ARIZONA CARDINALS-Named Todd Haley offensive coordinator.

ST. LOUIS RAMS-Announced the contract of Bob Ligashesky, special teams coach, will not be renewed.

Whisenhunt kept Clancy Pendergast on as defensive coordinator.
is this "firm" or just for the time being?
I don't know Pendergast's contract status, but it's official for 2007. Sounds like Whisenhunt may keep him on a fairly short leash though.Arizona Republic

Pendergast and Whisenhunt had some long meetings before the job was offered.

"I just wanted to find out why the defense had slipped a little bit last year after having been successful the year before," Whisenhunt said.

The Cardinals dropped from eighth in total defense in 2005 to 29th in 2006. "It was not an issue of pointing fingers or blame on anything," Whisenhunt said. "I was very comfortable with what he's done and where we go from there."

Cowboys | Aikman helping influence who is hired in coaching process

Sat, 27 Jan 2007 20:32:09 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports former Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman has had a significant influence on who the team hires as it fills out its coaching staff for the 2007 season. The team appears to be leaning towards San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner to be their new head coach. Turner gave Aikman's Hall of Fame induction speech. The team has already hired offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, whom Aikman cited during his Hall of Fame acceptance speech as his greatest professional confidant.

Favorite before an interview?

Remember when Jerry Jones had a "courtesy" interview with Dennis Green after the news broke he had decided on Bill Parcells; with the belief being it was to circumvent the Rooney Rule?

Has he just done exactly the same thing again? After interviewing 7 candidates for the Cowboys job with Wade Phillips and Norv Turner allegedly the favorites, it was announced yesterday that he will talk to an "eighth" candidate a la Mike Singletary. I honestly don't have a list handy of the 7 candidates Jones spoke to prior to Singletary, were any of them minorities?

Apparenly Todd Bowles fits that bill:Amid some quiet criticism floating from Miami that the Cowboys did not adequately satisfy the "Rooney Rule" by not interviewing a minority candidate, the team is taking no chances. The Cowboys plan to interview Mike Singletary, who is African-American, today. By definition, the Cowboys complied with the "Rooney Rule" when they interviewed secondary coach Todd Bowles last week.-- Fort Worth Star-Telegram

HOUSTON – Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak has named Frank Bush as senior defensive assistant, it was announced today.

Bush comes to Houston from the Arizona Cardinals, where he was the assistant head coach/linebackers last season. Entering his 23rd season in the NFL, Bush got his start with the Houston Oilers working as a college scout from 1987-92. He moved to linebackers coach from 1992-94. He served as linebackers coach from 1995-99, nickel package/secondary coach in 2000 and special teams coach from 2001-03 with the Denver Broncos. During his coaching career, Bush won back-to-back Super Bowls with the Broncos in 1997-98.

Bush, who played linebacker, was selected by the Houston Oilers in the fifth round in 1985. He was named to the all-rookie team after making 99 tackles, three sacks and recovering three fumbles. He suffered a career-ending injury in 1986 before beginning his career as a scout in 1987.

Bush is the third addition to the Texans coaching staff this offseason. On January 17, Mike Sherman was named offensive coordinator and Kyle Shanahan quarterbacks coach. Jethro Franklin was named defensive line coach and Larry Kirksey wide receivers coach, becoming the newest Texans assistants on January 23.

********

From 1/25 but lists the changes for the Texans.

Texans Sherman already listed in post 1, a bunch of changes though I thought maybe this should go in this thread too

OK, updated through today's news.

Looks like the only major vacancies remaining are Wade Phillips' replacement in San Diego [san Diego DC] and Wade Phillips' new defensive right-hand man in Dallas [Dallas DC].

One has to wonder if Phillips is going to further drain the Chargers coaching staff; although I would have to think that if one of the remaining defensive coaches is in line for both gigs, he would choose to stay in San Diego given their personnel.
