Christian Woman sentenced to death for her faith (1 Viewer)

You guys may need to start paying more attention to what the conservative wing of Christians in this country have been proposing and fighting for. They come right out and say Freedom of Religion is only for Christians. So get mad at me if you want or take back your religion from the losers hijacking it. Same place Islam finds itself these days actually.
I'm not sure if you pay much attention in the religion threads, but I'm just as hard on that wing as you are. And I'm normally a big fan of your work, but you're way off in here in a gross way.
I don't think I am. But there is one place we agree i shouldn't have brought it up here. My apologies for reacting first and thinking second.
I'm glad you brought it up, because it's important. One of the main reasons that there is not enough worldwide condemnation of what the Islamists are doing is that progressives, both here and around the world, refuse to single out Islam as unilaterally having these issues. They (progressives) insist on moral equivalence, and declaring that all religions are equally at fault. And this is simply not true.
Well again wrong place so we should let it go. As I said this is a horrendous crime and I wish we could do more but not sure we have anything we can do.
I proposed a course of action. Why are you ignoring it?

Because I thought you were being snarky. Are you being for real? What would you like to take from one of the poorest countries on Earth? They are already the 5th hungriest nation on Earth, the government is pretty much one of the most corrupt and 20% of the population already lives on less than 1.25 a day.

Of course I'm not being for real. Sanctions are a joke in most cases.

There's a lot we can do, if we want to. How's this for starters: according to Wikipedia, the United States gives $30 million to Sudan every year. Supposedly that goes to help feed the people, but who knows how much goes to the government there? How about we cut that money off, or give it to Amnesty International instead?

Or how about this radical move: there are hundreds of thousands of slaves in Sudan. SLAVES. In our modern world, today, 2014. How about we land about 50,000 US troops there, go in and free all the slaves? We can seize their oil to pay for it. I'm dead serious about this. Why should this regime be allowed to stay in business?

How does anything you propose keep this woman alive? And do you propose we do the same thing for every oppressive regime in the world? And what is the criteria for that?

If only we had the resources to right all of the world's wrongs.

Don't know if there's anything we can do about this woman. And unfortunately, there's little we can do about every oppressive regime.

But slavery shouldn't be allowed to exist. That we should do something about. Let's be the good guys again.

Maybe we should go after a mid-east country and grab their oil reserves

Define slavery. I'd posit that the people living under Saddam Hussein's Iraq were slaves. How did you feel about our invading Iraq?

I'd posit that large majorities of the people manufacturing cheap crap for Fortune 500 corporations are slaves. How do we feel about capitalism?

I'd posit that they weren't.

Don't start giving me some crap about being slaves to a dictatorship, etc. The slaves in Sudan are REAL SLAVES, as in, chained when they're not working, whipped when they're not working hard enough, killed if they try to escape. Slaves. ####a Kinte slaves. It's intolerable that the world allows this to happen in the 21st century.

It's amazing the intellectual leaps people will take in order to justify the ideology they have chosen
