Is this guy still a #1 and Brees' go to guy or just another WR in the Saints offense? I have not been able to see either NO game so i'm looking for some insight here. His numbers the first two weeks look very average and I'm starting to get concerned this guy might not be a fantasy #1 WR. If not, I'd like to ship him off to someone who still loves the name and hasn't paid close attention to the production before it's too late.

Colston probably isn't top ten because of how much the Saints spread the ball around, but I think he's a shoe in for top twenty. Which I guess isn't wr 1, I sold him last year around week 10, he has very good games but can hit a rough three game patch every now and again. I would definitely shop him around.

Colston had only four games over twenty fantasy points in ppr leagues last year and only six over fifteen.

My issue with the Saints WR's (and the reason I avoid all of them) is that you never know who will get the ball. At the end of the season, they'll all get their chances, but in any given game, Colston can go 8/160/3 or 1/16/0, and there's no rhyme or reason to it. I'll pass on that kind of production for a steady 6/75/1 (or 0) most any day. You can't take those extra points into the next week with you when you play your next opponent, so I prefer the more steady guys.

It's a tiny bit concerning, but with the way Brees spreads the ball around, it isn't that surprising. But added to the fact that Brees spreads the ball around is the sort of slow start that the NO passing game has gotten off to this year. Averaging less than 250 yards and only 1.5 TDs through the air isn't up to par for NO the last few years (not bad, just not what they've been doing in recent years). As that ramps up a bit, I'd expect Colston to have a few big games mixed in, bringing up his average weekly production.

I had him the last two years, and he'll put up some great games, but he'll also put up too many duds. It drove me nuts, so I made a point to not draft him this year. Really, if you have done your homework, you know what you are getting when you draft him.

This is correct. He is a frustrating player to own. I like him though.

If you have a stud, he's a great WR2 or WR3. If he's your WR1, however, he's going to hurt you even if his end-of-year stats otherwise justify drafting him that way.

How isn't he a WR1? He finished 14th his rookie year in 14 games (top 10 for 16), 8th his second year and 13th last year. Even when he got hurt, his pro-rated stats put him at 13 and that's using 11 total games even though he wasn't 100% healthy obviously in all 11.I would say in his first 4 years, he is a pretty safe WR1. He probably won't be top 5, but I think he is a decent value getting drafted at WR11. Unlike guys like Boldin, Jennings, Marshall, Smith(s), Crabtree and Ocho who all are around his ADP, if Colston is healthy he is a lock to finish next to his ranking. The rest of the guys have a lot more risk than Colston.I think the perception about throwing the ball around is a little off. Colston is the #1 WR for NO, no questions asked. Look who Brees went to late. Henderson, Meachem and Moore can all have big games, but there is no chance in my mind that any of them will exceed Colston for the season. As mentioned above, with Bush out, his targets will go elsewhere and Colston/Pierre are the guys who I think benefit the most. Brees throws to everyone, but he absolutely trusts Colston more than Meachem et al.

Again, I don't get this. He is the 11th WR off the board. If he is your WR1, it is because you went heavy RB the first 2 rounds or have a 1 stud RB and Manning/Rodgers/Brees. Nobody is selecting Colston over AJ, Wayne, CJ, Moss, etc.Personally, I think he is very unfrustrating. He is consistent and for where you draft him, it is nice to get consistent production. He is the #1 WR on a pass heavy offense and you can draft him probably in the early to middle 3rd round.

if you drafted colston expecting 60-100 yd and 1 td per game (AJ-like numbers), well then you were foolish. if you drafted colston to get 50-80 yd and 0.5 TDs per game, then you drafted accordingly. he'll get 1000+ yards and 10 TDs. some games will be huge, some will be mediocre. he's a bottom WR1 and a great WR2. with bush out, dump off passes and screens will go down a bit which means more opportunities for the colston and all the WRs. not too mention, the NO passing game isn't in full stride yet as we are accostumed to brees throwing for 400 yards and 3 TDs every week.

Last year, the Saints averaged 281 passing yards and 2.1 passing TD per game. The year before, they averaged 317 passing yards and 2.1 passing TD per game. This year, after 2 games, they are averaging 245 passing yards and 1.5 passing TD per game. Unless you think their passing totals will stay that low all season, I would not be that concerned about Colston.

That and Minny/SF are two of the better defenses they will face. The Saints offense probably won't average 14 or so points a game. If it weren't for the 2 gimme FGs due to the bad fumbles last night, they would have again only had 14 points on offense.

Just a reminder...

Saints opened with Minnesota (staunch defense) and followed up with 49ers (at home a tough defense). The sledding will get easier and Colston will start to produce. While I originally thought they's lean more heavily on Pierre Thomas this year (with Bush as a change of pace); this won't be possible with Bush injury. They have to start airing it out.

It was a tough game and Brees looked for him alot esp inside the RedZone. He's a great candidate for top 10 WR by year's end, barring injury, esp in PPR leagues.

They will play some easier matchups and not only that the offense will get into stride at some point. They have the panthers twice, cardinals, browns, seahawks, rams, and cowboys coming up plus bush is out til after the bye most likely

Not only these points, but Minny/SF also have AP & Gore and are very effective at eating clock and keeping Brees on the sidelines.
