No reason to give Holmgren a pass. He managed to lose a Superbowl as an 11 point favorite.  In terms of Packer coaching failures during the Favre/Rodgers run, nothing comes close to XXXII.

Other than the last couple McCarthy seasons, one of which he played with Brett Hundley at QB, I think its hard to pin the lack of Superbowls on the head coaches. One year of Ray Rhodes was probably one too many. Mike Sherman doesn't bring back fond memories, but he won pretty consistently other than that disastrous final year.  I really just think its hard to win Superbowls and especially hard to win 2 or more. There's a long list of great QB's who played long careers and only won 1 or none. The Packers have consistently been there at the end of the season many times.  I think we have to acknowledge that many of the great Packer seasons over the last 25 years have ended because our HOF QB had a bad day.
Not as much giving him a pass (and he should be criticized for that loss)...but just think he was legitimately a great coach.  I don't think McCarthy was...obviously Sherman and Rhodes were not.  LaFleur the jury is still out.

I think that Holmgren's need for more front office power ended what could have been a crazy good run by that team with Favre at the helm.

Packers will cover. I don't think SF has much of a shot in 0 degrees. Last time I remember Kaepernick playing in Chicago in the winter (snowy hell day) and he completely wilted, along with the entire team. Consistent and sunny California boys cannot train for 0 degree days. Ever.
I too don’t think Kaepernick will have a very big game Saturday night

Serious response, professionals are from all over the country so I don’t think there is a ‘team from California cannot handle cold weather’ thing that will have much impact. I do think GB is a better overall team with the much better qb and that will probably be the difference.

I'm locking into GB and the Bucs.  With Tenn as a 3rd option.  I don't like picking nothing but favorites but these seem the right plays to me.

That spread was ludicrous at the time. Denver had a better offense than GB that year, and an equally good defense. That spread was inflated entirely due to Elway's previous Super Bowl history(with lesser teams) and the AFC's recent track record in the Super Bowl. If the 2 teams were taken at face value, Denver would have probably been favored.

I'd actually argue the 2 best teams that season were Denver and Kansas City(who Denver beat in the divisional round)

I would call 2011 the biggest playoff failing. Green Bay had lucked out with New Orleans losing to SF, the Saints were probably the best candidate to give GB trouble, and all GB had to do was not blow it against a Giants team that was lucky to even sneak into the playoffs. A 15-1 team losing to a 9-7 team that actually even had a negative point differential on the season.

My single game best bet would probably be GB -5.5. Hard to see SF on the road beating Rodgers and the Pack.

As far as teasers go Buffalo +7.5 looks interesting, but not sure what to hook it up with. 🏈

Aaron Rodgers' grew up in California.

Jimmy Garoppolo grew up in Illinois.

I think it is important to note about the 2011 Packers is that a) despite going 15-1, their defense was atrocious that season, and b) one of the coach's sons died that week and the whole team was supposedly out of sorts the whole week leading up to the game, and I am a big believer in "you play how your practice," meaning if you had a bad week of practice and/or are unprepared, you are not going to play well.

Looks like you were right.  The California QB couldn't beat the Illinois QB tonight.

I almost never pick an entire slate correctly, but it happened this weekend. Posting for posterity. See picks above from 1/16/22
