Colin Kaepernick Thread and related anthem kneeling issues/news (3 Viewers)

  Sorry but if several in this thread started calling him "Fred" just today, it wouldn't make "Fred" his actual nickname outside a few denizens of this esteemed forum.
It didn't start today.  It appears the nickname "Kappy" was introduced into the FBG forums back in 2012.  The "Kappy" phenomenon seems to have took off from there.

If you Google these exact terms (the quotes are necessary):

"Kappy", "Kaepernick"

... you'll find that "Kappy" has been a popular fan nickname for Colin Kaepernick from just about when he first came to prominence with the 49ers in fall 2012. References to "Kappy" from those first few years are pretty much exclusively from fans and are not meant at all pejoratively.

There are also many references from more recent years. Since 2018-19 or so, "Kappy" is frequently used as a dig, especially in opinion media. There are, however, still plenty of fan pages around that use "Kappy" with affection.

I'm sure he'll be back to graciously admit that he was mistaken.

Please don't call him Kappy again until you can provide that lone Harbaugh link you supposedly heard one time years ago, that no one else has ever used before or since as a Kaepernick nickname.
To be fair, I just did a search of the term and @Da Guruhas been calling him that the entire time, and you’ve been cool with it in the past because you’ve responded to his posts and called him Kappy yourself.

That said, it’s interesting that the usual suspects that follow you and sho around all have an interest in calling him Kappy now that it’s been shown to bother you.

Da Guru: Everything you say and post about Kappy and Reid is unverified.

Squistion: Um, the grievance hearing is verified.

Da Guru: Well, everything but that.

self-own

/selfˈōn/

INFORMAL

verb

past tense: self-owned; past participle: self-owned

unintentionally embarrass oneself or harm one's own interests.

"they don’t have enough awareness to realize they were self-owning"

I don’t see how any team they cares about winning picks up Kappy at this point, just not worth the distraction for a below average player at this point.

All that happens with the trying to dictate how people talk is making them do it more. Kappy is not derogatory. Move on.

Here’s a few clips from yesterday’s workout with @TDLockett12 and his brother Sterling Lockett.

The full workout is available at this link https://youtu.be/PFRq_sonf1E.

We are back at it today wit@Footwork_King2and his guys on ig live later today.

Maybe Kappy can hook on to a roster in USFL to get him some reps prior to NFL camps opening.

people are actually watching his workouts?  :oldunsure:
I saw a clip on FS1 earlier and he looked good on a 10-yard drop.  Of course, how often you do see a QB take the hike from under center and drop back 10 yards before getting set to throw?

I saw a workout video of Jerry Rice and Farve together.  They were wearing copper lined knee and back braces and looked good!  I’m betting they come back before Kap (or Kappy or whatever).

and like a little kid that got in a fix----------------------------report to the mods.

yeah, but that's not EVERYONE.  Pfffft!

Squiz needs to see links from every person in America saying it in order for it to be true (even newborn babies).

This is beyond sad at this point.

He wasn't good when he was in the league.  He isn't better now, and he chose to attach a chain and ball to is ankle when he jumped in the water.

Like a Pearl Harbor ship.  Hey look mom that must have sucked!

Appearances in two NFC Conference Championship games and one Super Bowl notwithstanding.

I'm a 49ers fan, that was 10 years ago.  The bottom line is he presented a unique challenge and had a lot of early success for the 49ers, and it was a great run.  What happened was that NFL defenses adjusted and schemed for him after a period of time and they made adjustments and forced him to beat them with his arm.  The results showed that he couldn't do that.  He worked with Kurt Warner a good bit trying to become a pocket guy and couldn't.  That's pretty much it.

I heard Kappy was spotted at a Raiders game in a Rams jersey, what's up with that?

Who backs up Stafford?

Kappy at this point would only get the minimum vet salary so he could be a cheap backup. 5 years out of the league does not help though.

Should play in the spring USFL or CFL to show he wants to compete if he can play instead of making youtube videos with no defenders.

But again..does he really want to play or just trying to stay in the news cycle?

Heard he doesn't want to be a backup.  Heard that. No link

That has been an unsubstantiated rumor for years and there is no truth to it what I've read.

From 2019:

https://newsone.com/3887236/colin-kaepernick-reportedly-willing-to-be-backup/

Colin Kaepernick Reportedly Willing To Be Backup Player, Yet NFL Team Still Won’t Sign Him

Colin Kaepernick still can’t seem to land a team despite reports that he’s willing to be a backup quarterback.

According to CBS Sports, Kaepernick’s agent has contacted various teams this week in hopes of landing a quarterback position for his client. However, the teams aren’t biting.

ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith says that Kaepernick’s camp has reached out to the Steelers. “Essentially, they’re not interested,” Smith said this week. [...]

According to Smith, Kaepernick didn’t even want to be a starting quarterback. The sports commentator says he spoke with Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, last week. According to Smith, Diab told him that Kaep would be open to a backup job.

“One of the things that Nessa Diab told me last week when she and I met, she said, ‘Colin Kaepernick trains five days a week, every day, all five days, at 5 a.m.,'” Smith said. “‘Working out a minimum of three hours a day, if not longer. He’s ready to go. He wants to be back in the NFL and it doesn’t have to be as a starting quarterback. It could be as a backup quarterback.'”

[...]

If he was good enough to start he would be on a team right now. No team is going to put up with the sideshow bs to have him as a backup.

From Seahawks beat writer Bob Condotta:

Bob Condotta @bcondotta 19m

Carroll says Colin Kaepernick contacted him recently. Carroll says he deserves a second chance but says he doesn't know if that's in Seattle. Just notes that "it's second chance time'' in the NFL.

https://twitter.com/bcondotta/status/1504214290366009344
Carroll is going to have too much drama already with a post Russell Wilson Seahawks team.  Kappy is the last thing he wants.

What sideshow bs?
A dumb question you already know the answer to but I'm bored so I'll play along. The Seahawks sign Kaep to backup Drew Lock. Lock wins the starting job but struggles early in the season. But Pete Carrol thinks his best chance to win is to continue to start Lock. What do you think happens then? And keep in mind Carroll started Wilson as a rookie even though they just spent a fortune on a FA QB. So he's not afraid to to start the guy who he thinks gives him the best chance to win.

And as I was typing this out the last 2 posts get posted.
