Colts RB situation (1 Viewer)

How do you see the RB situation panning out in Indy?

RRBC

Rhodes gets most of the carries?

Addai gets most of the carries?

If one of these RBs would get most of the carries he could be a good value pick.

If I remember correctly, Rhodes had some good games in the past when he filled in for James.

Indy just signed Jonathan Wells.
did not see this. more of a mess. best to stay away.
Ok, let me get this straight. The Colts drafted Addai in the 1st round as the RB of the future and the minute they sign some free agent scrub that nobody else wanted, everyone gets worried? It'll be Rhodes' show until Addai shows us something. Wells will be injury insurance/depth.
Ahh, come on... You're ruining all of the fun around here...

Do we have to bring up Benson again?? Draft position means squat.. Production is everything,.. Obviously they are not happy with their situation and BTW.. The way they have both played I think Wells signing is justified.. You sound liek a person who made the mistake of taking Addai TOO EARLY..

I think adding fuel to the very very small and contained fire is the fact that Addai and Rhodes have done squat all pre-season.

Wells replaces Mungro; nothing more to it.

It's still Rhodes, spelled by Addai; until Addai gets it.

Then it'll be Addai, spelled by Rhodes.

:goodposting: I think we should consider Wells a replacement for Mungro.

My guess is that the Colts brought in Wells for short yartage/goalline situations. Both Addai and Rhodes have not performed very well in these situations so far in the preseason. Wells is 6-1, 250lbs.

It's a fair point, but given the fact they didn't trade for Wells and Mungro just got injured, I think we can safely conclude that it's just depth. Could Wells be a short yardage back? Possibly, but since the Colts haven't utilized one historically, I don't think there's much of a risk there either. The reality is with the loss of Mungro they were paper thin at the RB position.

I remember reading earlier this year that Indy was planning on using Mungro for goal-line situations. Now that he is out for the year and Wells has been signed, this tells me Wells will most likely be used in those short yard/goal-line plays.

You may be right, although that would be a departure for the Colts. If that's the case, Rhodes and Addai have relative little value in TD heavy leagues, but I would guess the starter between the two would log 15-18 carries/game.

Not that pre-season games are a definitive indicator for the season. Both this week, the COlts alternated Addai and Rhodes every series. So while the Colts and Dungi don't have a history of RBBC or GL guy I'm leaning towards RBBC based on this game. I split the stats down the middle.....

wells will get a chance. what he does with that chance is up to him. if he gets out he is not leaving the field. he is a veteran. he came from a pro style offense and performed well. this kid could click with indy. just watch for it.

Wells and Hollings were cut. They only kept 3 RBs - Rhodes, Addai and Kory Chapman. I expect them to get another RB from the other team's cuts soon.
:goodposting: That puts an end to that. Thanks,
Doesn't sound official to me. Anyone seen the official Colts cuts yet?
:goodposting: Profootballtalk is not exactly the most reliable site around.
The cuts are also on colts.scout.com - which is a reliable source for Colts inside information.

Rhodes is a serviceable RB, and he knows the system. With a future HOF QB, the Colts will want to be sure the RB can pick up the blitz.

My guess is that Rhodes will be nothing special, and a minor injury will be the excuse to rest him.

I think by midseason Addai will get his shot and I'm hoping he runs with it- I drafted him in the 9th.

Here's how it will go down:

Rhodes will start, play pretty good and get hurt.

Addai will step in and do nothing, he's a bust, simply cause he sucks.

The Colts knowing they need something will make a trade for a RB, Thomas Jones comes to mind (Don't own TJ).

:pics: Picture taken, take it to the bank.

I see this like the situation in NE, Chicago, Denver, and other places where there is no clear #1.

RBBC until someone starts to stand out or someone gets hurt.

The goal line situations are always a crapshoot If the D's start to key on the FB a team uses for the "and goal" situations, then play action and end arounds are the rule....

Week 3 or 4 and things will start to play out more.
