Chromebook -- Highly recommend (1 Viewer)

Actually you can get the HD for 299, but it is the 2GB version. That sounds tempting.

Looks like 279 is the cheapest one. No HD, 2GB.

299 is 2GB, HD

379 is 4GB and HD

This is pretty much the only complaint I have about my c720 - screen sucks. I am still very happy with it though, especially for the price.

maybe my eyes are teh sucks b/c the screen on my HP14 is just fine so i don't see the HD being worth it. Viewing angles could be better on my HP14 but :shrug:

As for 2 or 4GB, i am definitely looking to go with 4. My experience has been that i can never have too much memory.

not sure if you can get 4gb with no HD, probably not

the HP had a better screen than the c720. the c720 had a newer processor, more RAM and more connectivity options.

Yeah, absolutely no complaints whatsoever on how the c720 runs, very pleased with the speed and battery life. I looked at the 11.6 inch HP when I got mine, but I preferred the better processor, and then the smaller HPs had the issues with the chargers.

 
I had the C720 for like 2 weeks. That screen was abysmal. Not sure how anyone could be pleased with it. It was way too dark.

 
6 year old HP laptop is on its last legs. Runs on Vista. Ooof. Looking at a chromebook or netbook. Word process and powerpoints along with internet surfing and watching netflix. Suggestions?

 
My 4 yr old Samsung laptop won't boot. The only thing keeping me from picking up a Chromebook is I have a work app that only runs on windows. Is there anyway to boot windows onto a Chromebook the same way you can load it onto a macbook?

The screen on the 720 isn't great as others have mentioned. The only real drawback IMO. I still love mine but am tempted by the new HD versions.

 
Acer Chromebook 13 Review

Acer has done what I didn't think was possible — make a Chromebook with an ARM processor in it that I would actually want to use on a regular basis. That's quite a feat considering the heavy workload I expect to put my Chromebook through, and the Acer Chromebook 13 actually does it while providing solid battery life at the same time. Even though it's on the wrong side of 3 lbs and has a subpar screen, the hardware experience as a whole is worthy of praise as well for a laptop that could set you back as little as $279.

I can say that the Acer Chromebook 13 has been pushed up towards the top of the pile when it comes to Chromebooks with larger screens, provided you're okay with the slightly slower processor and heavier weight than some of the competitors out there. If you're going to be bothered by the screen you should probably hold off on buying a Chromebook altogether until something with IPS comes out, but if you're willing to take on the Chromebook 13 knowing its flaws from the start, it's going to be a great choice for a good number of people out there.

Slightly off topic, but close: what is the fastest/most powerful Chromebox I can buy? I'm looking for a desktop setup to leave as my sign-in-to-the-office terminal. It will be dedicated really for Citrix and web browsing only. I also don't want a huge obtrusive thing on my desk--this will be for a den/office, and I'd like something small and sleek and out of the way.

What's my best option here? Buy a Chomebox bundle and then pick up a decent monitor? Which is the best Chromebox bundle?

I thought about looking at a Mac Mini, but really that's way more cost than what I need to spend on this thing.

Are these like sweatshop children who'll do my job for me? I'm fine with that.

 
Extra storage isn't a deal breaker unless you want to store a bunch of media to play when you won't have internet.

I have had and returned two chromebooks for the same reason. The non HD screens were terrible.

In my mind, 4 GB and quality screen are the two necessities. Backlit keyboard would he nice too

 
Decided I want to get both of my kids a Chromebook for Christmas. Has one come out as more "kid friendly" than the others? Both of my kids are experts on my iPad but are branching out wanting to visit more websites and more YouTube. The Chromebook is much cheaper than iPads at this point.

 
So far this thing is pretty sweet (only used for about 30 minutes). Screen is as good or better than a standard desktop monitor. Boot time is ridiculously fast.

Big fan so far.
