Cleveland Recommendations (really) (1 Viewer)

Since the Cincinnati thread is such a treasure trove of recommendations, I thought I would ask the ffa about another Ohio city.  Will be heading there in early August and spending 2+ days near the convention center.  I'll be on foot these days. Looking for recommended eats, drinks, and any other points of interest I can get to.  Heading to Indians game on 8/3 (excited) fwiw. TIA

Was there late last year.

If you're in the downtown area, 4th St has some good eats

Mabel's

Micheal Simon's BBQ place. The Pastrami was great. Sides all good.

Butcher and the Brewer

Small plate / tapas style seemed to be the majority of the menu. Food was really good, beer was beer. Highly recommend the Crispy Pork Shank as well as the Mac and Cheese

Micheal Simon's main restaurant,  Lola is right there. Didn't get a chance to eat there (damn wife didn't want to sit the family of 3 at the bar), but everyone that I know that's been there has loved it.

The Tremont Tap House is a great place to grab good beer and food.

Cleveland used to be a lot better when the Flats was happening. I remember driving 16 hours out there with two buddies for NYE I the early 90s. We had tickets for the Pats vs. the Browns playoff game on New Years Day. We went to this place called The Basement on NYE. Awesome place, downstairs was a standard club but upstairs each room was a different room in a house. There was a kitchen, dining room, bedrooms with bunk beds. My two buddies and I tripped on ecstasy that night for like the second time ever and it blew our minds.

Little more than a month bump.  I figured all the Cleveland Steamer chat might inspire some more folks for recommendations.

I'll second the Butcher and the Brewer -- awesome place.  Actually the whole area around it is pretty nice.

Great Lakes Brewing is very good as well and is in the West Side Market area which is kinda cool.  There are other good places to eat/drink in that area.

Osteria di valerio is an excellent Italian restaurant if you're in the mood.

http://www.16-bitbar.com/cleveland   Could always try that for fun.  No idea how old you are, who you will be with, or what you like to do though.

Tons of good places to eat and drink right there in and near downtown Cleveland.  I will put in another vote for Butcher and the Brewer.  Not great for some huge dinner, but excellent to grab some food and craft beer.

Barrio is also awesome.  Excellent tacos and tons of different beers/drinks available.

The Tremont area has some decent places to eat/drink and is usually inhabited by the 30s-40s crowd.

Great Lake Brewery another nice place to eat/drink.

4th Street and Butcher and the Brewer echoes from me.  Lots of little hideaways around Jacobs Field as well (we were there for a game last August).  It's really quite a pretty downtown area.  I always know someone has never been to Cleveland (ditto Pittsburgh) if they diss it as a cesspool, etc.  Enjoy!

Never saw this thread earlier...I can give you rec's on things.  Tell me what you like and I'll let you know where to get the best...

Lola and Mabel's (Michael Symon's places were already mentioned above).  Get a reservation well in advance for Lola.  Someone mentioned the West Side Market also.  If you go there Steve's Gyros is the place you want.

Steak - Red the Steakhouse

Seafood - Blue Pointe Grill

Corned Beef - Slyman's...great corned beef sandwiches the size of your head!

Pizza - meh...honestly best to get away from downtown for better pizza, but Vincenza isn't bad NY style...or head to Edison's Pub in Tremont area

Craft Beers...there are plenty of choices.  Butcher and Brewer, Great Lakes Brewery, Tremont Tap House, Nano Brew, Market Garden Brewery, Portside Distillery and Brewery (rum and beer), many others away from downtown area.

Into water sports?  You can rent kayaks, boats, and jet skis from Great Lakes Watersports located on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River.

There is a great theater district if you are into that sort of thing - Playhouse Square

The Cleveland Museum of Art is awesome, and it is free.

Crawford Auto & Aviation Museum is pretty cool as well.

But not going to get there on foot very conveniently, would need to uber to get to these.  And if you do end up going to this area, make your way over to Little Italy for some more fantastic eats.  Go to Corbo's and grab some cassata cake or lemon ice...hell, grab both.  You won't regret it.  Unfortunately, you are about a week too early for the annual Feast in that neighborhood.

2 nights? Do E 4th non baseball night. @Galileo did the open container law ever get put in place? If so don't worry about getting a reservation anywhere. Put your name in then just wander bar to bar until you have a table. They are all great, but if you're into that sort of thing I recommend the pig head at Greenhouse. If I had to name one thing at one place.

Baseball night pre game at the Clevelander. Go to the bars in Ohio City after. Cheap uber away. I like Town Hall more than Market Garden, but they're both great. If the night gets late be sure to finish at Bar Cento and stuff your face with the duck fat fries. If you're into smaller bars then do Tremont instead of Ohio City. Too many to name, but South Side and Flying Monkey are our favorites.

Slymans is a must. If you can't get there for lunch go before the baseball game.

Oh, and be sure to take advantage of our non 100 degree weather and enjoy some lake breeze runs while you're (hungoverly) here.

Not that I am aware of.  I know City Council passed an ordinance to allow for it last year, but the law only allows for 2 zones/areas to be designated which must be approved through an application process.  I am not sure that any area has actually gone through the approval process.

there is a pretty good chance that cleveland or the surrounding area has a parnera so give that a shot its basically heaven take that to the bank brohan

I'm going to be in Cleveland for 3 days next week as well. Thanks for all the info.

I see that Canton is only a little over an hour away.  Thinking about attending the HoF enshrinement ceremony---big Seahawks/Kenny Easley fan.  Anyone ever go to this?

I grew up less than 30 miles away. Never been there. :bag:

Hit me up if you want to grab a beer.  I thought about heading to Canton too, but not in the cards this trip.

Greenhouse Tavern was okay.  Heading to Tremont tomorrow before the game.  Mabel's for lunch on Friday.  Nice town, but as many crazy homeless folks as Tampa IMO.

Still alive.  Was down in Cleveland Flats area last night for Mrs. O's. conference social.  Interesting area and some good food and beer choices. Off to Tremont.

I assume the east side of the river?  That is such a different area now than in its social scene heyday...all but disappeared and has recently started to re-emerge with new development.

  Nice mix of stuff IMO.  Reminds me a lot of the East Side in Milwaukee

There's quite a few more things planned for the re-development of that area.  It will continue to evolve.  Of course, on the other side of the river is Christie's Cabaret...

Changed my mind this morning.  Heading to Slyman's after a coffee stop.
Old, hole in the wall type deli...Hell of a nice corned beef sandwich.  Nothing else around it though, so know you are going solely for the sandwich.
