For all who've been trying to find out Colts trade, I'm reporting the Colts have agreed to a trade for Fins CB Vontae Davis for 2nd rd pick

Jay Glazer ‏@JayGlazer

The colts had been looking for a starting CB and get one in Davis. Terms have been agrees upon but trade still had to become finalized

Interesting trade. Both teams are rebuilding. Davis is only 24 years old. Maybe a Miami homer can fill me in on why this is a good trade for them. Do they have depth at the position?

They seem to like Richard Marshall more than Davis. He's a better tackler and is a bit more physical, but is nowhere near the athlete Davis is. Also, I expect a lot of people would project the Colts 2nd rounder as top-40.If Davis can play like he did 2 years ago, this will be a great deal for Indy. Probowl potential, but just seems like Miami wants to go with a more physical player, which kinda surprises me because that's what Sean Smith gives them on the other side.

Had to be done. He wasn't "getting it" in Miami.

Lots of potential there though. I like it for both sides.

As for the Dolphins, the team is paper thin pretty much top to bottom. Starters remain as they have been this preseason with Smith & Marshall. Noel Caroll will need to step up. And I have no idea what they'll be doing in dime situations.

Continues Miami's strategy of giving away their best players.

Not really sure why they got rid of Marshall, Ocho, and Davis.

They're not exactly stocked with talent.

Not sure how Ocho was one of their best players. He is not a good football player anymore.

Even in his old age I'd take him over the band of jokers they have at WR right now.

It is a complete house cleaning. Marshall and Johnson are guys Philben wanted no part of.....at all. With Davis......they have given up on him. Marshall as outplayed him all summer and Sean Smith is about to emerge as a big physical CB in this league. Nolan Carroll will have to step up big time to be the nickel CB. The Dolphins are going to have a top 3 pick in next years draft. And The Colts will have a high second rounder they gave us.I like the deal. The team is going nowhere this year. They need a massive infusion of young talent to fit our new coaching staffs schemes on both sides of the ball. Vonte just was not fitting in with the regime. We have a start with Tannehill and Miller on offense and Vernon the young future stud on DE to pair up with Wake. It has ben forever since this team has had any relevance. Season tickets are now down to about 30K.....a huge drop from 3 years ago when it exceeded 55K. Steven Ross is a clueless owner...but at least we have a completly new coaching staff and my hope is we get a new front office.Ross wants to win....no doubt. But he is so out of touch with this fan base. He still insists on playing that piece of crap Jimmy Buffet Fin's to the left Fin's to right fight song......it is pure comedy watching everyone in the stadium sit on their hands every time it's played after a score....yet when that famous old and cheesy fight song comes on right before the start of the 4th quarter....the fans all rise, sing and be merry. My kid loves that tune...we all love that tune despite how old and dated it sounds. It's called tradition. And Ross has pissed all over our traditions, lost touch with the great Dolphin alumni and has made a real mess of everything since taking over.GET A CLUE ROSS.Anyway......it will be another in a long line of atrocious Dolphin seasons. Sad thing is I am getting used to it.....now I know what it's like to be a Lions fan.

Love seeing teams trying to get better. Indy has a lot to be excited about.
No they don't. You don't trade great CB's.Vonte is not a great CB...otherwise he would be here. He has had zero off the field issues unlike Marshall who is a ticking time bomb.

I know Marshall is a headcase, but he has been one of the best WRs in the NFL over the past 5 years. I don't see how you let that go for so cheap when the rest of your WR corps consists of guys who would be lucky to make the 53 man roster for most teams in the league. Character is important, but so is winning. If you sacrifice the latter for the former, you aren't going to last long in this business.

Having Marshall around would seem to make things a lot easier for Tannehill, but I digress. This thread isn't about that.

Davis is not on Marshall's level and a 2nd round pick is actually a decent bounty if he wasn't going to be a starter for them.

Yes, because the Fins have shown recently that they definitely know how to build great teams.
They don't. But watching Vonte last season and this pre-season...he has regressed big time. Not a dedicated pro. The Colt's better hope they can turn him around.....or they sent a great high second rounder away for a sack of marbles. The talent is there below the neck. Not above it though.

Fair enough. I just think some guys may see what we see in the Dolphins front office and lose some of their motivation. We'll never know what happens until he hits the field for the Colts. In any case, the Colts were looking at trash opposite Powers, so Davis is an upgrade.

Agreed on all counts.

This isn't fantasy football. WRs are a very small part of a team's success. IMO, he was more of a liability than asset to the team (c'mon, have you ever heard of a guy refusing to catch and batting balls down in practice?! WTF!). They got a good deal in this Davis trade, IMO.
