It's not that complicated. It is a circle projected onto a grid. Do this yourself and you will see a 4-6-8-8-8-8-6-4 pattern if using a radius of 4.
The official wiki appears to have been updated, presumably the 4.5 tile radius was an error. It now says 4 tiles, which is consistent with the FBG observation. 4.5 would yield 3-7-7-9-9-9-7-7-3 when projected onto a grid (try it for yourself).
EQ radius is 4 tiles.
Folks just have to be mindful to place at the BASE of the wall where they want the spell centered. Because of the 3D projection, it is easy to misplace the drop a little north.

Part of the problem with EQ precision is that you want to drop 4 times on the same spot. Which can be hard, particularly on a phone.
If I want to drop five archers in one spot, I hold down my finger on the location until 5 archers come out.
The EQ spell can't be deployed that way. Spells only drop when you lift your finger. So you have to tap 4 times. That creates a lot more room for error.

Well, with some degree of reluctance, ok a lot. I'm formally announcing I am moving on from the fbgs clan network. This isn't because I don't like how things are going or the direction or anything like that. This has been in the works for a month or so. I've worked out a plan with some of the networks to start me on the path to entering some TWCs out there. My heroes are a little light to join the really big ones, so don't expect to see me on twitch any time soon. I want to see what life is like in the really competitive clans out there, without actually having to take a leadership role. That's the primary reason for the move.
I'll still nerd the thread up and wish you all well and maybe pop in from time to time. I offered Shuke to a few people, but got no takers. I probably just let poor shuke rot in global. I'm pretty much done with it and don't have any desire to farm or war with that account anymore.

Top War Clan - Clan that takes war extremely seriously. Recruits, has feeders, youtubes, streams, etc.

If not for war, whats the point of building up your troops? What....to raid and build them up more?
I don't see the allure in THAT. War lets me see what I can really do with the troops I've been leveling up.

The purpose of the game FOR ME, is to max out my base. I do that by raiding villages. I spam 24 loons a hound and 45 minions. Add a freeze and some rages. If I have both heroes up, I get the bonus. Rinse and repeat. This allows me to build my defenses with gold and level my troops with elix. I am actually almost done leveling troops. All I need is 2 drag levels, Archers, Gobs and Barbs. Then I can focus on Valks after I get my DE spells and heroes doneIf not for war, whats the point of building up your troops? What....to raid and build them up more?

Why would I need to test myself in war? When I raid, I look for the bases that will yield the most and be the easiest to take it from

Well, the code is cracked. If you want sick loot start a war with a clan size of 50. Occasionally you will have to try hard to win, but seemingly the farming war clans are filling up the 50/50 ranks. We bumped up to 50 for this war and it really wasn't any shock we got farmers. You don't need to be the losing side anymore. I haven't taken things this far but when war is the end all focus, it stopped being fun to me. When you take creativity out and the clans whole mood is crushed when you lose, there is no fun.

It's hard to say. There is a split consensus on whether to just farm war thru the holiday weekend or not. I leave for vegas late tomorrow so I'm opted out for the moment.

I've always said I hated farm wars - still do. Only reason I tolerate it now is because I'm trying to get to AQ40 and the 2 week beating we just took. Don't see myself playing this game much longer if 50 vs 50 farm wars continue. The Supercell message boards are flooded with people/clans complaining about unfair/lopsided war match ups.
I hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later. Miss the days of fairer match ups where ever winning 2 out of every 3. If it stays the way it is now and doesn't get fixed I'll be done with it all in a few weeks.

Mods got patched, casual players left the game or joined 50 person farming clans or just don't war. People started buying scripted maxed out accounts on peopleme and ebay for pennies on the dollar. Those people congregated in clans together rather than casuals.
Clan matching system is not adapted to these changes. Ergo, boom. Broken game for the moment.

If users are leaving the game in droves you would think Supercell will come out with some sort of solution to keep everyone around for more even match ups in clan wars.

Why do this?
I think most clans that are even semi-serious don't let you use upgrading heroes in war. So people quit doing it, then fall behind, start sucking. Or else you let people upgrade heroes and you get rolled every war for the most part. Both of these are leading to people leaving the war scene. Both of these would require SC to earn less money. Why would they do this? They probably are content to let the money train just die down on it's own.
Also, clan levels and clan xp has had a new effect. It's creating recruiting. People search now by clan level and region and cups. So the best clans with the strongest bases get the strongest global randoms. It used to be sort by cups only. That's a major factor too. Rich are getting richer. Can't really fix that until all clans hit L10.

Actually, the reason for the heroes not being able to be used in war is a technical one. I read a post about it from someone at SC at some point, and they weren't blowing smoke. What they said makes sense, and it is actually a huge undertaking on their part to allow upgrading heroes to be used during war.

How so? Just use the hero at the pre-upgraded level, just like upgrading buildings, etc. What is special about heroes that makes them harder?

I've seen the same explanation. The thinking is that they make a snapshot of your base at the start of war and use it for the war.
Then, when you go to attack it uses the same attacking engine you use to farm. So, to do this would break their farming engine.
I'd say just let them not work for defense of your home base while upgrading and let us use them all the time (like the clan castle), but that would be too simple.

Right--essentially they use the main game engine for farm attacks and for war attacks. The only snapshot that is made of your base is the defensive one used in war.
They would have to develop a way to take an offensive snapshot of your base as well, activate the heroes, and use that one to attack with. It is possible, but it would require using a new attack engine based off of a base snapshot.
