Learning the value of raiding for resources while losing the battles. Trophies are for suckers.
explanation?
more trophies = tougher opponents

I usually find a noob that doesn't protect his resources well enough and ill just raid all of his loot while leaving most buildings intact. which is a defeat for me but I take all his monies
ahhhh

ya, I am getting paired with some big dawgs lately. 1063 trophies. Been going on since probably 950.
I think I was in a silver league or something the matchups were way out of my th level, I tanked a few and dropped down to bronze. its like night and day
Hmmmm... hadn't thought of losing on purpose. Can I sacrifice one barb against a low level player and surrender to lose -17 trophies? Or does the loss or trophies correlate with loss of troops?
that works

What level TH do you get goblins on defense? I just got my ### handed to me in what looked like a pretty easy map.

Side note: The guy put his air defense on the outside of his walls and my giants went to it first instead of where I wanted them. Nice little move there.

When I want to lost trophies, I far prefer builing a goblin army, and searching for the villages that have all of their collectors outside. Just have the goblins raid, destroy and pillage the collectors then splt. Guaranteed loss, but you make a bunch in the process.

I did this for my last town hall upgrade ($1.2m). I had nothing left to upgrade with elixir, so I had no use for it. I didn't even bother stealing elixir. Dropped five goblins at each gold mine, then ran.

I can confirm the queuing units in barracks, finish upgrading that type, then sell for a profit.

274k elixir. Loaded up on 62k of wall breakers. They finished upgrade and went up from 1k to 1.5k. Sold them and ended up with 305k.

Running a goblin horde army today and it has been freaking awesome. I go with 1 wallbreaker that usually goes unused, 3-4 giants and the rest goblins.

I just look for someone whose mortar I can get my giants to quickly, unleash them, then as soon as the mortar is gone I have two options:

1) If I think my giants can take out the rest of the defenses near the resources I wait until they're done and then send in a handful of goblins to tear up the collectors and storage.

2) If I think my giants will end up killed off, I immediately flood the area with my goblins. They're so freaking fast that they can typically just about clean out the resources before they're picked off.

Sweet way to gain loot, especially if you don't care if you lose trophies.
This is really the only strat I use now. I currently run 6 breakers, 9 giants, 65 gobbos, and whatever donated troops I get (usually a healer and an archer or barb). I use two destruction spells to take out the mortar (I don't attack towns with more than one mortar or less than 120k of each resource) then release 2 giants to soak damage while I release all 6 wall breakers in a location where I know they'll get through multiple levels of walls. After that it's the clan castle and rest of the giants. Once the giants have a resource rich area cleared of any wizards I drop the gobbos and let them go to town. I rarely lose using this strat but even when I do I end up with tons of resources.

making more raiding outside the walls collectors than going full monty on the rest.
look at the storage units. if they are empty and there are a lot of resources, that means that the person hasn't logged in for some time, and all the resources are in their collectors. You often can grab all the resources with minimal effort.

Buy the builders now. I played for months with 3 then 4 builders. Eventually everything I own takes between 4-14 days to upgrade, so I bought the 5th builder.

Kicking myself that I didnt buy them from day 1 :wall:

Spent about $150 which I thought was a decent trade off for 8months of entertainment.
What is the gem cost of the 5th builder? I know the 3rd was 500 and the 4th is 1000 but is the 5th 1500 or 2000?

I know it is in this thread somewhere but hard to search it

Is there a link that shows good wall defenses. My shield had 3 days left but I want to start my defense plan

Or if people want to look and tell me their thoughts, that works also

ive been using a free app I found in the iTunes store. it shows you builds for every TH level, also has walkthrough videos for all the single player maps. its helped me a bit. that's also where I found the trick about the free elixir

This site has lots of different builds and ideas. The one I linked to is the build I am using currently for my TH4.

Made a mistake upgrading two barracks at the same time - just did a nice raid, now I only have one barracks to build back my troops :(

this looks good. Did you have to get rid of trees and rocks our way was there room to make it happen

You ####ers, I blame you all for this.

So please to explain to a newbie, htf do I upgrade #### that costs 100,000 in something (gold or elixir) when my max is set at 26,000 right now? Build more storage? Gonna take forever

Yep.

This game does require a little patience.

I splurged for the 4th and 5th builder last night. Money well spent if I continue playing for any length of time.

There is an achievement for removing 500 rocks/trees/etc. At what point do they respawn so you can clear more of them?

IF you can constantly bring in your resources from the gatherers, that seems to be a good layout.

But we've been talking about goblin rushes here already, and I think it could be rushed (if the payout was big enough).

Yep. One of those long-term games.

That being said, when I have time to kill, I raid, rebuild, raid, rebuild, raid, rebuild. It's a great way to get excess money and keep your walls upgraded to max levels.

I see a lot of people at TH 6 and 7 with horrible walls. Just a bad strategy for many reasons.

I'm now a big fan of putting the town hall outside of the base.

It saves space inside walls. You only lose around 1k/1k resources and 6-8 trophies if it's just the TH that you lose. You can make that back up with a quick steam roller of a lower level if you really cared.

Much better off if you get that weak attack that gives you a long shield, than that someone razes your base and gets to your resource storage. Also, I am finding that people who attack the TH and try to take my base out too will often attack the TH with a lot of units, and then reinforce them when they charge my main base. Which means for those battles, I'm effectively choosing the battleground. I can position it to occur on the side my defenses are best, and put a few extra traps in position to be especially effective against people coming from that side.

Granted, better players won't do that. But then better players might just plop 2-3 barbarians on the TH and the move on to a less well defended base, giving me the shield which is really my goal.

:goodposting: Exactly what I do.

Very tempted to buy the 4th builder at this point. And just dedicate one for removing trees and upgrading walls.

I have the 4th but it's not worth it just for that, IMO. Those things really don't take any time, just piles of gold. Catch your builders on a break and you can knock all that out in a couple of minutes.

Yep, goblin rushes have got me a few times, if they hit while I'm sleeping or something. I suspect every base has some vulnerability. Always looking for improvements though :)

What's the maximum townhall level? At some point long-time players will stop having things to upgrade and raiding becomes pointless, right?

My son loves this game and plays it on my tablet often.

I just got him his own tablet. Both are Nexus tablets. My tablet is linked to my google account and I've created a gmail address for him.

I have found online that you can link your game from IOS to Android or vice-versa, but I have not found any way to link it from 'my nexus' to his new one (two separate IDs?)??

Does anyone know if this is possible?

I'm not sure of the current max, but every once in a while there are app updates. I haven't looked closely, but I've seen individual units gets the ability to upgrade another level with new abilities, etc. I would think over time, they would up the max TH level as well.

I think you can authorize at most 2 devices at a time. (I think)

I just started playing this yesterday and really had to pry my own fingers off of the phone. It gets addicting quickly. Reminds me a little bit of Dungeon Keeper, which I loved. I'll join the fbgs a little later if there's room. I want to build a nice foundation first before I get involved in any multiplayer stuff.
After your shield wears off you are forced into multiplayer. You should get the clan building so we can send you high level troops
I just found out EA has a mobile Dungeon Keeper game. I may be out of CofC before I even started. Sorry guys.

Couple of noob questions.

My shield wore off but I haven't been attacked yet (any reason why?)

I can't join a clan until I build the castle, correct? do I need to protect my clan castle?

I'm assuming there's no reason to protect the mines (but I do need to protect the storage facilities for the elixir and gold?)

How are you guys progressing so quickly? I don't have near enough to build my castle, etc. Turning gems into gold or speeding up building by buying more gems? Or did you all wait it out and stay patient?

As far as attacking...should I strategically be placing my attackers? I touch the map and they just seem to run to wherever? Should I be deploying them FAST as opposed to waiting strategically? It seems there is strength in numbers and one guy doing one thing get's killed pretty quickly.

Why build additional mines instead of just increasing the level of the existing?

1) no idea

2) correct you need to repair the castle-I wouldn't protect right away

3) no need to protect mines if you're going to mine them 'frequently'. I guard the storage the most of anything.

4) 3 of my archers moonlight in the red district for extra cash-otherwise I just attacked the goblin towns early on and stayed patient. I'm sure there are better ways.

5) I found attacking the goblin towns helped me with strategy on how/where to attack and with whom.

6) output per time maximization. If you'll get more per (unit of time) by upgrading the mine than by adding a 2nd, do it. Eventually you'll max out your mines but for now you want time to work for you as efficiently as possible.

i'm jake in the clan if you want to see how not to set up a town. This is just what I did(above) doesn't mean it's right.

You need to learn how to use the units effectively and place them wisely. It's crucial to winning any battle against a competently built base of similar level to you.

Different units have different paths they follow. Barbarians and archers always attack the nearest building. They'll attack a builder hut and ignore a cannon that is mowing them down, until such time as the cannon is the next closest building.

Giants always go straight after the defensive buildings and ignore everything else while one is left alive on the map. Wall breakers go straight for closed in walls. Balloons (not worth using much) go straight after defensive buildings.

Placement is definitely key. Put your archers in the wrong spot so they are closer to a camp than to the cannon on the other side of a wall, and they shoot the camp and get mowed down. Put them in the right spot and they will attack the cannon. You also will get to the point that you start using units to decoy the enemy. Like drop an archer or barbarian or two to draw fire while your wall breaker makes his run for the wall (they die in one hit otherwise).

You can lose battles because you send in giants after a mortar, but some cannon or air defense was closer to the giants so they detoured to kill it first and the mortar tore them apart. When attacking, first thing you normally do is look for the mortar and any wizard towers since they do area effect damage. Figure out how to get units there to kill the mortar quickly (it has a bigger range than the wizard tower). Which normally means giants since a competent player will have other things to distract barbarians and archers who stop to kill any building that is nearest.

The single player against the goblins is good for learning units. Also there are youtube videos I watched for harder levels I got stuck on, which taught me a lot about distracting mortars with widely spaced units and some other tactics like that.

Been barb rushing people with my noob army all afternoon. I go in looking for 50% ROI on oil and whatever gold comes back is gravy. $$$$$$$

I was reading on Reddit that this game is pretty bad in the "pay to play" area -- moreso than clash of clans and other mobile games. People on reddit are ticked off and these guys gave it a 1/10 for this very issue... http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-05-dungeon-keeper-review

Mostly an elixir -> Gold converter. It takes a long time to get to significant rewards.

I read that the last handful of missions are worth tons of gold. Up until then, not so much.

Some recommend doing the single-player really late in the game since it will be an easy way to get some gold late.
