I think building the third storage is really useful in minimizing your losses from attacks. If you spread out your storages, it's harder for raiders to get all your resources in one fell swoop. I waited until almost the end of TH8 to do this and wish I did it sooner.

I'll keep on grinding, it's just so frustrating. Feel totally raped when they get 300k+ elexir. And I don't have the power nor resources to revenge either... This kills me... Hope we get some honeypots, coz I need them more than ever. Did my CC upgrade also so the loot is better 700k
When I raid I use:
12 Giants
6 WBs
80gobs
34 archers
1 healer (only use if it's a big loot)
Any take on that? I wish I could go barbs instead of giants, but so far they're not enough.

I find better success with more archers than gobs. You need to straight barch to fill your coffers. The cost could be trophies for awhile. I'd skip boosting collectors. The only time I've ever found that useful is when SC did the 1 gem per day special. Other than that, its a waste of gems to supply your raiders with more loot.
Is your TH outside the walls to allow the trophy hunters to give you shields?

I really think we should be going all out to get 150 this war. I don't think it'll get any easier than this clan.
I think the best strat is for davidlee, aiden and fudd to all attack right away. If they can 3 star the top 6 then the rest of us should easily be able to fill in the last 44. If they miss any stars then we know that can just go back to normal attack mode.

you can no longer rely on gobs like you did at th7. You need to focus on barch and collector raids. I would upgrade barbs, archers, giants, wbs and then gobs.

I'm in the exact same boat you are - new to TH8, grinding it out, except I'm not boosting my elix collectors. I raid with:
4 giants
4 wb
about 40 gobs
about 40 barbs
rest is archers
for me healers and giants just take up too much space and hurt ROI. All I'm going for is 70-100k elixir and a single star, anything else is a bonus.Obviously I bypass anything super wall segmented, but there's a lot of bases with the payoff behind one or two layers of wall and the archers only need the wb to get them past the outer most.
That being said I'm also open to ideas/suggestions from guys more experienced.

Just to help confuse things...I'm new to TH8 as well and i'm finding enough success at sub 200 to keep my builders always busy. I just use tons of gobs and a few giants and wallbreakers as my army. Gem the barracks to make sure you aren't waiting for your army to rebuild. two hour of sub 200 and you should have everything you need for the night to make sure your builders are busy. And I only need to do this every 3rd night because of the long build times.

I think I was earning faster around 1400 trophies than I do sub200 as TH8, though I'm also at the end of TH8 so easier for me to raid plus my defenses are better.
That said I think there's a trade off... if you can raid up that high or even down around 1250, and each time stay online until you have the resources you need and spend it, you're probably going to advance faster.
But if you have to hold onto the resources for awhile, I'd much rather be sub200 and then pop up top 400 trophies when I'm not raiding. I dropped from 1450 to 400 about 4 days ago, as I didn't have anything I could spend resources on except for walls.
Since then, I've done a bunch of revenge attacks against people who hit me before I took the plunge, often giving up shields to do so. I've been attacked 15 times. One person got 25k/6k off my collectors before I woke in the morning. Everyone else has gotten in the 1k/1k or 2k/2k range as they take down my TH. This is despite the attackers having in the 250k-300k of each resource available as loot.
So, sub200 you don't necessarily earn quite as fast, but you also lose it much slower. I'd prefer to be up around 1400 if I was able to actively spend what I was earning. When I'm going over about 25k DE I'd much rather be down low as you don't get lightning attacked very much, while up higher I was losing it as fast as I could earn/mine it.

Sounds good. I don't know if I'll get both attacks in tonight or not, but if not I'll try to do it early enough Monday you guys can move well in advance of the 8pm-ish eastern time start of the next war.

Please make sure to leave someone unfinished for a while that lower levels can profit off of with their 2nd attack.

You make the same profit whether the person has 0, 1, 2, or 3 stars already. The only thing your profit depends on is whether your attack was at least a 1 star, not whether it contributed anything new to the scoreboard.

Whole bunch of us new to th8 around here, good to know as I'll be making the plunge on Tuesday. Keep the dialogue going guys, very helpful.
I've been hanging with the local guys. They decided to go to 2 wars a week so after last Saturday's war was over they immediately hit the button right after. Darn near nobody had elixir enough for a 2nd attack. Tried to tell them to space it out but do they listen?

there are usually no objections to grabbing loot when we are far enough ahead. some people may catch a comment if they go for the loot way too early in the war. if we all stick to +5 and 3 star then we are good to go

I've followed your advise, and it works like a charm.
Basically doing:

65 Barb
65 ARch
65 Gob
Meaning 30k elexir
And I almost always get 100k elexir, sometimes I only use a third of the troops and still get it. Think that formula works great. And none are upgraded to 5* yet either.

Barbs are just beasts. It's amazing that they're even relevant at TH8 let alone dominant.Comparing them at equal spaces (ie, comparing 1 dragon with 20 barbs with 5 wizards for 20 spaces ,etc) Barbs are third in HP (after giants and dragons) and SECOND in damage (after wizards). Crazy. I'm glad we have wars for breaking up the routine of raiding.

Currently at TH7 and have employed this same strategy with a lot of success. Boost my barracks and run with just mostly goblins and wallbreakers. Constant attacking is key often getting like 25K-40K gold and/or elixir per attack while only using about 40 goblins at most. Did this last night for 2 hrs (used 40 crystals to boost my 4 barracks) and made 3 mill in elixir and 3.7 mill in gold. The key I have found is to start winning attacks right before you finish attacking for the night and end at upper 200s or lower 300s in trophies and your less likely to get attacked. I found when I stay below 200 I get attacked multiple times and lose a lot of my winnings as players stop attacking right before 40% and ignore my TH outside of my base.

No looting please, except for our bottom 3 or 4 guys. Basically if you're below TH7, get yourselves some loot as even their #50 is a tough base that you may not get a star on. Bases 9 and 16 have exposed town halls. Everyone else, try to 3 star the remaining bases.

I'm planning on completing #18. I could also potentially handle #10. Pretty confident I can knock out anything in the 30's on down.
We'll see what's left to do when my spells/hogs are done. Given how many high attacks we have left, it's probably best that I play it "safe" (relatively speaking) and take out a lower base, but I'm open to whatever.
