CINCINNATI — Six days after withstanding everything the bruising Ray Lewis and the rest of the hard-hitting, top-ranked Baltimore Ravens defense could do to him on the Monday Night Football stage, Chad Johnson plans to mix it up with a tougher bunch. He wants to dive into the Dawg Pound."This is the rock 'n' roll city, isn't it?" he was saying before quieting ... and then beaming, as if he realized he'd just drawn single coverage by a rookie defender:"I'm jumping in the Dawg Pound, that'll be fun. That's some real entertainment right there!"If you know the Pound, you know it might be a little more reality show than the Bengals receiver has bargained for.The Browns have some of the NFL's most rabid fans, especially in the Dawg Pound, those east end-zone bleachers where you find high-decibel denizens wearing everything from dog masks and bone-shaped hats to thick, studded collars. And that's just the women. The scene is Halloween on steroids and brew. The new stadium's Pound is a sanitized version of its namesake in old Cleveland Stadium, where, in a 1989 game, ref Tom Dooley made the teams switch sides so the Denver Broncos no longer would get pelted with batteries and other debris.Six years ago at the new stadium, Dawg Pounders and others saluted a bad call by hurling plastic beer bottles — some filled with liquid other than beer — at the Jacksonville Jaguars. Game officials sent both teams to the locker rooms until order was restored."I love the Dawg Pound," Johnson said. "They talk trash. They're good. They let me have it, my momma, the kids. They let it rip."There's this gentleman (John 'Big Dawg' Thompson) who sits in the front row, and every year since my rookie year I go up and talk to him. He's a heavy-set guy who wears a mask. This year I'll let him know, 'I'm gonna jump in there, so if y'all beat up on me, don't hit me too hard.' "Usually Johnson's touchdown celebrations — from giving CPR to the football to Irish jigging like Michael Flatley — are one-man shows.Once, he took the hand of a cheerleader for a sideline marriage proposal, and sometimes he enlists fellow receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh to fetch his props, as was the case Monday with that oversized Hall of Fame jacket he donned."If I don't come out (of the Pound)," Johnson grinned, "T.J. and them better come in and get me."One guy who won't join the rescue is quarterback Carson Palmer, who laughed and shook his head: "I hope he doesn't do it because there are some crazy fans there. They might tear Chad apart ... I hope he makes it back out — in one piece."Johnson waved off concern: "So what, I got pads on ... And besides, they really love me up there."Maybe he needs to stop by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame first and check out that old Everly Brothers song, the one with which Nazareth had such a big hit: "Love Hurts."

CJ is the man. That celebration last week was lame, but I'd love to see him dive in there. I predict the Browns fans would be good sports.

I think everyone who is a football fan should enjoy this guy. He is not only a physical specimen that is a great player, but he works his tail off to be a great player and adds excitement to the game. His celebrations and excitement show he has a great personality and a comic side. I actually thought the HOF coat was a great idea. I still love the DB check list marking off who failed against him. This guy is fun to watch and it is a game where players and fans are entertained and should have fun in doing so.

What I respect about the guy is that none of his stuff is ever mean-spirited. You get the feeling that even the opposing players that he taunts understand it's all in good fun and enjoy the guy.

 I am not a fan of players doing excess celebrations, but CJ is awfully likeable, so it is hard for me to roll my eyes too much at him.

I'm a Steeler fan so I love hating the Bengal’s, but this guys one of my favorite NFL players. He really cares about the sport and his team and at the same time realizes that this is a game and you have to have fun. I get the feeling everyone in the league likes this guys and the more divaish WR’s in the league would do best to try and emulate him.

:goodposting: I have to admit I :lmao: CJ. He's a good sport, and I hope the Browns fans would be too. Of course, the real question is: Will there be any Browns fans there to catch him???

Exactly. They had him mic'd up in the game against the Ravens and he was jawing with Chirs McAllister (I think it was) and Chris was just laughing at him and he said "I love you man".CJ didn't say anything malicious...just stuff like "why ain't you bringing it?"...innocent stuff. He's funny because he's always jawing...even when someone tries to take his head off he still makes light of it.

A look at this weekend's pla by play of CJ's TD:

'Johnson down the sidelines, 30, 25, 15, 10, TOUCHDOWN!'

'There he goes, leaping into the dog pound...... wait..... where'd he go.....'

15 minutes later....

'a ransom note has been delivered to the Bengals sideline requesting the offensive line and a better coach in exhcange for 85.....'

I caught something on the replay of the Bengals/Ravens game last night - and during Rudi's TD late in the game, CJ got kncoked the *@$*! down while blocking. They cut to him on the sideline with a coach, laughing at getting his butt kicked.I respect a guy who can say 'yeah, I got owned on that one.'I hope the Browns fans don't stone him.....

BTW, Does anyone know if he was fined last week for using a prop? Maybe because it was so lame or he has other things to worry about right now, the commish missed it.I didn't hear anything mentioned but......I could have missed it.

The Bengals will be in trouble then, as that's something they don't have! :goodposting:

Lewis isn't better than Crennell?

I like Chad too and it troubles me as a Steelers fan. Why is it that I can't stand TO and his antics but find Chad's antics amusing?

At one point he said: "Y'all beating me up like Roy Jones!" :lmao: :lmao:

While there are a lot of crotchety old guy who hate CJ I agree that it's really hard to dislike the guy. Always smiling... dumb as a brick but has fun with it. Never mean spirited.... talks trash but in such an over the top goofy manner that ya can't help but laugh and shake your head.

Bottom line is : he's good for the NFL.

I don't think you can put TO and CJ in the same class. It's obvious by watching them that one of them is all about himself not caring about what his teammates, coaches, leaguemates, or fans think and the other is all about having fun playing the game he loves and values his job, coaches, teammates, fans, etc. It's okay to come over to the other side a little ;)

how is it obvious?Seems to me the hall of fame stunt was all about Chad, not about his teammates at all and disrespectful to those who make up the Hall's membership.

Edit to add that TO and Chad are clearly not in the same class...TO is a hall of fame lock, while CJ has many years to go.

If you know the Pound, you know it might be a little more reality show than the Bengals receiver has bargained for.

The Browns have some of the NFL's most rabid fans, especially in the Dawg Pound, those east end-zone bleachers where you find high-decibel denizens wearing everything from dog masks and bone-shaped hats to thick, studded collars.

And that's just the women.

The scene is Halloween on steroids and brew. The new stadium's Pound is a sanitized version of its namesake in old Cleveland Stadium, where, in a 1989 game, ref Tom Dooley made the teams switch sides so the Denver Broncos no longer would get pelted with batteries and other debris.

I think this is why people can't help but love CJ. He really is just having fun and I love that he mentions the name of a specific fan and actually talks to him every year and it's not even a Bengal's fan which I think is even better. He's the kind of player that appreciates the passion of the game and it's fans and that's why people love him.

When was the last time CJ flipped off another player or his fans? You dont' hear about CJ missing practices or coming late whenever he feels like...he is one of the first ones there and the last ones to leave. The HOF stunt (while I thought a little lame) was all about having fun and entertaining people. Don't get me wrong...TO has talent and he's a great player, I just think he's a jerk and don't think CJ comes across anything like that.

As a Bengals fan (although even if I wasn't...I would still like CJ b/c I think he is good for the game) at the end of day a win is a win so if doing a riverdance, jumping in the DawgPound, putting on a fake HOF jacket, etc. all motivate him to score more TD's...I don't care if they are all about him or not.

I think Ocho Cinco is hilarious, he definitely should jump into the Dawg Pound. I sat right behind the pound 2 years ago, with a Polamalu jersey, and those guys gave me so much grief, all game- and the Steelers won 41-0! All good natured of course. I think Browns fans are some of the nicest people around, and I'm glad to have good fans to trash talk to. It's a shame they don't feel the same about Steeler fans, and rightfully so. Some drunk jackass ran a Browns fan over after a game that we dominated. That was terrible.

My brother went to a Steelers/Browns game couple of years ago.. he said even though he tried to prepare for it, he couldn't believe the type of culture of people that he was surrounded by. Swearing, fighting, racial epithets, the whole nine, and there was a father who brought his kid to the game who had to witness all of this. He said at some point he wasn't even watching the game anymore but all the incidents in the stands.

Not to get technical, but I don't think he actually mentioned the name, that looks like an editorial add-in.

There's all of these things at a lot of games. In my experience, as long as you don't stoop to these type of insults, and be respectful to the fans in their own house, it's a lot of fun to go up to Cleveland and wave the towel around.

Being in Alabama and not having the Sunday ticket I go to a sports bar every weekend to watch the Bengals and the one I go to just happens to be the home of the "official Brown's Backers of Alabama". They have a huge room with 2 big screen tvs set up just for the Browns games and everyone I have met have been great people...even with me sitting in the middle of them in my Bengals gear during the Bengals/Browns game. They are some of the most loyal but nicest fans I have ever met. I went to a different sports bar down here to watch the Steerlers/Bengals game with a guy I work with who is a Steerlers fan and of course I was again way out numbered with being in Bengals gear and they were downright jerks running their mouth to me the entire time (I'm sure not all Steeler's fans are like that, this is just what I have experienced down here so far). Oh the smile on my face when the Bengals won

Of course, it was most likely a healthy dose of both Browns/Steeler fans as they probably bring the worst out of each other. I'm sure he wasn't naive enough to think it was going to be a 3rd grade play out there, but I don't think he was prepared for someone pointing to the back of their jersey revealing a racial slur to a black guy or someone being clocked as their elderly dad looks on.

John 'Big Dawg' Thompson isn't so BIG anymore. Dude went from 500+ pounds to around 225 IIRC.Anyways, huge CJ fan (and Browns fan), and I have him (along with Palmer) in my big money league. I think I've had CJ three out of the last four years. Looking forward to a high scoring affair this weekend. :goodposting:

My brother went to a Steelers/Browns game couple of years ago.. he said even though he tried to prepare for it, he couldn't believe the type of culture of people that he was surrounded by. Swearing, fighting, racial epithets, the whole nine, and there was a father who brought his kid to the game who had to witness all of this. He said at some point he wasn't even watching the game anymore but all the incidents in the stands.
There's all of these things at a lot of games. In my experience, as long as you don't stoop to these type of insults, and be respectful to the fans in their own house, it's a lot of fun to go up to Cleveland and wave the towel around.
Cleveland Stadium has a Family Section this year.....and they supposedly threw out over 100 people (I think it was at least) combined during the two PRESEASON games trying to clean up alot of what goes on there. I don't know how many were tossed last week. Probably much less.

I like Chad too and it troubles me as a Steelers fan. Why is it that I can't stand TO and his antics but find Chad's antics amusing?

When was the last time CJ flipped off another player or his fans? You dont' hear about CJ missing practices or coming late whenever he feels like...he is one of the first ones there and the last ones to leave. The HOF stunt (while I thought a little lame) was all about having fun and entertaining people. Don't get me wrong...TO has talent and he's a great player, I just think he's a jerk and don't think CJ comes across anything like that.
fair enough.CJs stunts are all aboput CJ though...don't fool yourself.
Let's be clear, TO didn't flip of the DB last week. it was his index finger that was pointing down, watch Inside the NFL for a perfect angle to see it(camera was behind the DB). CJ made an a## out of himself last week, dumb celebration, and I'm sure all the real HOFers were :lmao: He needs to stick to playing ball, I think a lot of people are getting tired of his LOOK AT ME B.S.

My bad...we all know TO has always been a great example of what it means to be a team player. Good thing he will always have fans like you for those of us who have mistakenly characterized him as a tool :(
