Clinton Portis (1 Viewer)

The head coach / offensive coordinator relationship, or lack thereof, is the single biggest limiter to Portis's value.

It's frustrating to watch as a Portis owner.

i just wish they'd come up with a blocking scheme to get him in for those close TDs that are getting stuffed.
He'd been good inside the 5 until today.
Jumbo needs to go.
The problem isn't the jumbo. It's play calling. Once, just once, on 2nd down inside the five yard line I'd like to see this run-first team call play action. Once. The defense doesn't even need to think much about it.

Portis is awesome but I'm going to shop him now right before the deadline. He's gotten a ton of carries lately and I'm worried about a breakdown. And also a road game at minnesota in championship week.

But I enjoy screaming at my TV for them to call play action, while the dog and everyone in the house looks at me like a lunatic :bye:

I thought the same thing at first. But then I looked at it from a different angle. Portis is at least a near-stud RB, on a team that will probably still be in the playoff hunt, playing in a dome that day. Considering what the Packers did to Minnesota yesterday, I wouldn't blink in keeping Portis in my lineup for that week.

First, I usually do not fret TOO much about a championship week matchup - I would be happy just to GET to the the championship and let the chips fall where they may. It is tough to get a good matchup in week 14, 15 AND 16 and I would rather give up some in week 16 than lose my chance to even get there.Second, as noted, we don't know where Minny's defense will be by that time. This team could splinter apart at any time and GB ran the ball very well against them yesterday. Id prefer a better matchup for sure, but this won't have me jump off the portis bandwagon.Second, if he WASNT getting carries everyone would say how Portis is in a RBBC... cake and eat it too much? Personally, I just swung a deal in which I got Musa Smith and Betts so I could focus on starting lineup vs. depth but still have insurance policies... there are literally a handful of RBs that I would want over Portis at this point, especially if I had Betts just in case.

Currently RB6 and only 8 points behind RB5 (McGahee). Being 36 points back of RB4 (Addai), it's improbable he finish in the top 4 without one of them being injured.

Remaining schedule is:

Buffalo

Chicago

@ NY Giants

@ Minnesota

Dallas

Buffalo and Chicago are his best matchups, but obviously the timing of those games could be a problem. (Of course, they could be huge games, too.)

The final three games will be extremely tough.

He's currently on pace for 310-1266-9 and 44-317-0.

TDs have been a little lower than I'd expect on account of three straight games without a TD. We'll see if he can pick that up the rest of the way.

I was planning on starting him this week before the entire Sean Taylor murder, I'm going to keep him in there and think that he'll come out with an inspired game

It's as good of a bet as any. I'm starting to believe that the team will be fired up on Sunday, no one more so than Portis.

Through 12 games:

5th in rushing attempts (238)

8th in rushing yards (920)

6th in rushing TDs (7)

11th in receptions (32)

13th in receiving yards (228)

238, 920 yds, 7 TD

32, 228 rec yds, 0 TD

In my league he ranks 7th among runningbacks in total fantasy points.

01. B. Westbrook 218 FFpts

02. L. Tomlinson 216

03. A. Peterson 195

04. J. Addai 178

05. W. McGahee 161

06. J. Lewis 141

07. C. Portis 138

08. M. Barber 138

09. E. James 130

10. M. Jones-Drew 129

Anybody hear anything on Portis for this week. Will he play? Its a short week and with no practice yesterday he doest have a lot of time to get healthy.

Well, well... after an up and down season, let's tally up the stats and see how our much discussed Redskins runningback did...

Season toals:

325 rushes, 1262 yards, 11 TD's

47 receptions, 389 yards, 0 TD's

1st in the NFL in rushing attempts (325).

6th in the NFL in total rushing yards (1262).

12th in the NFL in average yards per game (78.9).

3rd in the NFL in rushing TD's (11).*

7th in the NFL in total receiving yards (389).**

Now for the negative...

Only posted a 3.9 rushing average.

Led the NFL in fumbles lost among RB's with 5 (career high).

Only had 3 rushes of 20+ yards.

Had 0 rushes of 40+ yards.

* Two players finished with 12 TD's.

** Tied with Ronnie Brown who needed all of 7 games to accomplish the same feat.

In my humble opinion much of the negative can be attributed to the lack of solid offensive line play. Several key players were lost early on. Losing 5 fumbles is a concern though and it could've been 6 if they included the botched handoff with Campbell against the Giants, which really was Portis' fault.

His rushing yards should really only go up next year with a solid/healthy offensive line blocking for him, and the total rushing TD's will likely stay somewhere around 10, he's clearly the team's #1 option at the goalline. Taking all of this into consideration, and of course, it's very premature, he should be a solid top 10 pick with plenty of upside.

I'm keepin' him anyway.

I blame the o-line and the fact that even as a great blocker, Gibbs pulls him out every 3rd down. Losing Campbell also helped alot as defenses finally had to respect the passing game. Campbell is just horrible for Portis.

Portis finished 5th among RBs in total points in my non PPR standard scoring 1 keeper league btw.

01. LaDainian Tomlinson 294 FF Points

02. Brian Westbrook 269

03. Joseph Addai 222

04. Adrian Peterson 222

05. Clinton Portis 211

06. Jamal Lewis 207

07. Marion Barber 187

08. Willis McGahee 174

09. Edgerrin James 172

10. Frank Gore 170
