Chris Simms signs with Titans (1 Viewer)

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Titans will sign QB Chris Simms. His signing is pending a physical. The Titans also visited with Joey Harrington, Doug Johnson, and Quinn Gray before luring Simms away from a Kansas City visit Tuesday. Simms fills a crucial need as a backup to Kerry Collins with Vince Young's physical -- and possibly mental -- health in question.

How would that be for a career bookend if Simms leaves UT and Vince Young follows him and wins a championship. Then Young does down in Tennessee, Simms follows him and leads Titans to championship.

Highly unlikely that would happen, but I hope VY's fragile psyche can handle them signing a fellow Longhorn QB and all the inevitable comparisons and chatter it will generate.

The word here in Nashville is Simms will be in town tomorrow for a workout, but has not been signed yet.

What's interesting is that he was reportedly in Kansas City to sign there with Croyle out but the Titans wooed him to Nashville from Kansas City. And in turn the Cheifs are now going to sign Ingle Martin from the Titan's practice squad. Wow.

I'm not sure I wouldn't rather have Ingle Martin that knows the system.

Nice F.U. transaction by the Chiefs. ;)I'd probably opt to have promoted Ingle myself than bring in the Fair-Haired Spleenless Wonder, but what do I know?

I would love for simms to beat the pats in the championship game after they made him fly in then sent him home without a tryout

...but his tatoos aren't as cool as Young's. Wait, I forgot, there's nothing cool about rose bushes as tatoos.
Chris Simms has a tattoo of the initials of his favorite former Longhorns teammate on his ankle, current Houston Texans Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shannahan. Not quite a rose bush, but interesting none-the-less.Also, Kyle Shannahan has Chris Simms initials on his own ankle. This isn't a joke, it's the truth.

New team, new playbook, does anyone actually think he'll take the job from Collins? I see Collins as the better fit for the offense.

Simms has a good arm and is a good QB, but the knock on him from what I have seen when he was playing as a Buc is balls knocked down at the line of scrimmage.

I haven't seen much of Simms. Anyone else want to chime in on this?
If we assume that Young is out of the picture, I could see Simms starting by week 9 or so. Collins is an excellent backup QB. Mabye one of the best backups in the league as he's a calming influence and knows what to do. I just don't see him as the long term guy. Even season long. But much of this depends on the rest of the team. If Johnson and White are running wild and the defense is hurting people, they could stick with Collins in a Trent Dilfer type setup. He'd be fine there. I actually like him a good bit.J

I believe the Titans could have countered and kept Martin, but they chose not to.From what I heard, they liked him ok, but think they saw the best he can do in preseason and don't think he has any more upside than that, and feel they have more upside with Simms.
