Cleveland Defense -- The defense to own on Sunday? (1 Viewer)

In light of the news of RGIII's injury, what's everyone doing with respects to the Browns' D? They've played extremely well the past 2 games at home, and they have Cousins making his first start there... against a fantastic secondary.

Could Cleveland -- and not Detroit -- be the defense to own tomorrow?

I think this bumps the Cleveland D up several notches.

Sure, Cousins can play, but remember this is his first NFL start to play a whole game. Bound to have some growing pains.

I'm more worried about Shanahan's conservative play calling and game-flow than I am Cousins lighting it up. I held on to the Browns D all week anticipating RG3 possibly being out and with one D single handily pushing many into the next round last weekend, myself included, and the stakes being that much higher this weekend, this is one of the hardest decisions for me all year.

Seahawks, Browns, Jets, Rams. I've got all 4 Ds rostered, also playing keep away from my opponent. :football:

This is why we play the game, boys! Good luck to all mañana.

Don't doubt Cuzzins
This is cute and all, but why not? His two games he's played in this year? Admittedly, I know little to nothing about this cat, but continue to read folks speak of just how good he is. Anyone care to detail? :popcorn:Typo edit.

He is a great leader, I believe 3 year captain in college. Smart player, don't look for him to hit the 50 yard fade, but will hit the 10 yard mismatch often and with accuracy

Got it, thanks. I'm a little gun shy to roll with the Browns assuming Skeletor will cleverly play to Cousins strengths, limiting the upside of the Browns D. But the kid could also be completely overwhelmed, taking a few sacks and throwing a few picks.

Always weary of defenses whose offense....well....suck.

The Browns-D has averaged 9.3 FF PPG with Haden this season, and just 4.0 FF PPG without him(ESPN standard scoring). They're a pretty solid defensive unit with Haden in the lineup, especially going up against Cousins.

Really don't understand the instinct to bump Cleveland. As others have said, Cousins is no fluke. Anybody who saw him last week wouldn't jump to conclusions. Start the CLE DST at your risk. Fools gold in the FF playoffs.

Although I don't like the matchup, I'll be rolling with the Bears instead of picking up the Browns.

I am starting Alfred Morris as I suspect he'll have to have a big day.

This Cleveland homer disagrees. RG3's skill set makes him difficult to defend. Cousins may or may not be a quality NFL qb. The Browns D will be tough to beat by a conventional QB. Plus, he's a rookie. Even 'skins backers have to admit the loss of Griffin knocks the offense down a peg.If RG3 does not play, Browns D is an excellent choice!

I agree and I am a MSU homer - watched Cousins play all the time. He's a quality QB, but I also watched him throw plenty of picks in college. If the Redskins get behind and are forced to throw I am sure we will see a few turnovers. If Morris can run and hold the lead then all bets on the Cleveland D are off. Can Washington win the game without RG3? Cleveland D is on the rise - and they are playing at home. This game is BIG to Cleveland too!

I'm wondering if they will stack the box against Morris. I have him in to play now, but I'm considering putting in Wilson instead. I've got Moreno going as my other RB. Even though Griffin III steals carries from Morris, I think Griffin helps Morris as well. I think the Cleveland D is a good play this week.

And I still think Morris will get his - perhaps 90 yards rushing, 4-5 catches, and a score. I can see Cousins throwing for 210 yards and one score. 20-17 final - who wins?

Perhaps "big day" is a bit much to expect but Morris will move the chains, i think you're probably about right in your prediction. My options are asked green and Reggie bush, so Morris is an easy choice for me.

wouldnt play CLE over MIA DET types - Cousins was lights out in a high pressure situation last week and I think Shanaclan will do a good job of setting him up to succeed

Agreed Sigmund - there are better options. Perhaps some wishful thinking to go along with a Cleveland team and D that appears to be on the rise. Plus, they are playing at home and Cousins is on the road. Lots of very good games this week as I keep my eye on this one too!

I'm tempted to play them over the Jets - who some have ranked high this week. I'm concerned about the skins playing ultra conservative though.

i'm stuck trying to decide whether to start the Browns or the Texans v Colts. Really tough decision, just don't quite trust the Texans to hold Luck down, plus they have a lot of injuries on the defensive side. Browns or Texans...ARGH!

same boat here. rolling with Cleveland as i feel like a int return for td is more likely against cousins than luck. plus it looks like the Texas have gotten complacent the last couple of weeks and their secondary was never their strength to begin with.

I feel the Texans show up this week to win the division at home. Luck will turn the ball over. Not a top 5 play but better than CLE unless your scoring rewards points allowed more than turnovers.

I'm going with the Browns over the Rams today. I think Cousins will start fine, but the limited options he'll be given will result in a more predictable passing offense. Predictable passing offense = turnovers.

I think Ponder is one of the worst QBs in the league, but there will be too much rushing against the Rams for Ponder to have the chance to make more mistakes than Cousins. The Vikes will do everything they can to help AP towards the record.

Rams are pretty average for rushing Defense for yardage, but #4 in Rushing TDs allowed.

WOW! :bag:

On a related note a lot of "draft experts" called out Washington for drafting "yet another" rookie QB when they picked Cousins.
