CJ hurt, Housh hurt, Henry suspended... (1 Viewer)

Although I believe CJ and Housh will probably both play, who is the WR to have in case one or both don't play?

Any Bengals homers?

Kenny Watson was a WR in college . . .

In seriousness, maybe Utecht will get some unexpected attention in the passing game.

Jerome Simpson :jawdrop:
From what I've read the Bengals don't think he's close to being ready. Marcus Maxwell's probably the WR to monitor (not to be confused with add...yet), but I expect more Utecht than anything until Henry returns. Besides, Housh and Ocho both expect to play week 1.

i agree about Simpson, that was moer wishful thinking. He made a few grabs in their recent preseason game, which gives me reason for optomism. I dont think the Bengals wil have much from a #3 WR until Henry gets back in week 5.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh (hamstring) returned to practice on Monday.

Housh might play a few downs in Cincinnati's exhibition finale. He missed nearly all of camp, but remains a safe bet for low-end WR1 production.

Has there been any talk at all of WR Maurice Purify making the squad? Relegated to the practice squad? Any homers with insight?

I'm a Bengals fan. I am staying far far away from the mess in Cincy. Bottom line is that the oline is awful. If the line cant block, Carson cant throw, receivers cant catch balls. Perry? Maybe. Dude has to prove he can stay healthy. History does not bode well for him. To top it off the D is bad. The Bengals will be playing from behind. A lot.

All of this with their schedule? No thanks. Good luck to those that want to go for it. If you get points per punt, Kyle Larson might be a good flyer.

Both starters will play week 1. These are just 'training camp injuries' or, in TJ's case 'protesting my contract' pains.

How many WR's do teams typically retain on the 53-man roster? Do suspended players count? If so, I count 5 WR's who are almost guaranteed a roster spot (CJ, TJ, Henry, Simpson, and Caldwell). Not a lot of room left on the roster after that. Early in the season, I like Chatman and Holt (in that order) to produce from the third WR spot for Cincinnati if they make the roster.

There's no strong reason to think any of the rookies are ready to contribute much at this point, but Simpson sure looks like a playmaker to me. When/if he grasps the offense, I like his chances of making some noise. This probably doesn't happen until his 2nd or 3rd year though. For now, Cincinnati's probably going to struggle while piling up some decent garbage time points for their fantasy owners.
