CJ officially demands trade (1 Viewer)

The public will side with Cincy right up until they are 0 for life because TJ is getting all the double teams and their defense is worse than last year...Make no mistake, if CJ is determined not to play for the Bengals ever again and is willing to sit to prove it, he holds all the cards. The inept Bengals front office will look even more foolish for not getting something in return for him while they can... especially since they have already let it be known that they've been dealing with this issue internally for almost a year now.
I am not sure what cards CJ is holding. If the Bengals want to be hardnosed about this then there is no way CJ can go to another team without fulfilling his contract with the Bengals. This would require him to play at least 6 games for Bengals in 2008 and 6 games in 2009, correct?
That is correct, he can not play for another NFL team without the Bengals trading him. If this really is about not playing for the Bengals and CJ is absolutely determined to never play for them again, he sits out of the NFL and plays for another league. The Bengals front office looks even more inept because they could have dealt with this a year ago. Everyone loses... CJ just loses less than the Bengals.
You have go to be kidding, right!? His choices would be the Arena League of the CFL. CJ has already made it clear that it wasn't any 'fun' to play quietly last year. How much 'fun' is he going to have with no media coverage in the CFL? I don't see how CJ loses less. Either way, the Bengals don't have a WR this year. If CJ sits out 2 years, he's likely not going to be in much demand at age 32. If they let him sit, they will look anything but inept.
I thought he wasn't a FA until 2012.

I would love to see a team, stick to their guns and make a player sit.
The Bears did exactly that with Briggs and won. He ended up not sitting but didn't get the big [ayday he imagined in FA. Worked out well for the Bears. However, when a team does something like that everyone around here labels that team as cheap.
The reason that worked is because everyone in the world knows that the McCaskies, to use my dad's expression, throw nickels around like manhole covers. There was no bluff in that at all. With Chris Henry officially joining the Thug for Life league, can they afford to not play Chad? I mean, the Bears would have been slightly worse w/o Briggs on the field, but Cincy would be a lot worse. Who would play opposite T-Hous?

I dont think he can play in another league without the Bengals permission. I gotta believe there is some sort of "bodily harm/unnecessary risk" clause that playing football elsewhere could fall under.
right. This was discussed with Pacman's WWE attempt.

You don't think that there will be media coverage wherever CJ goes? Area League already has pretty good media coverage as it is, a team with CJ would have great media coverage. Also, yes, the Bengals will look VERY inept if they let him sit then lose him without getting anything for him. That is the definition of inept, especially since they've know about this for a year and still haven't done anything about it.

How much coverage did Ricky get last year in Canada? Not much. The definition of inept would be to release him and not get anything.

This situation is really odd and I can't remember another player wanting to be traded from a team because he doesn't think they're good enough. I guess Eli to San Diego and TO to Baltimore were somewhat similiar, but in those instances the players never even made it to the respective teams.

Johnson is well paid, has a deal through 2011, and year in and year out, gets as many targets as any other WR in the game.

I don't understand from a team perspective how they could bring him back. He must be hated in the locker room. I know I would be bitter if I had a teamate making more $ than me, with a long term deal and getting playing time, but still wants out because he doesn't think the talent around him is worthy.

What a mess.

but still wants out because he doesn't think the talent around him is worthy.
Do you think he wants out because of his teammates? I think it's more likely that he wants out because of (what he believes is) bad coaching and a bad front office.

Probably a bad choice of words, but it's still a slap in the face to his teammates. It's like if I was the highest paid, most recognized employee at a company that was struggling in the marketplace. I get tired of the company stuggling and announce I want them to trade me to a better company where I still get paid the same and get just as much recognition. When I left work every day, I'd be checking under my car before turning the key.

I can see Dallas looking to put a package deal together here for Chad Johnson and throw that bait out into the water on draft day.

Could a team who is perceived to be very close to making a Super Bowl run (i.e., Dallas) include monetary compensation to help make up for the cap hit? Is it a possibility & would it really help the Bengals any in making a decision like this?

Not sure about throwing money into the deal. But the cap hit Cinci will take is more of a myth than reality. They'll take a hit on the cap, but they'll also save money by not having Johnson's base salary on the cap, and some workout bonuses, etc.
