Wow... so it told me I'd been online long enough and won't let me reconnect for awhile now. Glad I'd spent most of my resources right before hand at least so I'm not quite as tempting of a target. Though I'd have still used up more if I'd known.

Edit to add: Well, closed the app completely, and it let me back in after about 15 minutes, heh.

Just wait until you get to the point where it takes 6 days to upgrade your town hall.

Pro tip, don't upgrade everything before upgrades like that. Leave a few days work to do while that upgrade completes.

The waiting suxors

I am currently building a level 4 town hall and while I wait for that, I am upgrading to level 2 walls. If I can earn enough money, I will upgrade to level 3 walls.

Have it linked between my S4 and Ipad. $$$

Trying to be smart and have a store builder and a res builder at all times till noob runs out. I'll still be a sitting duck for a few days but with 0 trophies hopefully won't get matched up with anything too bad.

Hooked on this game. I got destroyed by about 40 barbarians and 30 archers. Has me rethinking my giant-centric strategy. I bought the lab and need to accumulate elixir to upgrade troops. Best to start with barbarians?

I am at the point where it takes 24 hours to upgrade stuff. Must resist buying greenies!
Yep. My resource upgrades are taking 2-3 days now. Blah.
Have you lost interest since it takes so long?
No, but I could see it happening at some point.

It's been much more fun with the clan, and I can spend that time waiting on upgrades to go out and attack. While I wish they would hurry up, it doesn't wreck the game (yet).

Should I build my walls around my town hall or around my entire village?
Wall in your defensive structures (mortar, cannons, archer tower), plus your gold and elixir storage. Town Hall is optional.

ETA: If you're in the clan, take a look at some of the other early people, like mine, to see what I'm talking about.

First time in the game that I have had idle builders. Need to work on making sure I have resources for the next upgrade at all times. Got a little happy on wall upgrades last night.

Remapped out my village last night using some tips found on the Googles. Basically TH, storage units, mortar, cannons all inside the best walls. Archers on either side with their walls as well, and then everything else surrounding, where even if not protected, the attackers are going to have to go through them before they even get to the walls. Builder's Huts in each of three corners on the map to maybe draw attackers away and make it tough to get 100 percent against me.

At TH level 4, my defenses are maxed out, but need to upgrade collectors/mines and walls before feeling comfortable upgrading to level 5.

For barracks, I have one up to level 6 for balloons, one at level 5 and a third at level one to just pump out barbarians. I still suck at attacking strategy in the first person, and am hit or miss against multiplayer.

I actually don't mind leaving my town hall out of the walls, ill take a free 16 hour shield. if im going to get attacked while I sleep id rather only be attacked once

Is building into a corner helpful?
Good question. It sounds simple, but I'm guessing since no one does it, it must have some flaws.
Apparently enemies can still be dropped in the grass on the border, and there is no way to prevent it.
That's right. In fact, in can be a negative as they can drop a bomb right next to your wall and leave you with no chance to attach him from a distance as he approaches. I used to have my base there but after watching some replays of attacks on me I realized it was the worst strategy possible.

Then i got some work to do!

Yeah, this is where I am right now. At this point I don't really care about the trophies at all. In fact, I think it's hurting me by giving me much tougher multiplayer matchups so I actually wouldn't mind giving away some of my trophies. I kicked my castle out too. The combination of those let me move a high output mine into my base as well as draw my walls in and fortify some areas.

Of course, since doing that yesterday I've only had 2 attacks: one sending a long soldier to die and one that sent 50 barbarians and 8 dragons after my resources while ignoring my TH (He actually ended up with a pretty small amount for wasting 8 dragons).

Anyone early on upgrade Goblins and then just make huge Goblin armies to steal resources? I'm thinking of going 4 level 1 giants and 40 level 2 Goblins. Even if I lose raids, I would think that I should be able to rack up loot that way.

I got attacked last night by 70 goblins. Lost a bit of loot in my collectors, which were full since I was asleep and all.

Yeah, on these types of Multiplayer games early you have to suppress the urge to run off and go farm the idles or you attract attention from the actives. Just keep your resource count as low as possible by having a long pole and a short pole worker all the time and don't run two long poles unless you know you won't be online for 12+hours.

Ah, that's helpful to know. I built in the corner mainly so people couldn't lure my castle troops away to that side of the map, out of the range of my defenses. I'll move it further out now.

that's what ive been doing. couple giants depending on towers and hordes of upgraded gobs

I've got my mortar with a wall around it. Is that worthwhile? Seems its minimum range is such that it can't hit anyone hitting that wall anyway, so maybe a waste...

If they are hitting the wall they aren't hitting your mortar yet. And hopefully you have other defensive units helping cover it taking out anyone attacking the wall.

true, just wondering if more of a 'plus' shape with my mortar and 4 storages would be better for the inner wall

sorry, what means this? talking about project completion time for your builders right?

The prevailing opinion is that your splash damage defenses are your most critical, so they should always be in the center of your defenses. That includes behind walls.

I've placed my mortar and wizard tower next to my town hall within a wall. Copied the plan off of the Clash of Clans builder website. So far, I really like the defense. Tons of overlap of defenses.

I have about 13 hours left on my level 4 TH upgrade and 8.5 hours on my barracks. I'll be sitting on my hands for a while. The matchups are getting tougher with not a whole lot of pay-off.

One thing I found tricky was building troops evenly so that the next batch of attackers are a balanced group. It's hard to predict how many of each unit you'll spend attacking... and then your next group ends up out of whack and useless.
