Congrats guys! These nail biters are tense but fun, thanks for the play by play. Next time please include clan message trash talk logs as well...TIA!

 
Did we goblin attack someone?
5 had towers outside of his CC's activation range so even a hog could not pop it. But he had storages in the range. So Fudd was planning to run goblins in to pop CC. Plasma used his attack to scout and see what was in CC and how many gobs it took to get past the towers shooting at them and pull out all the troops. Then ran gobs all over looking for traps after.

Do you guys have a layout for TH8 that you like?

I've heard Culdeus has a nice one, any recommendations? I used the one Greg posted for TH7, and it worked like a charm.

these are all good th8 layouts.. I think for a new TH8 base you may want either tempest or shuriken

Yeah a new TH8 base has very low AA, WIz, and Tesla. From the onset you will be very exposed to any air assault. Early days of TH8 suck. Stay in the 1150-1350 trophy range or sub200. Venture above that and you will just get wrecked all day.

 
L6 giants sort of fell out of favor with this crew. When I started people were all about them. Now I hardly see anyone use them or ask for them.

 
My new focus is to bump up my air defense to level 6. I am at 4 now and can see that the difference in a lot of these battles for war comes down to that one AD that has a sliver of HP just blasting stupid dragons.

Yup. That was my top priority too. It takes forever though. I kept two AD online at all times and it took me about a month to get all three to lvl 6.

I am a day away from having L6 Giants but now I am regretting not researching L6 Balloons instead. When I started the upgrade I was barching with a couple giants but that was such a grind. Thanks to sjslacker's balloonian post and Moroder's replays I have switched to Balloonian and love it. Wish I had started doing this at th8.

Currently I use L5 Balloons and L2 Minions and can 2 star most bases while getting to the storages in Gold II.

Really regret not upgrading my Minions too.

I'm not far from TH9.

I'm going to bypass pekka, golem, valk upgrades and will have all other research max by TH9 completion.

Should have 100% maxed out defense before I even kick off the th9 upgrade which will allow defense of 6mil/6mil/40k or whatever I need for AQ.

Seen as a tank more now

Queen

  • Increased stats overall on lower levels (Base stats) ( > levels 1 to 10 or so)

  • Ability begins to shoot higher damaged flame arrows and regenerates HP
  • Lowered overall HP, but increased overall damage
Seen as a DPS/squishy Hero

Both King and Queen are basically not able to be lured.

The King is more of a tank, and the queen is much more of a DPS/squishy related hero.

You know, I think this update might end up being one that completely breaks existing game balance in ways that make people dislike the game. This is an awful lot of change all at once to have gotten right.

So I wonder how the BK/AQ lure thing works. Obviously they have to go to the attacking units to fight them. But maybe they only go after units in activation range of their altar, so you can't pull them across the map? If they go after any unit in an activation range centered on their current location, you could still lure, just means you have to use a few more barbs to get them there. And it'd be tougher to do to both BK and AQ at same time.

That's impressive VA. Took me 6 months to fully max out TH8 (minus walls) and all my troop upgrades.
I'm about 3.5 months in and have a couple of weeks worth of building upgrades left, but at least a month of troop upgrades. These hog upgrades are the worst.

If we do go +5 and there are a few who don't feel it's a sure thing we can do like normal and work it out individually. But we want the majority of people to not need to swap lower to have a sure thing.

 
What this says to me is TH8 is about to be useless.

May be worth considering an early TH9 jump to get to the AQ if they are going to make it harder to lure and also for more walls to make BK deeper in the base.

After their top 5 bases the rest are really weak.

I'm planning on hitting my +5 nearly immediately, and then reloading asap and cleaning up anything with 1 star. Need to get BK L6 going asap so won't be able to close out if this gets tight, but still will donate dragons and crap.

  1. Heroes can no longer be lured out to some corner of the village and get smashed there. Now, they will become like a defensive building and will only attack troops that step inside their territory; if a troop tries to lure them out of that territory, they will retreat.
  2. Hitpoints and damage for the Queen and hitpoints for the King have been slightly increased at lower levels. However, hero hitpoints and damage have been decreased at higher levels in order to balance heroes on defense and allow for stronger abilities.
  3. Hero Abilities now improve much more significantly with each new ability level so the best way to make your hero stronger when attacking is to increase their ability level!

EDIT2: from the video, the heroes will get back some health when their ability is activated

EDIT3: again from video, Archer Queen's health has been reduced, but her damage has been increased. When her ability is triggered, she is going to fire flame arrows- this is when her damage is the highest.

Rage now has a reduced effect on the heroes

 
Maybe a stupid question, but I really need to redo my war base - is there an easier way to do it than to just grind it out one item at a time on my iphone/ipad?

+ 5 for me (I'm 35) is a sure thing as I'm near the top of our TH7s and my -1 and lower (so 34 to 50) are all definitive 3 star bases.

Edit: to add - a number of the th8 bases 33 and higher (32,31, 30, etc) have pretty weak AA and are doable as well.

This is going to be a really huge blow to the effectiveness of hogriders in war.

Not at present. People are asking for an ability to save current base to war base, but not sure if it'll make it into the next update or not.

 
I see this as a bull#### moneygrab. I think most people use gems to build BK/AQ and builders.

This is going to be seen as a reason to race to drop gems on those items.

 
From watching the video, it seems that the defensive range of the BK and Q have been reduced. But I am speculating on that point.

I also don't think it will wreck anything, it will just make it more challenging. Remember, they will only defend a certain portion of the base. They won't follow your troops all over the rest of the base that they are not defending.

 
I just wanted to throw out that we don't have to do +5 or +10... we can always do like, +8. Most of us here can add and Culdeus can just ask for help in chat to see who his +8 is.

 
I think a ton of us all started right around the Super Bowl like that. Probably within 3 weeks of each other.

I think I can 3 star 12.

Seems this is going to impact Golem armies (GoWiWi or GoWiPe) as heroes (and single target infernos) were the biggest threat to Golems. Will be interesting to see how the metagame adjust to the latest update. Maybe more witches to use skeletons (with the new jump spell?) to swarm heroes.

 
They are doing everything in their power to lessen hog attacks - not good.

Almost all the updates/changes directly affect war pigs

I think it's way too early to tell. So of the previous major updates were bigger I thought.

  • Hog Riders changed to target defense buildings first
  • Introduction of witches
  • Introduction of Heroes
  • Introduction of Hero abilities
Supercell has done a good job of game balance and I like that they try to buff underused units (Valk in this case) and nerf overused units (Golem/Hog Riders this update).

The theme of this update seems to be changing up the current dominate armies, hopefully we'll see more diversity in the armies ppl use in wars.
