Christmas Mass from The Vatican (1 Viewer)

Anyone ever watched this? Not Catholic but I've been watching this on Christmas Eve for probably 20 years now. Way back to Pope John Paul II.  I liked him the best. The last two have been weird. It's become a tradition for me sitting by myself in my underwear on Christmas Eve night after everyone else goes to bed.

I was raised Irish Catholic, and though I have drifted away, I always try to catch at least a few minutes of this every year.

It's very fascinating to watch. As I've gotten a little older, I don't watch the entire thing, but I still watch some.

I went to it in the 90s.  All I remember is buying a "I like the Pope, the Pope smokes dope" shirt with John Paul smoking a hand-rolled cigarette and how crazy cold it was.  Waited outside for two hours to get in and said forget it, went and soiled an English chick.  Went back another time to see him speak at St Peter's square, it wasn't that cold that day.

There’s a post in the lifehacks thread about getting the stain out. Club soda and kosher salt, i think.

This is also how I picture you watching Bears games.

I actually like to watch a bit, mainly because I've been to the Vatican many times and love Rome so much.  When I watch, it reminds me of all the great times and fun I've had in the area.  TV does not do the Vatican any justice, it is awe inspiring in person.  I also try to hear them speaking Italian so I can see how far I've come with the language.  We've not seen Francis yet, but have seen JP II and Benedict.  The Vatican houses so much art and history, it also reminds me how great Michelangelo was as a painter and sculpter, as the Pieta' is to the right when you enter.  Then I think of the history of the pieta' when some nut attacked it with a hammer in 1972.  etc. etc.  One thing reminds me of another and so on.
