Chris Johnson really is stupid (1 Viewer)

One day after finishing second in the Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, Titans running back Chris Johnson lashed out against the selection process, calling "the whole thing bogus."

Johnson said his football peers and fans should select the winner of the annual award, not a panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league.

He added that since he received more votes to the Pro Bowl than any rookie and was the lone first-year player elected to the Pro Bowl, he should have won the award over Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan.

Johnson rushed for 1,228 yards and nine touchdowns, helping the Titans win the AFC South and earn the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

"I did all I could do to win it," he said. "I feel like I did the best."

Edit: The word that got blocked wasn't really a bad word.

Ryan collected 44 votes, Johnson three. Johnson praised Ryan for what he accomplished, leading the Falcons recovering from the Michael Vick era back to the playoffs. Ryan passed for 3,440 yards with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Johnson said Ryan should have finished in a three-way tie for second with Bears running back Matt Forte and Texans running back Steve Slaton.

While Johnson talked about the award in the locker room, tight end Bo Scaife walked by and said: "He was robbed. … We need a recount!"
To get a true feel of how stupid he is you actually have to see him attempting to speak English while expressing his thoughts. Even without that though, the idea that he was more deserving than Ryan and got robbed is pretty #######' stupid and the "logic" he uses to support it is flat-out moronic. For Pete's sakes, Forte and Slaton both had more yards than CJ and Forte had more TDs.

Why does any of this imply stupidity? His logic is that he did better than Ryan.
So we know he uses faulty logic. Whether or not that means he's stupid is arguable i suppose.
So maybe stupid was a poor choice of words, but he wasn't even the best RB that didn't get the award. Forte should have (and may have) gotten MVP consideration as far as I'm concerned. Ryan plays a tougher position and as a rookie took a team to the playoffs that wasn't expected to win 5 games. Mr. Johnson doesn't seem like the brightest bulb in the box after this little episode. He really should keep his mouth shut and focus on the playoffs.

I guess the word "stupid" settled in my mind after seeing the video on ESPN of Johnson actually talking. Just reading the article probably doesn't do justice to how stupid he sounds.

It is kind of stupid to be whining about the award though. What could he possible accomplish other than making himself look like a donkey?

Was a huuuuuuge Chris Johnson fan early in the season. However, I've become less and less of a fan the more I've heard him talk and act as the year has progressed. He certainly didn't do himself any favors with this interview and "stupid" would be a kind descriptive of it IMO.

One of the worst was when him and fatty were at the podium looking like a couple of thugs. Johnson is quickly proving himself to be a bit of a joke and teaming him up with White only seems to make it all worse.I think they need to get the fat kid with the bad attitude away from Johnson as quickly as possible so it stops rubbing off.

I'm not saying he should have won the award, and it's difficult to defend anyone talking about an individual award while their TEAM is still in the playoffs contending for a SB..... but he's right. Sports writers/broadcasters should have no say in anything. Ever. They have all year to spout their slanted gibberish, they don't need to have the ability to give out awards to their favorites on top of it.For the record I think Ryan deserved it.

I have no problem for the runner up to let off some steam for an award he thought he should have won. Everyone I know who has lost a major award does this.

Johnson has only had a few days to get the stress out.

Now if he's still talking it up 3 years later, he should just get over it.

Much like the Thomas Jones stuff, who cares?
Why not? Maybe you own Chris Johnson and want to start figuring out if he has some Plaxico Burress in him. Maybe you just like to read what athletes have to say and then laugh at the ones that are stupid. Maybe you are a Titan fan and disappointed that the team has a doosh at RB. Maybe you have off on a Friday and nothing better to do.

This is where I am at. he's young, and young guys don't play the media game right. no big deal.

:nerd: Bunch of babies in this thread

Ryan ROTY without a doubt. Johnson did get 1 vote for MVP and whoever gave him that vote should never be allowed to vote again. He was 3rd in rookie rushing.

There are pretty good arguments that he wasn't even the best of the rookie RB's this year. Much less ROTY.

Be happy with your pro-bowl berth CJ, you should be very proud since rookies rarely ever get in.

Plus he wasn't the clear cut #1 RB on his own team? :lmao:

Outstanding rookie season for a RB = common.

Outstanding rookie season for a QB = rare.

I guess it would help if Johnson actually knew something about football apart from how to run with one.

Really? :homer: The guy is far from smooth and Fisher should reign him in from the media, but he's not that bad a guy, comparatively.

CJ3 was a key reason the Titans got the 1 seed, Ryan was a key reason the Falcons got into the playoffs. I don't blame the guy for thinking he should have won an award and trying to find an objective reason. Even if he is wrong.

For the record, Titans fan and C3 owner, so I am biased.

Just watched him interviewed on the sidelines of the Liberty Bowl and I don't care if he's reading out loud from Aeschylus, the Bible, the phonebook, advanced biothermic geology or whatever...the dude sounds like the biggest idiot in the world. He sounds like Mos def's character in 16 Blocks but stoned and on nitrous.

How did he get into College?.. better yet how did he graduate High School? That is terrible.

Edit: I am also talking about the Liberty Bowl.

That. Was. Awesome. He's a very lucky kid, because if that kid wasn't good at football................

I agree with peers, not fans.

The peers really don't do any better. They'll vote for friends or guys they went to school with. Even when they try to it legit in the Pro Bowl voting they only really know about the guys they played against. They vote on name recognition as often as the fans do.Even though a lot sports writers know surprisingly little about the sports the cover, they still are the best bet for a decent vote.

Although Ryan deserved it, the voting should of been a lot closer between Ryan, Johnson, Slaton and Forte then 43 of 50 votes going to Ryan, i though that was a little ridiculous how much of a landslide it was.

That was the best series of the game.

yeah, he's a talented idiot. i mean, a rookie QB doing as well as Ryan, and a rookie RB doing as well as Johnson, come on! QB is so much harder than RB, especially for a rookie. in fact, i'd argue that the position of NFL QB is the hardest position to master in pro sports. RB's can plug right in and run the ball. sure you gotta block, and learn the playbook. but the QB runs the offense every play. also, he shared time in the backfield. what Ryan did is a hundred times more impressive.

I think all the thoughts about Ryan winning because he was a QB are misguided. He didn't win because it's tough for a rookie QB to play well or because it is so rare that they succeed. He run because he was a better football player as a QB than Johnson was as a RB.

It's much tougher for a QB to win a ROY award than a RB.

see my above post. rookie RB's can plug and play. if they are good, they adapt pretty quickly. QB's have much more responsibility, and pressure. the learning curve is much higher. for a rook RB to win this award they need to have a ridiculous year, especially with the year Ryan had.

thats my point. it's much more impressive to have a stellar rookie season as a QB than a RB, imo.

I just don't know about this part. How do you judge that?Ryan was #11 in QB rating, #17 in completion %, #4 in AY/A

CJ3 was #4 in Y/A, #8 in yardage, #8 in Y/G

Both were darn good, phenomenal for rookies, which is why Ryan was the proper winner, but I don't know that I'd say Ryan was the better football player if we compare them amongst the veterans at their positions.

If anything I think this is a positive reflection on CJ. <_<

He set a goal, felt he did what was needed, didn't get the votes, and is pissed. It shows he is competitive... OH NO!

He didn't bash anyone, gave Ryan his due, along with Forte and Slaton. So what.

um, ok. this shows he's a poor sport. he shouldn't say a ####ing thing, except congrats to Ryan. that would be the classy move. maybe it shoulda been closer, but come on. Ryan followed the Vick debacle with much doubt, and led his team to the playoffs. rookie QB doing what Ryan did is more impressive than CJ having a very good rookie yr as a RB.the bottomline is CJ looks like a ######## now. he should keep his mouth shut.

"Better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
does any part of this remind you of pacman?? i give him 2-3 years in the league.
both ridiculous comments... just looking for a reason to bash CJ?
Not nearly as ridiculous as attempting to spin this as "positive". To suggest he was "misguided" or "misunderstood" would be a stretch. "Positive" is simply ridiculous.

maybe if Johnson had a QB like Ryan, Turner wouldnt have been a big deal to Ryan ....

I think the real issue here is that Lendale is contaminating CJ3's perspective.

From statements and actions this year (whining about not getting the ball, "identity" and "theft", the Milli Vanilli interview session, the terrible towel incident, etc.), Lendale has shown himself to be a bad role model to the rookie.

Too bad...hopefully Fisher can bring in a better back next year to replace White and tutur CJ3 more effectively.

So you've never complained when someone else got that promotion, wondered what the girl you like saw in that guy, or complained when something went a different way than you thought it should have? Good for you, but many aren't/weren't that mature at 23.
