How do yall find people to raid for resources? Everyone I come across has a ####ty little village with no gold or elixir.

I know it is in this thread somewhere but hard to search it

Is there a link that shows good wall defenses. My shield had 3 days left but I want to start my defense plan

Or if people want to look and tell me their thoughts, that works also
http://clashofclansbuilder.com/plan/153390

This site has lots of different builds and ideas. The one I linked to is the build I am using currently for my TH4.

Made a mistake upgrading two barracks at the same time - just did a nice raid, now I only have one barracks to build back my troops :(
Useful link. Thanks!

You guys run across any decent youtube vids that show raid strategy for lower level? like TH 4 or 5? I'm kinda struggling to figure out how to set up my army and then to use it to attack properly...

I like Play Clash Of Clans. I think he has some videos for that very thing.

There's nothing quite as satisfying and entertaining in this game than when an enemy hits one of your traps.

Had a guy hit me with 103 level 3 barbs last night. About 20-30 of them got funneled into a couple of my spring traps.

How do you donate? I see how to request (and within seconds I had some donations!), now I need to learn what to do with those troops, and how to reciprocate.
When someone else requests, the chat window will show their name with a Donate button. Click on it, and it brings up a window with your troops on it. Click on the ones you want to give.

To use the troops on defense, if you're offline just leave them in your castle, and if an enemy shows up inside the white radius you see when you click on the building, they leave the castle to fight them.

To use them on offense, when you're actually doing the attack, you'll see the clan shield as one of the options of types of troops you can deploy in the battle. Just click on it and and on the map and they'll spawn at that location.
Thanks! So, the troops on defense, are they one-time use? Like a trap? Or do they stay until I deploy them in a raid?
If they get pulled out in defense, they are gone.
If they get killed on defense, they are gone. If they survive, they stay in the castle for future battles.
I think this is wrong. Just like on attack, if they get used they cannot be used again.
Just confirmed that they can be re-used again if they are not killed in the first defense.

I can confirm too. Two accounts, one my defenders were wiped out and had to be requested again. The other, opponent only sent a few archers which my giants killed off, and I went to request after seeing the replay, and they were still there.

So questions about healers.

I realize air defenses will target them as my only air unit. But will archer towers or wizard towers prioritize them as targets? Or can I, say, drop a mess of archers and 2 healers behind them, and as they approach an archer tower will it shoot at my archers which are closer? Or as soon as the healer is in range will it switch to targeting the healer?

Also, do people usually send 2 healers with their troops, or just 1?

I accidentally pressed the gem button to finish my troop training and lost about 25 gems. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

The question then is, what if half your castle is lost defending and half survive, your castle stays full or you lose all?

I am going from 4 to 5 right now. Keep in mind, I'm just going for loot, but I've found the simplest strategy is to pack 4-6 wall breakers and the rest goblins. I look for bases with 30k gold or 40k total resources and just drop all my gobs around the base with WBs as needed. Easy and relatively mindless.

If I'm trying to actually crush somebody I usually pack:

3-4 WBs

6-8 Giants

a few goblins

the rest archers

If I can get a giant to draw fire from something like a cannon, the archers absolutely dominate stuff. Like 20 little arrows constantly flying at the target. It's pretty awesome.

P.S. I'm only TH3 so I can have at most "65" troops right now I think. Need to upgrade my 2nd camp to level 3.

Someone was saying the upgrades don't pay for themselves on the resources. Maybe not above level 10 or higher, but here's some of the math on upgrading mines/gatherers.

Level 8 mine produces 1900 per hour. Costs 56000 elixirto upgrade to level 9. Is down for 2 days during upgrade. At level 9 it produces 1900+300 per hour.

During those 2 days you are upgrading it doesn't produce so you've lost 1900 * 24 * 2 = 91200 gold it didn't produce.

I know elixir is not gold, but let's just consider the 56000 elixir equivalent to 56000 gold since you have to upgrade elixir gatherers too so it's an equivalent problem. So you lose 91200 in downtime, plus you pay 56000 for upgrade it. That's 147200 resources you're down for the upgrade.

With the extra 300 per hour that the upgrade produces it will take 147200/300 = 490 hours = 20.4 days to break even. So if you're not going to give up in under a month, still worth doing.

Ok, now level 9 to level 10. Level 9 produces 2200 per hour. Costs 84000 to upgrade, and then produces 2200+300 per hour. Upgrade takes 3 days.

The 3 days it is down you don't produce 2200 * 24 * 3 = 158400. Plus the 84000 to upgrade is 242400 that you are down from doing the upgrade. At an upgraded 300 an hour, it will take 242400/300 = 808 hours = 33 days for the upgrade to pay itself off. Again, still worth doing if you'll play longer than a month.

Good info here Greg. Thanks!

I swear I get attacked by the craziest stuff sometimes. A guy hit me with 19 lvl 2 giants, 30 level 3 goblins and a handful of archers and barbs. Craziness.

Got my #### pushed in by the asians overnight. Using shield time to upgrade all my new th5 defense stuff.

If anyone gets a chance take a look at my layout. I stole it from someone else so I'm not looking to trademark it or anything. I posted the worst asskicking attack I got too which might expose some weakness in design.

im th5 also, take a look at my build, its seems to be holding up pretty well

there wasn't much you could do in that attack, I don't think I saw any clan units come out of the castle so be sure to fill up before logging

So, I finally started attacking after my 7 day shield went down. I kind of feel bad that I am taking peoples hard earned stuff

But then I upgrade my walls and am upgrading to level 2 goblins and it makes me feel OK

well my wizard is almost done and I'll have lots more upgrades on the cannons and archers when I come out of shield.

The past few nights I've just gotten marginal attacks that take out my exposed TH, thus giving me a shield for the rest of the night.

This is good but your math assumes they never get looted. When raided, I think you can lose 75% of what is stored in the mines and collectors, vs. 20% in the storage units. I usually find that if I accumulate any decent buildup in my collectors, the first lapse in shield results in those resources getting decimated. When I am on offense, I see these full collectors as bullseyes for my goblins.

This suggests then that maybe archers are good defensive choices (for those of us at low levels, anyway) since they are more likely to avoid getting hit?

http://clashofclansbuilder.com/plan/153390

The biggest problem with this base is the air defense. A few archers and this thing is toast. I use a square defense 4x4. I can't protect everything, but with everything bunched in I can cover an outside ring of my entire base. The biggest flaw I see in a lot of bases that I attack is either they don't have air defense or they place it poorly. I'm at lvl TH4 and usually don't attack bases that aren't giving up 10k + worth of elixir, so balloons are always in my attack bag. I'm sure we all are looking for low hanging fruit, and for me those start with assessing their archer towers and air defense.

By the way, wizards do splash damage to enemy units. So if enemy units come out of a castle, they may be a good choice to drop a couple when the enemy clear the buildings so they'll be the next things targeted. Expensive to build though.

I think the biggest thing you could do to help yourself is pull your town hall outside of your base. Previous post I made:

I'm now a big fan of putting the town hall outside of the base.

It saves space inside walls. You only lose around 1k/1k resources and 6-8 trophies if it's just the TH that you lose. You can make that back up with a quick steam roller of a lower level if you really cared.

Much better off if you get that weak attack that gives you a long shield, than that someone razes your base and gets to your resource storage. Also, I am finding that people who attack the TH and try to take my base out too will often attack the TH with a lot of units, and then reinforce them when they charge my main base. Which means for those battles, I'm effectively choosing the battleground. I can position it to occur on the side my defenses are best, and put a few extra traps in position to be especially effective against people coming from that side.

Granted, better players won't do that. But then better players might just plop 2-3 barbarians on the TH and the move on to a less well defended base, giving me the shield which is really my goal.
Combining the TH outside of my walls, with emptying my resources before logging out, and I'm almost never facing an all out attack on my base. I'll get a shield from someone killing my town hall within an hour or two of logging out.

And to empty resources, I start any upgrades I can, then upgrade walls and traps to deplete gold, cut down trees to deplete elixir, and then fill up my barracks queue with wall breakers (most expensive unit per queue space) to deplete any remaining elixir.

Just be sure to remove the wallbreakers from your queue first thing each time you return before you start handing out troop donations or attacking, to get the elixir refunded.

Oh, and when situating the town hall outside of your base, put it over on the left hand side such that when someone views your base as a potential attacker and is looking at your minerals in the top left, your Town Hall is right there and it'll catch his eye easily, to increase the chances it is noticed by someone who will take it for the easy win and easy shield for you.

Interesting design VA. How long have you been running it? I wonder if that will lead to issues with having no compartments

You've got a good concentration of firepower but I am partial to the compartment design. I almost never see balloons and I want them to have to deal with walls as often as possible to slow them down.

How does the lending of troops work in a clan? Do you give them to the clan or to specific people in the clan? I've run into some clan castles with Giants on defense and those things moved so fast I first thought it was a glitch when they started attacking.

id say 2 days now. they just go after my town hall and havnt gotten inside yet. been attacked maybe 6 times?

Someone specific requests them and then you give. The request gets deleted as soon as it's filled.

Click on your castle and you'll see "request troops." You can put a note in there like "Level 12 and up Archers only, please!!!!11" In clan chat you'll see the notification when someone requests and you just click to donate. Then you can pick which of your already built troops to give.

There's no way there aren't 20-30 inactives on any MMO clan at any time. There has to be a way to filter that.
