Colston and Brees owners should be happy with this. Probably a good time to trade away the oft injured receiver now that the rest of his career is pretty much locked up. I would sell in dynasty.

Haven't seen all the terms, but several sources are saying it includes $19mm in guarantees.

Nice save for the Saints who could've used a win.

Not sure what the money is but this is a good fit for both the team and player...
per Schefter:First reported by @JayGlazer, Saints re-signed WR Marques Colston to a five-year deal worth close to $40 million, inc $19 million gtd.

Wow, as a Bills fan, it makes me appreciate the bargain that the Bills got with Stevie Johnson. Very similar deal as Colston got and SJ is younger and hasn't had the injury issues Colston has had.

Not a horrible deal for the Saints I suppose, but a lot will depend on if that "guaranteed" money is in the form of true guarantees or in roster bonuses.

Great for Colston owners in a dynasty. Can't really ask for a better QB or offense for him to be in.
Secondarily, I think it's also good for Graham owners. Without Colston, Graham would have been swarmed even more than he already has - the presence of Colston should free up some pressure.

As a Colston dynasty owner, I am thrilled and relieved.

He essentially missed 3 games last season and still finished as WR#9 in PPR.

In the playoffs he scored 29, 17, and 21 points.

It's hard to imagine he'd be more productive anywhere else. He's the legit #1 receiver on the best passing offense in the league.

Agree with this - he seems to be constantly underrated. Guy puts up solid numbers almost every year but isn't valued as a top WR.

Does this mean Carl Nicks is gone?
Not yet, though there are still bridges to cross. The Cowboys were thought to be his main suitor before getting hit with the cap penalty. Yesterday, Nicks got an offer from the team that (he tweeted) was "respectable".If the Saints and Nicks aren't miles apart, there's a chance he'll stay. Not sure if there's another team out there that will break the bank, though.

I don't quite get the injury issues and Colston. He has had one year in his career where he missed more than 2 games and finished outside the top 20. He has averaged missing 1 game per year in his other 5 years in the league. Even in the 11 game year, if you got buy in FF, he sure helped as he had 42-678-5TDs in his last 8 games. That pace is close to his best year.Personally, I think he is pretty underrated in some cases. Brees spreads the ball around enough that he will have enough "bad" games to not be the top WR in a year, but he is pretty consistent at finishing right around a bottom tier WR1 in ppg. If, per chance, he does actually get more looks with Graham getting more attention, he could end up having a monster year. 25% of his career games have been 90-100 yards and 1+ TD type games.

it's crazy to think that the Saints could end up salvaging this mess and signing Colston, Brees and Nicks to long term deals

The Bucs. Jeff Faine is rumored to have been cut...leaving some interesting holes on the line.

I'll wait to see the specifics but it seems like a reasonable deal for the Saints. I wonder if those last couple of years are back loaded. If so then it's probably a deal worth $8-9M a year for the next 3.

i have to think that meachem is gone. i would have to guess that nicks is too. i still think they will cut MLB vilma, which could free up some cash to keep nicks. arrington is the beneficiary of the colston re-signing. meach leaves, henderson is winding down and moore has a defined role. that leaves arrington to step up and get his chance.

Bucs just got Nicks. 5 yrs, $47.5 million, $31 million guaranteed.Congrats.
:(
I'd rather get a guy like Grubbs at a much lower price. I do think Nicks is one of the best lineman in the NFL, but we can't tie up that much money at the gaurd spot. We take a small step back in talent(assuming Grubbs) and save boatloads of cash, that we can use to sign talent at other positions. Congrats to Nicks, he deserves it.
