Chris Wells in 2009: How do you value his rights? (1 Viewer)

How would you value the rights to Chris Wells in a 14 team Dynasty PPR league that can start up to 4 RB? League uses a developmental draft system. What would Wells be worth in terms of this years rookie crop or other young talent? From what I've seen, the kid seems like a big time talent.

I think he could be easily the #1 pick in all rookie drafts in '09 if he declares. Perfect size/speed for the NFL imo.

Ok guys, I need some quick help here. I'm in a 4 team dispersal draft for a 14 team league where we can start 4 RB....and am on the clock! I have selected FWP and Grant with my first two choices. I'm sitting at 3.4 and 4.1 right now. On the board:

Jacobs

TO

Cutler

Developmental 1.1 (Wells)

I'm leaning towards Jacobs and Wells' rights. Am I crazy for passing on TO? Calvin and Marshall just went off the board... plenty of mid tier WR's that I can pick up later.

I'm also pretty sure I could deal the 1.1 developmental for a top 4 rookie pick this year. Quick thoughts?

How large is the league, do you have a legitimate chance to compete, and what is your plan?If it's a large league and you think you can compete - Parker and Grant is a good start, and you plan to contend right now and not care so much about the future, I take TO. If you're not as likely to compete, take 1.1 and Cutler. You can start 4 RBs, but how many at each position do you have to? Is RB scoring far ahead of WR? In a few of my leagues where we can start 4 RBs, it stil rarely makes sense to as good WRs score more than good RBs. What other QBs are in the draft? If there's a large cut off after Cutler and the other 3 teams haven't selected a QB, I'm taking him. In a dynasty league, good QBs are worth drafting and hanging on to.

Wells > all those other guys

He's worth more than a fossilized TO and is WAY better than Jacobs.

Good points. 14 team league. 1ppr for RBs and WRs. 1.5 for TE. Starting requirements: 1QB, 2RB, 2WR/TE, 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DST.

I wasn't sure I could build a winner for this year so went Jacobs and the Developmental Pick. I prob should have looked more at Cutler. One team has already selected Romo. Others available include: Young, Garrard, Jamarcus, Leinhart, Kitna, Quinn....

You ended up with Jacobs with the 3.04, I take it, right? And Wells with the 1.01 developmental pick. I guess that's a separate draft? How exactly does that work? You made the right move though, passing on TO. Since you can start 4 RBs to 2 WRs, Jacobs was a steal and you can find your QB and WRs now, along with your RB4, and will still compete this year. Nice job so far. Good luck.

Yes, the developmental is a separate draft where we can select anyone who will be draft eligible the next year. Each team can hold one person on the Taxi Squad. The following year, you have the option to add him to your roster, hold him on the taxi squad or if you still hold your developmental pick, drop him and pick another. It just happens that the 2008 1.1 Developmental was part of our dispersal draft pool.

Yes, I did pick Jacobs at 3.4.

Thanks for the comments.

Being required to start 2 RBs, you made the right picks IMO. There isn't a huge drop off between Cutler - Young - Garrard, and only 3 teams need QBs, so I think you made the right choice. I would not wait much longer, but this depends on what WRs are available. All I'm saying is that while it often makes sense to wait on QBs in redrafts, don't sleep on them here. If you can walk away with one of the top 3 and either Leinart or Quinn, I'd be quite pleased.
