CJ Spiller for the rest of the season in PPR (1 Viewer)

Not sure what to expect out of Spiller now that he should be the guy in Buffalo.

My thought is he should slide into the F Jackson slot and get plenty of looks but two problems with that:

A) he is not the complete RB that Jackson is

B) the Bills are not producing on offense like they were at the beginning of the season

With that said I'm thinking if he gets close to the looks that Fred did he should be have a floor of a low #2 RB in PPR with a ceiling of a low #1 RB if it does not become a full blown RBBC.

Nothing to see here. He will split reps with White and Choice (starting next week). I expect a lot of 3-5 point performances.

Seems like a good analysis of the situation, however I expect a few homeruns with his elite speed. I'm looking forward to see what my draft pick of a few yrs ago can do.

CJ was a first round pick, wasn't he? I would think the Bills will give him the majority of looks until the end of the year. If they lose Sunday to the Jets you can pretty much count them out of the playoffs so I don't see a reason why they wouldn't give Spiller enough looks to see what they have in him. Gailey seemed to indicate they were goig to ride him from here on out.

Lots of guys were first round picks. I think the team not using him in the two seasons they have had him speaks louder than anything. In essence, I'm saying I think they already DO have an idea of what they have in him.I think Gailey bringing Choice in is interesting. Choice has played for Gailey before so if Choice has anything close to what he seemed to before the last year, I think he might be the most serviceable. Sometimes a change is needed and it seemed it was always what Choice needed. Washington doesn't really count becasue they can't figure ou what they want to do themselves, much less bring a guy in off the street and relay it to them. I thin we will find out as early as Week 13.

I think CJ is going to get his chance. He was drafted to be a bell cow back. Can he do that? I have my doubts, but if this CJ Spiller train ever kicks into gear and gets moving... this is where it will happen. And stranger things have happened...

Really would have been nice if the top 250+ that was supposedly updated yesterday, would have adjusted. Instead, Fred Jackson is still at 14.

Will be interesting to see what CJ does with the opportunity. I still think it's too early to say he's a bust. It wasn't that long ago Jamaal Charles was in a similar situation.....blew up his 2nd season when he was made the RB1 in KC. At the moment, it's fair to say their only similar in their speed.

I kind of like him...they are going to do everything in their power to see what they have in him and I think he will be a good bet for 16...17...maybe 18 touches per week provided he isn't terrible.

PPR he could be quite useful rest of the way.

Although he's only had limited touches, what we really havent seen from Spiller is the ability to make big plays like he did so often in college. FJax has had plenty of big plays this year. If Spiller can start making 1-2 30+ yard plays a game, I think he's a solid RB2 assuming he gets the touches.

I don't think Jackson was put on the IR until very late in the day. The 250 forward was probably out much earlier.
The 250+ forward didn't show as live on the site until around 9:00 last night, which was a few hours after Jackson was placed on IR.

I think at the end of the day the back to own is White, CJ has had his chance before and couldn't get it done, Choice could not make it with the skins, so I don't expect much with the bills. We see maybe no value in any of them, but personally I going with White to have the most value.

Based on what
Coach Chan Gailey made no mention of Johnny White or Tashard Choice when discussing how he'll replace Jackson, instead talking up the "opportunity" for Spiller. Consider the speedster a good bet for 15-18 touches weekly.

When did CJ have his chance before and couldn't get it done ? His career high in carries for a game is nine. I'm not convinced Spiller will capitalize, but I'm betting they will give him the work if he's at least average carrying the ball. His 3.8 ypc last year and 5.8 ypc this year tells me he can be productive on 15-20 carries.

Even though I own White instead of Spiller (I traded a Jackson/Spiller package when Jackson's injury was still up in the air), I think Spiller is the back to own. I think it's possible that White gets some use, but Spiller will be in on 3rd down situations for sure. Best case scenario is that we get a Battle/McCluster situation with the two. Worst case is that White is just a goal line back (which is what many thought he would be coming into the season).

More confidence from Gailey

There has been speculation in fantasy circles that rookie Johnny White or newly signed Tashard Choice could push Spiller into a situation role, but Gailey has been fully behind the 2010 first-rounder. "You want to let C.J. go in and do what he does best and give him an opportunity to make plays," said Gailey. "He gets his chance now. He's probably looking forward to it and so are we."

The 250+ was updated, showing him as #8 for the remainder of the season in PPR. #12 in Non-PPR.

Seems way too high for me, but I do think that if he meets the potential that he showed last year in the preseason (which caused many people to draft him relatively early), he could be a good late season player.

For selfish reasons, I want Johnny White to take the job though.

That seems optimistic to me as well. Kind of like when Dexter McCluster was in the top 12 ppr after Charles went down. But if Buffalo uses him the same way they did Jackson and he can be 75-80% of what he was doing, where would that rank him? I can see/ hope for top15 ppr.

It's possible he's referring to preseason 2011, when the Bills coaching staff briefly appeared to hand Spiller the starting job. That lasted about 5 seconds.

How did Spiller look today ? I know he had a tough matchup.
I thought he looked good. I am a Spiller owner so I may be a little biased. He still wants to break away to the outside, but I feel like he made some good cuts inside. It was a tough matchup overall, but i think he performed well giver the quick defense they were playing,he got me 10pts in a ppr league, not bad. I like his outlook going forward, the Bills are really using him as a everydown runner, including goaline carries. bright outlook in my opinion.

The biggest plus was his 22 touches. The biggest worry was that they'd given up on him as a featured back and he was treated as one today. He didn't have much to work with but he will have better games with 20+ touches.

Yeah, I watched the whole game just to watch him as I own him in two leagues, and I was left optimistic. I was pleased that he got 19 carries. It was a touch matchup and he didn't have much room to run, but he did have a few good plays. He was in there for a ton of snaps and he didn't make any big mistakes blocking. I think he'll get more passes thrown his way in the future, when he's not needed to block so much. He didn't light the world on fire but if he's an every down back who will get more than 20 touches a game and not come out at the goal line, that's hard to find and certainly worth starting.

I was at the game, and agree that he looked pretty good. Extremely quick to the corner and I thought he hit the holes between the tackle decisively.

All that said, the dude is TINY. I doubt he could stand up to the constant between the tackles pounding over the course of a long stretch.

I would think in the future his best use would be a la Darren Sproles, and leave the heavy lifting to another grinder - whether it be Fred Jackson next year or Johnny White. Which may be where the running game is headed anyway.

ETA: but for this year anyway, I think he's a great option in PPR leagues. Gailey seems committed to giving him a full audition for next year (White got one carry, Choice a few others), and with the playoffs basically out of reach, all the more reason to see what he's got.

I think that may be what the Bills actually think too. Give any RB in the league 20+ touches and you have to be absolutely inept not to have a "decent" stat line in PPR. But, it seems like the Bills ahve always worried that he just simply can't do it over the course of many games. The Sproles role seems ideal for him to me.

A couple of nice runs when he ran well behind his blockers but overall I didn't think he looked to good. Can't break tackles at all and doesn't hit the holes with authority.Fitzpatrick doesn't check-down to him. looked like a couple of opportunities on the last drive but he chose to run it instead.

I was shocked he got so many carries. He had a lot of carries for no gain, but if he keeps getting 22 touches against the rest of his schedule... he'll be a great flex play (or WR3 in ESPN leagues) for the rest of the year.

Just a few years ago Fred Jackson was an afterthought in the fantasy world. During that time "Experts" said Jakcson he was slow, old, had bad foot work, played on a terrible team, no vision, and the list goes on and on. Now that he has had some success last year and then again this year all of the sudden he is a GOD. My point is that 'experts' and the 'so called' experts that go off their GUTTY GUTS simply have no clue as to what will happen in the future. In my opinion, Spiller ran pretty well against the Jets. My biggest concern going into that game was his pass protection, which is what is going to keep him in the game on passing situations, was pretty damn good, even Gailey praised it. With that being said, he does have some work to do, but he ran hard and in the 4th quarter he ran in between the tackles pretty effectively, but the Bills had to pass so they stopped running the ball. I think with TEN he will build off that 4th quarter and will be a good play.

Good post. I think long-term the FJ injury is good for the Bills. Gives them a chance to see Spiller/get him experience so they get a vision of a timeshare for next year.
