, Royal, Amedola, Celek) on my bench that I've been plugging into the lineup flex spot all day but can't make a final decision as of yet.

My only concern is how Vick uses Celek but he did catch 2 balls for like 40 yds 2nd half. I would do a coin flip between Celek, Royal, and Legedu. All decent options for you

As a Cooley dynasty owner I was starting to panic in the off season. But started to notice some trends in his favor.

Current Redskin OC Shanny Jr. was the Texans OC last year and had Daniels as a top TE before being injured

McNabb is a QB upgrade and he loves to throw to the TE

Cooley is still a top TE talent and Davis would have a role but go back to being a back up

Who else are they going to throw to other than Moss

After all of this I grabbed Cooley as a very cheap TE#1 in redraft also

I drafted Z. Miller as my TE with no backup. I snatched Cooley off the wire after week 1, but I really don't have the room to hold 2 TEs. Hopefully one of these guys starts going off in a big way so I can dump the other.

I drafted Cooley in what amounts to round 11 in my keeper league as my TE1 and was very pleased he was there. With the very last pick of the draft, in round 18, I selected Tony Moeaki as my TE2. I believe Cooley will finish in the top 6 of TE's this year.....for various reasons, all of which have been posted already. (McNabb, OC, not much else to toss the rock to in Washington, solid running game.)
